Ive ordered individual carb parts from him and had no probs with compatibility. I have tried to contact him on interchange but all he told me was that he had no way of knowing. Ive found a lot of stuff on ebay and did my homework to find out what interchanges.

78 xs400. What kind of sprocket combo can I use to get my bike up to higher highway speeds and not sacrafice to much of the low end? I would like to get it up to 90 to 100....enough so im able to pass traffic without redlining it. I have stock set up (16/39) and 60 is about all I can squeeze.

Have a 78 xs400. Are there any mods that can be done to make the engine produce more torque/hp? Maybe jet kits? Any links to sites or experiences anybody may have had would be great.

Cant get the bike to start when cold without using starting fluid....when it does start and warms up it'll start all day. Tore apart the carbs and found nothing.

started it up and now i cant get the idle down at all no matter the position of the idle adjustment screw.

78 xs400. Idle hangs at 4000 or so when coming to a stop....slowly falls but still hangs. Any ideas.

78 xs400. I possibly have a starter solenoid/relay prob. With it hooked up I push the the starter button and I get nothing, not even a click. Fuses are good and battery is charged. I have power to the solenoid/relay (blue/wht....red/wht. ) I can cross the main terminals with a screwdriver and the motor turns over. Call me stupid, but would this a defective solenoid/relay?

78 xs400. Is there any online parts companies other than Old Bike Barn or Bike Bandit. Im looking for the air pilot screws for a mikuni bs 34 carbs. Any help would be accepted. Maybe someone on the forum has some parts their not needing. Thanks Doug

I have a 78 xs400. I recently replaced the float, needle and seat, gaskets. I adjusted the floats to the specs(1.25in) and the inlet carb overflows with fuel. Ive tried to adjust the tang on the float but the difference in measurement means no fuel in the bowl or it just overflows. I have no idea why but its pissing me off. It floods the cylinder bad enough that the plug wont fire. I would appreciate any help on this issue. Doug

Can anyone tell me wht the float measurement should for a 78 xs400, and how to measure them. As if there on the bike or off the bike upside down.

78 xs 400. For some reason fuel is accumilating in the carb adapters...I dont know why. Needle and seat appear to be fine, one float had a hole but I soldered it shut. I rebuilt the pet cock. If any one could help.

78 XS400. What does the PRI mean on the petcock and what is the purpose?

I am having a problem with a 78 xs400 with getting my chain tightened... When the chain is on and i rotate the wheel, there is a tight spot, meaning rotating the wheel the chain is loose most of the time then at a certain point the chain stiffens up then loosens again. I cant properly tighten it cause if I do it pulls the swing arm into the muffler.. I dont believe its the sprocket but I dont know what it is. I think maybe the chain is twisted or bent....any help would be appreciated.

Does anybody know where I can get the rubbers and collar for the turn signals for a 78 Yamaha XS400. other than yamaha.
