Hi all, I have a 1976 Yamaha 125. When I purchased it the generator/starter didnt work but I could kick start it easily. I took it riding and the battery drained and it died (no charge). I have been working on this part of the bike. The starter part of the assembly now works fine, but I don't know how to tell if the generator assembly is charging. The test I usually perform on the other bikes is to take the positive terminal off the battery and see if the bike dies or keeps running. In the case of the 125 the bike dies. this bike does not seem to have a magneto, but has an inner armature couplewith a stationary assembly with all the wire hookup on it. I purchased so…

First post, first motorbike. Having ridden peds for about 8 years, I decided to up my game in preparation for doing my full test in a year or two. I bought a good condition yamaha rsx100 which a friend of mine who knows more about mechanics than me checked over. It seems to be in great condition, both mechanically and body wise. However, the one issue it did have was the kickstart lever. The ring of the lever has worn down and thus needs replacing. Being a complete noob. I bought a kickstart lever for an rxs100, believing the parts to be interchangeable. I appear to be wrong. The lever arrived, different shape, and the connector ring is too large to fit the…

I got a 1978 DT400 E with no spark. When I purchased the bike "a BAD choice" it ran fine. The key switch was missing as well was the kill switch along with all the lights except for the headlight. I just bought the bike to use off road to keep an eye on my son as he learns to ride on his 78 YZ-80. The headlight was smashed and didn't work as well as the speedo or tach. So since I was going to just do off road I removed them. The plug to the headlight would not come off so I cut the wires at the back of the plug. Now this where my memory is foggy. I don't remember if I started the bike after this or not. So I took all the wires between the forks and made sure they were all…

Hello all, I am new here so lets see if you can help me. I have a 1978 xs400-2e, It was running rough and I rebuilt the carbs and cleaned averything good. It still ran rough. I took off the left plug and the bike stalled, I took off the right plug and it ran with very little difference. I took out the plug and started the bike and the spark is great,( I still see the blue dot in my eyes). The last thing I checked was the mixture screws. They had plastic caps to avoid anyone addjusting them, bot the strange thing is the the right carb screw had no tip on it. it was blunt. I looked in the carb and the tip broke off in the port. I can get it out, but I cant find a listin…

Hi all, having recently bought my first yam (in bits) am now attempting to restore it, my first query is how best to paint the steel tubed frame, I've heard powder coating is very good, can anyone recommend this and if so, how best should I prep the frame? removing the old paint uncovered some bad pitting and rust, would using KURUST or a similar product to treat rust be ok before powder coating. I'm sure I'll have many more questions of a more technical nature in the future, hope that's ok. cheers steve.
