Hi Couldn't start a new topic in the Wanted section so will leave this here if that's okay? Have noticed that the (standard) exhaust on the Dragstar is venting from the muffler weld and so am putting out some feelers for a new system. Have been scouring the usual sites but if anyone knows of anyone who has Highway Hawks for sale, or similar respected slash cut pipes / slip ons, then I would be interested in taking a look. Any idea if these are any good? http://www.customcruisers.com/Custom2005/customshop2005/contents/en-uk/p9045.html Cheers

hello all, The warm days are coming and the rundown xvs i bought last year is finally getting some attention besides turning the engine over once every few days. Got to the back wheel, and it was so seized there was no way to get it of without wrecking the swing arm. after days of fruitless effort penetrating oil soaking and bashings I decided to just cut the spindle/axle and finally get it out. then replace it. examining the spindle, there was NO way this would of come out without cutting it, its rusted solid. MY QUESTION IS: Between the two centre wheel bearings, there is a wide spacer (about 3" long) which is rusted tight to the spindle, this appears to b…

Hi all, I'm new here so apologies if I've posted this wrong, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me? My 125 dragstar has recently been playing up just after starting making it hard to get it running. it'll start okay, but then on giving it any throttle the front cylinder will bottle out and stop firing properly. this is a consistent problem and I've tried to remedy it by changing the sparks, oil, and a few other things, but none have seemed to work. It might be useful to say I changed the pipes to straight throughs when I got it and the mixture leaned off due to the decreased back pressure, but I rejetted the carb which fixed the problem- but now …

Spurred on by the 02 mod success I have been looking at Yamaha Airbox mods. The usual way is to drill 75, 1/8th holes in the plastic surround. With my drilling skills I decided to try alternatives, I bought 4, 1/4in wide rubber tap washers and longer airbox bolts, cut three pieces of heavy duty foam and fixed them to the inside of the cover to make sure the air filter was still pushed flush to the back surround, put the washers between the chrome cover and the black base and tightened down. This leaves a 1/4 inch air gap around the whole of the airbox. Results... smoother running and best of all the sound is now superb with a real growling noise when accelerating. I reali…

I've had my new xvs 1300 for 6 months now and have found I need more pull back on the the bars. I get a very sore neck from leaning forward to far on long rides. Apparantly the wheel base is nearly 2 inches longer than the 1100. Has anybody found this problem or can anybody recomend a set of bars. Risers are out of the question because of the position of the taco.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, and new to bikes in general. I was wondering if anyone could take a min to help me out with choosing between the XVS400 and the XVS650. I'm looking at fitting a bobber kit to it as well. I'm a car mechanic, so fitments and all are not a concern. From what I've gathered so far, the XVS400 is uncommon. Will this be a problem when it comes to aftermarket parts? Or are the 400 and 650 pretty similar? My main concerns are comfort and power. Which rides better in high speeds (highways)? ... Windy country roads? And also, which is quicker? 0-100 times roughly? I've tried to do my research, which has lead me to these two bikes, but…

  14. Hello all I wondering if I could get some advice. I have recently bought a xvs 650 dragster 97. But when I first taken it out it was jolty, wasn't very responsive, and revs wound just go up and sit their then drop again. When I was ridding and release the throttle the idle was to low and it would cut out. I then taken it back cleaned the jets on the carbs out 2 of them was blocked and it ran sweet for an hour she was responsive no jolts or back pops rode a dream. Until on the way home she went back to running dig shit. This morning I stripped the jets cleaned them, fuel filter and air filter and put in some nice new fuel bit she is still runn…

Hi All, I am really enjoying my fist trip into Cruising and my Yamaha XVS 950 is putting a smile on my face with every mile. I just have a question around the 1st service as mine has just gone through this. The cost was £95 (£35 of which was labour/not too bad) the filter was £11 but a further £34 was on Oil in the amount of 4.5 litres. This seemed a lot on both counts and looking around it seems that the bike only takes 4.0 litres anyway? I can't believe a flush was done and this was certainly not mentioned by the shop. So my questions are does the cost sound reasonable and also with the 4.5L of oil could it be that either it was only 4.0L or that it has …

Hey everyone, So I'm new to the forum, haven't had my account for long, and I was looking for some advice. I currently own a 2004 XVS 125 Dragstar, it's my first bike and I'm using it to practice until I get my full license. Recently the engine stopped firing on the front cylinder, I started the bike and could tell straight away that something was wrong. Me and a mechanic friend had a look and found that there was no spark on the front cylinder. At first we thought it might have been the coils but they were fine, then we had a look at the Ignition Control Module as people in a few other forums had a similar problem and this is what they pinned it to. I tried m…
