Hey Guys G’day my names Matt and I own a 2001 Yamaha YZ250F. I purchased the bike a few months ago at a reasonable price. Ever since I’ve owned it I have only been able to kick start it a hand full of times. I have taken it to the Yamaha dealer to get a service which included oil/spark etc etc and got the shims/valves checked. I was told everything was fine. The dealer even showed me how to start the bike. "Bring the piston to TDC with the kick starter at a hard point. Pull the de-comp lever and press down on the kick start an inch or two. Bring back up and a full kick through." I had a mate try and he could get it to go. I then could get it to go a few times …

hey guys how are you i was just trying to find out how to redard the timeing to spec 1.8mmBTDC for a dt175E/MX. i under stand how to line the piston i can do that easy with a strait edge across the top of the cylinder with the head removed and a feeler gauge but what els is involved? when i did the crank seal on the left i lined the magneto base plate up with the line marks on the uper right hand side and thought nothing more of it until i came across some thing i read in this forum recently, spinning the base plate is this how you alter the timeing if so is it just a case of lineing up the piston to spec then alinging the base plate up with the markers am on the ri…

Have just fitted a full Dep system to my 07 125 DTR. Have done a plug chop and found the plug to be a very light grey. Has anybody had to upjet their DTR after fitting a Dep system ?

i have a 1975 dt 250 motor stuck in a 1978 yz frame & was wanting to do away with the points ignition & put in a pointless cdi unit anybody have any info on what cdi unit out of another yamaha i could use don't want the internal rotor want to stay with the external rotor since this is going to be just a play bike & don't care about a lighting circuit either

I just started messing with a 77 XT 500. It kick starts and runs well although it seems to be running a bit rich so I will check out the carburetor. I've purchased new tubes and tires, will soon check the brake shoes and drums and may have found an OEM shop manual. In addition to my helmet, boots, gloves and other standard safety equipment, I plan to use a GPS and topographic maps to ride the XT on local rural roads near a river. Any tips mechanical or otherwise to help get me started would be greatly appreciated? Many thanks, XTOwner

Hi there. I have myself an 1995 XT350 which has been running fine up until i changed the exhaust for an old one i had lying around, started the bike up and it dident sound at all right, as if it was missing? then went for a ride and for upto 4k revs fine then from 4k onwards it splutters really bad and wont really go anymore, its alomost like its going then not sort of start stop really not sounding good, i then put the standerd pipe back on to find the problem was still there? After hours of playing with various bits, cleaning carb, checking wires etc, it still dident work, i then tryed one last time and it started working again. I decided to try the other pipe aga…

hi i am new to bikes and have got a 2005 dt125re, and would just like to know how do you jack the bike up to work on instead of using the side stand, do you just use bricks or is it best to buy a proper stand/paddock stand and if so where can i get one?

It has been gettin worse all the time but over a couple of years. I took er out this morning and the brake lever will go all the way to the grip and really doesn't put much pressure on the brake. Now I really haven't looked into it to deeply but the reservoir if full. It may have air in the line I haven't bled it yet. Is there a rebuild kit for the brake lever, plunger or master cylinder? What do ya think it the most likely cause of the weak brake? thanks for the help

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew where i could find an alternative rear fender? I have the 1997 model and the rear fender swoops down, i wanted more of an enduro look for the bike, a slightly upswept fender like the Yz. Any ideas where i can find one cheers.

Looking to buy a 125 and I've seen a: DT 125R, year 2000 X plate, average condition, original blue bodywork, offroad tyres in good condition, good for about 65-70 mph, 11800 miles. Theres no service history or V5 doc or anything like that. And no idea of number of previous owners. The guy is geting an MOT for a year but no tax. What do you think this bike is worth cash in hand? just wondering if anyone studied (and made a drawing) of the wiring under the flywheel - one thing i found while looking it over is one wire from the source coil goes to the condenser, and the other one is soldered to a jumper wire to the lighting coil,- is this correct? i need some basic theory -one end of the source coil is grounded and the other end goes to the condenser, ? all 4 of the leads coming out of the lighting coil (which i wont need) are continuous to ground- why is the source coil hooked to the lighting coil? (with the short heat insulated jumper)

Hi, my dtr 2001 gets to 60mph 7500rpm and then is a struggle to get the revs any higher or more speed. I have had 75mph out the bike down hill with the wind behind me, but am thinking that the reed switch in the speedo is limiting the revs anything past 60 ??? Any Help ? 2stroke ray

hi, i just got my tw 125 and was sorely dissapointed when it only did 50mph lol so im on a mission to help my 125 be a real 125 or at least do what its capable of lol firstly iridium spark plug? good idea? or stick to standard ngk dr8ea... i want to know if you can do anything with the tw exhaust? can i remove the baffle? i want to add a filter to the crank case breather and a k and n style cone filter to the carb... will i need to rejet or will get away with just raising the needle up one notch? i dont want or expext 100mph!!! LOL. i would just like it to go 60 easily and not loose all its power on the slightest hill... after all this is a 125 and can…
