  1. Managed to get new plugs but no different. Now convinced there is a blockage in the carb that feeds no.2 cylinder as the plug still looks brand new after running the bike for a few minutes........so I'm in the process of removing the carbs. Need to get some longer allen keys to reach the carb clips so will get them today........airbox is disconnected and I'm about to drain the coolant ( anyone know if this is really necessary or can I put clips on the hoses???).....not a lot of room to work in there!!!! Has anyone who has removed their carbs before got any tips for me....it's a very long time since I worked on bikes...seem to remember the screws and jets are always very tight and used to be afraid of breaking them......is wd40 a good idea?? Any replies welcomed. cheers from a not so sunny Spain!!!!
  2. Thanks Yoda It certainly isn't what I'd call a fat spark........funnily enough a friend came over yesterday and we had another 'go' at it. When it very first starts, it seems to be running on all 4 for a few seconds, then cuts to three...if you hold the revs steady at say 4000 then you can feel the bike trying to pick up and the revs climb and fall, but it won't tick over at all and sounds bloomin awful at low revs. There is fuel in all the float bowls and we tried getting a hand inside the airbox and there is suction from no 2 carb. I'm going to get new plugs (from somewhere...yamaha dealers arn't thick on the ground round here!!) this week and meantime I'll check out the earths as you suggest. Must admit I'm a bit baffled and don't really want to start taking the carbs off unnecessarily.......... Do you know if it's possible (and worth trying) for me to swap the coils over???
  3. Me again......... Well it wasn't the fuel, and it's not the plugs but it's only running on three cylinders.......No.2 isn't getting warm. Anyone got any quick ideas I can try......I seem to be getting a spark (seems weak on all plugs???) and I've swapped plugs over........I realise it could be a blocked jet but they seem a bit awkward to get at!......presume I'd have to remove the whole carb assembly??? Far as I know, the last owner rode it through some VERY heavy rain over here last October...that was the last time it was used...could that give any clues?? Be grateful for any advice..........
  4. Thanks for the advice guys.......bike is being delivered - by transit van!! - on Saturday....meanwhile I'll get some plugs, some clean fresh fuel and maybe an air filter. Can't see there being much wrong with it, the bike is absolutely gorgeous almost like out of the showroom and has a full yamaha service history. Can't beleive I got it at such a good price - hope it has four pistons inside!!!! Another query....anyone recommend an oil...I always use 100% synthetic in my car but not sure if this is suitable with a wet clutch?? Thanks again ps. absolutely piddling down here last two days.....always the same when you lot have sunshine in the UK!!!
  5. Hi again Too late...bought it!!! Bike is like brand new but has been standing 6 months and when started runs like a pig....only runs with choke and won't rev........suspect dirty/stale fuel ???? Any ideas welcomed...thanks
  6. Hi all, new to the forum and back to bikes after a long abscence..........Going to look at a 2003 Fazer in about 3 hours...would love any hints as to what to look out for.....it's one owner (female) 6,000 miles with fsh, has belly pan and few other bits and sounds a bargain at 2,400 euros....any quick replies appreciated. cheers Gerry Moore
