I’m interested to know if anyone has experience of completely striping the DT engine and rebuilding it? What parts are needed and where they can be sourced? The engine (when I bought the bike) seemed to be running okay (rode home approx 15 miles with no problems) and I was told it had new main bearings and a re-bore only a couple of thousand miles ago. The bike has approx 24,000 miles on it and has been used on and off for the last 19 years. Should I leave it alone if it’s running okay or would there be some benefit in a full rebuild? From what I can gather there’s unlikely to be much (if any) performance increase but would there be some possible reliability benefi…

Can someone tell me if I should see a constant flow of 2 stroke oil from the oil pump to the carb, ie should the small clear plastic pipe be full of oil all when the bike is running ??? Having just got the bike up and going I’ve noticed the oil pipe appears to be sending oil in small slugs with lots of air pockets between oil delivery. I’m not exactly sure how the oil is fed, the pump is working but is the oil drawn via some vacuum from the carb ?

I have a 98 model Dt 200R was going alright up till the other day, stopped the engine & when I went to start it it was hard to start (normally easy) when it finally started it went to about 5000Revs and the revs kept increasing, when the throttle was given a quick twist the revs came down a bit but then slowly built back up again, it would hunt between 3000 & 7000 revs when the choke was operated it went over the redline. anyone have any ideas. pleaese help

Hi Folks, After rebuilding a box of bits, I am having problems starting my 78 DT175MX. The bike starts with full choke but revs to 6000RPMish!! Turning the choke off kills the engine & will not restart without the choke. Bike appears to be standard, so suspect a problem with the float level, not sure where to measure float height as manual does not say. Regards Mark

Please help. Ive got a 2004 dt 125 x and have had problems with the starter. What happens is when i press the start switch either it starts or you just hear the starter turning. sometimes its grinding as if the cogs aren't lined up properley. Have fitted new starter motor and same thing happens. Any suggestion will be greatfully recieved. Many thanks Dave.

So i emailed the ebay member about that powervalve set with cables etc that was posted and they assured me it was a 3 wire version. This is what turned up. Is this not a 5 wire version? Hi, my Dtr is going through gear oil at an amazing rate, basicly have to refill every 100miles or so, this cant be normal surely ? ! Have just had the return springs replaced with new gasget etc but its not leaking at all so i presume its burnning it ? H E L P ! 2strokeray !

Hi, im looking at down sizing my sports bike and getting a supermoto so i can still have lots of fun. Ive had a go of a WR 400 and loved it so i am looking at getting one but i dont know which is going to be better, a 400, a 426 or a 450. hi everyone left my xt660z tenere idling for a few mins after a run was going to check the engine oil level and noticed the downpipes started Glowing Red! near the cyl head, is it normal? never noticed before bikes only done 1200 miles runs great otherwise

Evening folks! As it currently stands, when I bought my bike about a month ago, (DT125R '03) The rear tyre the previous owner had put on was a budget jobbie to get it through an MOT by the look of things. Over the weekend I nearly had a nasty accident as the rear tyre has very little grip. The road surface wasn't perfect but it was normal conditions, and the back end of the bike had a mind of its own. I'm a competent rider and I'm almost certain it's not my skill that was at fault, nor the suspension. Anyway! What tyres would you gentlemen recommend? Most of the riding I do is general commuting at the moment, but I wouldn't mind taking the bike out for some offro…

Sup guys! First time here as a memeber.. Got a Yamaha DT125R from 2003, last couple times I've turned the ignition on I heard a really wierd sound from YPVS. Its like *Sound, pause, sound* but a quite short pause there. What did sound from at the beginning was the sound at the end, but now it all just sounds completly fked up to be honest.. : So what shall I do, may I record it and upload it here so you understand what I mean?

hi there i havent had this bike all that long on about the 3rd week i noticed my back brake was dead, the only resistance in the brake was the spring that brings the lever back up. so i brought it to a stop hopped off and had a look, i noticed that the rear brake fluid reservoir was broken (i would imagine id caught it with my boot getting on or off the bike). so i took it home and removed the reservoir and glued it back together (nice and air tight) left it over night to dry and put it back on the bike the next day. Then I went on the fill the reservoir up with brake fluid and bleed the brake. this is where the real problem comes up, it ill not bleed properly there…

Had a great time out on the local greenlanes today!, got as high up as 400-500 meters. lovely views will defo get some pics next time. However the bike went down a few times, reg plate off, rear light not coming on (hopefully its just the bulb that's blown) and snapped my rear brake reservoir, they are in such a damn silly place on these bikes (sticking out of the bike, if it was back/in the frame abit more- say half an inch it would be ideal!) If the right side of the bike EVER touches the ground u can pretty much bet you have bust your reservoir (XT125 05). What a pain in the ass! i have only had a new reservoir on it for about a week and a fucking half!!!!! ah…

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me with a problem I have when selecting first gear. The bike starts fine and ticks over but when I select first gear it stalls. The kickstand is up properly and clutch pulled right in when selecting gear. Any help would be much appreciated.Thanks
