For the Vintage Yamahas

  1. Started by bralkan,

Anyone worked on these? They seem pretty simple. A neighbor has one pretty cheap and I may pick it up to have a 2nd; maybe get the girlfriend try it out. But, the guy says the spark isn't getting any current and is probably a wiring thing. Are coils for these pretty easy to find? I am going to look around in a minute but I thought I would go ahead and through a post up... I did some searches and most of the posts had dead ends.... http://images.craigslist.org/0101060102050...1b61a00ff75.jpg Looks like a dt100? I feel an addiction coming on....

I think I figured out why my bike was running ok then not running at all. The left side is loosing spark. I tried to pull the points cover but the rear screw has some kind of plug in it? This is on a 1980 XS400. My other bike a 1979 has a screw in each hole. I tried picking around it to pop it out but it doesn't move. Its not rubber either. I guess I could try drilling a small hole and getting a screw in it to pop it out. Any ideas?

Is there anything available for lowering an 81 xs400? A while ago there was a kit we used for old Hondas that relocated the shock mount further rearward on the swingarm. Does this exist for the yamahas?\

I want the widest, roundest tire I can get for the back, even If it takes a little grinding to make it fit I'm not afraid. =) most recent pictures here.. http://www.driven2modify.com/showpost.php?...mp;postcount=84 you can read my entire buildup here.. http://www.driven2modify.com/showthread.php?t=12043 thanks in advance!

Having just acquired a 1989 xj900f I will be needing a new rear tyre fairly soon. Now it's a 120/90 18r & will be mainly used in the dry but not totally. Any reccomendations for a the make of tyre I should go for? Also the front while probably 50% is a 110/90 18 not the reccomended 100/90, should I change that at the same time to a matching tyre to the rear? Any Thoughts? Finally, how do I change my flag from British to English?

  15. I had to replace my voltage regulator in my 1977 XS360 and I know that Bralkan just replaced his. Is it just a coincidence that others also have charging problems? Now I realize these bikes are 25 to 35 years old, so maintenance and replacement is required, but is the VR as common a replacement for the XS as it is for the same year Suzuki GS series? The 70's and early 80's GS Suzuki is famous for its regulator/rectifier failures. History has proven the XS360/400 to be pretty good bikes but is it possible the regulator is the one common failure on these bikes?

  16. Does anyone have a part number and source to get shorter cables for an 81 xs400 special? I put drag bars on it, and now have way too much brake line (needed replacing anyway) and throttle cable. Thanks

  18. Started by k91,

So I'm tearing down the carbs on my 79 and I notice the tips of the idle mixture screws stayed in the carb when I removed them. Well that explains why they never made any difference when it was running but now what do I do? I tried pressing on the tips from the inside to push them back out but that didn't help. Any ideas or am I stuck finding another set of carbs? Maybe I could just drill them out but I have no idea what size the hole is in the carb or if I have a bit that small.
