Hello all, never used a forum for advice before but this bike is getting on my nerves I have a dt125r 2003 I recently bought as a non runner, I rebuilt the engine all new seals and bearing and gaskets. The bike will run fine with the choke out but as soon as I take the choke off it won't tick over or even Rev! I have had the carb striped and cleaned (all fine). Reed block and reeds are fine. New piston and rings (barrel is fine) compression is good anyone had this problem before? Many infomation would be helpful thanks

Hi all Have noticed that while messing about with my Mikuni TM 28 carb that bike revs so much better with snorkel out, but as average temp here is about 78, have to be carefull about overheating due to extra air flow, what has anybody else found with the snorkel as in or out being better. also i must have been lucky with my previous 2 strokes which i never touched Carburetor wise ( this is the rant bit ) as i have had the mikuni in and out more times then the Pope has said Amen, i have researched so much info on carb but there seems to be no definitive setup mine is not happy with a 240 or 230 Jet 220 jet for my carb runs best but still working on idle which is crap and…

Hey, ive got a DT125X, ive done the wire behind the speedo, and got a full dep exhaust pipe, and took the snorkel off the air box under the seat. All together they have made it considerably quicker! I've heard, it's then good to change the jets to bigger ones. Any idea of what's the best size to go for? And also the reed valve. I'm not fully up to speed with reed valves, i've never had one in my hands to look at. Any advice on whick is the best ones to get and where from? Thank you people, and god bless this forum for being full of genius'! lol

Hi all, im looking to see if it’s possible to put one of the new DT175 heads from eBay on a DT175E engine. The heads are slightly different (see picture). This would be for the 1978-81 dt175 bikes. Differences of heads pic The thing I’m more concerned with is the intake opening is bigger on the new DT175 head Thanks, McCooey

Hey everyone, Just bought a new to me 1980 Yamaha DT175. The bike is in mint condition and only has 600 original miles on it. The tac and speedo are in miles not sure if this is originally an American bike or if they all came that way, I live in Canada. Anyway, it runs really well and I have already taken it deep into the mountains, put about 50 miles on it and have no worries about the reliability of this thing. I am having an issue with the top speed. Guys on the internet are saying it should run at 120kph and mine tops out at around 50mph, roughly 80kph? It pulls pretty hard and idles well, but always struggles to get past 7000RPM. It will rev up 10,000rpm in …

Hi all, quick question for all the DT175 owners out there.. I followed a DT175 today, real tidy blue one with the same (or very similar) pipe to mine and a 1980 model. It didn't go like mine though. Not even close. It sounded flat, still husled up enough to leave me behind in the truck but nothing like my one. Mine would have cleared of, big time. It rides for all the world like an old MX bike. What yours like?

Hi all! Years ago I acquired a DT175 that had a seized clutch. The engine number is 559-005931 and the engine number matches. I've done a search of the forum and found this link for the US model identification. It's coming up as a 1976 DT175C on that site, but according to my notes from at least a decade ago it's a 1977 DT175 C. If I remember right I got that information from someone at the local Yamaha shop. Does anyone know if that VIN is from 1976 or 1977? Is there much difference between the '76 and '77 models? I plan on starting a project thread as this bike is now a basket case and I have my work cut out for me... but I'm quite looking forward really. Thanks i…

If you want to know how much quicker a DT175 is compared to XL185 you must own both. Although its 2 stroke vs 4 stroke its still amazing how much quicker the DT is...runs rings around the XL. Won`t get the good fuel consumption though.

Think I'm a sucker for challenges! I seem to be collecting 2 stroke DT's. I currently own a 125MX which has morphed into a 175MX and will be a restoration project, and also a DT125LC II which again will be a restoration project. I picked up a frame from EBAY, primarily because it had a better swinging arm for peanuts, and after a few beers have come up with a crazy idea to put it back on the road as a project bike... here lies the problem.. It's not a UK spec model, (Frame number starts 18G ******) which I've had confirmed by Yamaha UK, but it's a DT125/175L which is a cross between an 'MX' & and LC Mk I. Cosmetically it looks like a LC, but its got …
