  1. Thanks for the couple of replies, this one has me stumped plus gas pours through the gap between pin and stand I can se no bolt or circlip holding the dam thing. I want to get the frame powder coated so the brake lever must come off, and the stand needs to be removed to allow the brake lever to be removed. having had bikes for almost 50 years I dont get stumped too often, but this one is bugging me. I think it will have to resort to violence and the largest hammer I can find. Don't you just love it when this sort of thing brings a project to a grinding halt? cheers guys Littlejohn.
  2. Hardly a techie queastion, but I can't remove the centre stand on an old SR250 I bought recently. It should be simple, but perhaps I am missing something ? I have removed the pin holding the brake pedal. I excpected to then be able to knock or push the pin holding the stand out. Even with some heafty wallops it will not budge is there something else that I cant se for the dirt & rust preventing it from coming out? Presently I will take an angle grinder to it and just buy another stand & pin for the rebuild.
  3. It's all very well derestricting Bikes, but remember to inform your insurance company or you will probably find that the insurance company will not pay out if they discover it had been "modified". Not only will they not pay out, you will have been riding without insurance which is a criminal offence. If a Bike is subject to a claim and an insurance assesor checks the Bike the game is up, they specialise in getting out of paying claims, they are not a charity organisation. And if you injure, kill, or leave someone permanently disabled you may fing you are paying for their care for life if you are deemed to be uninsured. Sorry to be a kiljoy, but it's better to inform your insurance company than pay possibly a few million in compensation should it all go badly wrong. The biggest mistake is to think "it can't happen to me".
  4. Having just read back through some of the comments it seems out Colonial friend and German gent are making a meal out of things. It really is not rocket science to make an exhaust, and to try to impress others with wall thickness bla bla is just confusing the average guy who has a rusty hole filled exhaust and needs a replacement. Another reason for giving up making my exhausts is I just don't have the time or patience to put up with Kids spouting rubbish to impress others. I have now been using my exhaust on my Serow for over two years and it works perfectly, and gives the engine more torque than the old original ever did. Enough said I think!!!!!!
  5. I have had several emails from guys asking about my exhausts. Sadly I am not making them anymore. The cost of producing them was too high for the amount of work involved. Sorry to dissapoint, but working for little reward is not worth the time and effort so I am forced to give up making them.
  6. Quite simply the pipes and exhausts have made so far have all fitted the TW without a problem, several happy customers can testify to the results of my work. Check out the pics and video they don't lie neither do the testaments from buyers As TW exhausts are like hens teeth to aquire and overpriced when available, my exhausts most certainly seem to make a sensible cheap replacement. I am sure that if any sold to date had not fitted the purchasers would have told me a long time ago. Although I do not provide a silencer anymore the silencer chosen was an oval shape to make sure it cleared the rear tyre. 50 years as an engineer are my qualifications, plus being a motorcyclist and Enduro rider using a very quick lightweight custom built Serow. To turn out the S shaped double bend makes me £17.00 after materials and postage If I was not retired and didn't mind making the ocasional one there would be a few dissapointed trail wing owners searching for none exsistant exhausts. I am quite content to make the exhausts for Serow only owners, but if a tw owner wants one I am prepered to offer my help. I can even tailor them for extra length and bend if required. (the little kink round the frame is not needed due to the side bend I incorporate during the bending process) this "kink" also is a cause of reducing gas flow and restrictive exhaust gasses. I searched countrywide for a firm that could work with 25mm OD stainless steel pipe, and No one could do it as it's an odd size and requires thousands in tooling costs. so my one man enterprise is probably a lifeline to many tw owners. I hope you comments don't spoil it for would be purchasers as it would be their loss more than mine, I don't do it just for the money, it's just a helpfull pin money hobby to me, not a business. littlejohn.
  7. I am now only makiing the link pipe, that's the S shaped pipe that runs from the header pipe to the exhaust can. Some found the original can a little noisy for road use (it was for competition after all) Many of the pit bike cans can be made to fitt on my pipe, they must be 35mm inside diameter.
  8. I have had Serows for several years, I currently race mine a 1995 4jg model in enduro's/hare and hounds I could not find a decent exhaust anywhere, because no one makes them anymore. so I invested in a pipe bender and set to work designing my own. it was far from easy but as the picture shows the final result is a cracking exhaust that gives the Serow a lot more torque and pulling power. I now make them to order and at a reasonable price. se the picture above. No re-jetting is required for the serow, the engine breathes a lot easier now, the original exhausts restrict the exhaust gases badly to make them quiete but it does them no favours whatsoever. I have has a third in class and regularly come in the top one third of a field of 200 bikes at hare and Hounds events showing up plenty of pukka enduro bikes with twice the horsepower. in fact I think my serow is the smallest HP bike in the Chiltern Hills enduro club five race calendar. This year I am racing a highly modified lighter Serow, it's not road legal but it should raise a few eyebrows, I am hoping for a bit of silverware this year. Nice or what ?, they also fit on the TW 125 and 200 as they share the same Serow exhaust pressing. email me at [email protected] if you are interested.
  9. Xt225 better know as Serows are probably the best "trail Bike" ever built. I mean trail bike, not the modern more enduro MX bikes of today. I have had serows for years, they will go anywhere and go twice as far on a tank of petrol than most modern bikes. I even use mine for enduro's, and rarely am I out of the top third of the field, which for a 58 year old geezer on a 20 hp bike ain't bad. I have even managed a third in class. and of course they are bullet proof both in the engine and chasis, you can't break one. if it was possible I would have done it by now. Often underestimated and certain to wipe the smile of some pukka enduro riders faces.
  10. Telephone Fowlers of Bristol, or look up there website (have your frame number to hand as they usually ask for it) They are about the best firm I have found for Yamaha Parts. Usually next day delivery. Don't bother with ebay, the seals will be sub standard cheapies anyway and fail after a short time. Littlejohn..
  11. I make Yamaha Serow exhausts which will also fit on a TW, The exhausts consist of a stainless steel link pipe to the header pipe and a light weight alloy race can it all weighs in at 2 kilos lighter than the original and gives more torque and throttle responce. I only make them to order as I am retired, and don't want to make a Job out of it. email me if you are interested - [email protected] and they are no where near as expensive as you would think
