maybe thats a stupid topic to start on a bike forum, but I hate driving cars! No just getting stuck in traffic, but the actual process of driving those big metal boxes around town feels like trying to manoeuvre a very big thing down a very small passage (insert smutty remark here lol). In contrast when I'm on my bike I feel safe, i have a great field of vision, I'm able to anticipate other road users, can nip through the gaps that cars get stuck in and i love every single mile. When I jump back in the car I'm nervous and to be honest feel completely useless behind the wheel! Its probably a case of inexperience, I passed my test years ago but haven't driven regularly since…

I'm reading David Blume's "Alcohol Can Be A Gas: Fueling an Ethanol Revolution for the 21st Century" and the chapters on small utility engines, two-strokes, and motorcycle engines got me thinking. What are the major performance differences? (For starters. . .) It seems like someone with a good understanding of jetting and tuning could adjust for the octane differences, etc. and go off the grid with their fuel AND their WHISKEY! I'll try to put up a few of Blume's findings from some experiments a little later, but for now, I just thought I'd see if anyone had any good stories or experiences running their bikes on alcohol or other biofuels. Anybody ever have to g…

Hello everyone, I was hoping someone would be able to share a little knowledge and point me in the right direction. I have recently acquired a 1982 DT 125 Lc mk1. It is the first and only bike that has come into my possession thus far. It has been stored in a barn for the past ten years and unfortunately the fuel tank has some pretty aggressive pitting in it ( put away with fuel in tank I think). The rest of the bike is in good shape. My predicament is my knowledge or lack there of regarding yamahas. I'm wondering if there is a place where I can see all the compatible tanks for this bike. Does this exist? I've exhausted my google and eBay searches and was n…

Firstly - before the mods kick my ass - this is NOT a For Sale ad! I've had an approach from a guy who wants to swop his race/track bike for my FZR. Its also an FZR, but apparently was built by V&M for Jim Moodie as a spare bike for the 1996 North West 200 Production race but never used. Its in good condition, ready to race or for track day use. Its heritage can be verified as genuine (so i'm told). Is there much demand for this kinda thing? Or does anyone wanna buy it?? lol I'm kinda tempted to do the deal but only with the intentions of selling it on straight away to raise funds for another road bike. All opinions welcome! Vic

The other day I was looking through some photos of old DT's and came across thing beauty, which looks like a DT but the front end quite confuses me in terms of model, anyway back to the point. There is this thing behind the seat that looks like a "seat extender" which in my view looks really good. Does anyone have any information regarding this chrome piece? Was is an option extra? And can it be fit for later model DT's like my '80 DT175MX? It really grabs my attention, and oh btw the rider's seat looks quite shorter. Photo below: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all, I'm Karen from Glasgow, I'm new to forums but I'm having some issues so bit the bullet and joined lol! I have a 2007 R1 with power commander fitted. I changed jobs in 2009 and the bike went off the road due to low salary ( I didn't have the heart to sell! ). I finally decided to get it back on the road last year, changed plugs, battery, brake fluid, coolant etc, stripped out injectors and soaked them in carb cleaner and I dropped some oil down the bores and rolled the bike in gear to free off the Pistons. After all of this it fired up and ran perfectly, went for mot and sailed through, this was in April last year and I've been using the bike regular since an…

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Have a fzs600 8 yrs old 6500miles, i think this is the true mileage although now I'm not too sure, even though its spotless. It had been stood a year, had it mot'd taxed and took it to Scarborough one morning (i live in Leeds), when i got there cranking sounds coming from gearbox in first, second and the rest when i got home. Did i push her too hard too fast????! Chain was jumping on the top, so we thought it was front sprocket-looked at that-and its not. Sounds like a major strip down rebuild job- not looking forward to it. Anyone had this? From depressed.

Afternoon guys First off, I have cleared this request with your lovely admin...thanks Admin! I work for Powerbronze (proud spnosors of SMR ) and we are desperately looking to borrow an XJ6-N 2009 onwards to finish test fitting a screen. We've tried dealers all over the south and no one has one! We are based in West Sussex and so the closer the better really, but we will take any help we can, and there's a free screen in it for whoever can come to our rescue! If you have this model bike, or know someone who does (why aren't they on here?!), please PLEASE could you give us a call on 01903 783222 (you'll need the sales office which is option 1), or send…

Just wondering if anyone here has had any experiences with going long distance on a 250cc bike? I'm thinking of planning a 600 mile round trip for the first few warmer/drier days we have around here. My bike is an 07 Virago 250 with about 4250 miles on it. Its in real good shape. Planning on doing each 300 miles in 2 days with a little overnight camp inbetween. Think my bike will hold up or my butt will go first? lol. I have gone over 100 miles round trip, but thats 1/6th of what im planning, so any tips, warnings, or tricks to keep my butt from going to sleep would be appreciated!

Hey all, I'm new here and lookng for some help. i have an 88 fz 600 (not fzr, just fz, no genesis head etc) I bought it last september in pieces from a guys garage who couldn't get it back together. yesterday I finally had it started up and revving well, the problem is in neutral it started and revved, (it's on a swing arm stand) but when i clicked it into first to test the tranny, the back wheel started spinning, clutch pulled in and all. I have other old bikes that do this too so i stuck my foot on the tire to stop it, but it wouldnt stop so i can only think that the clutch was engaged, so i id what i could to shorten the cable and even manually held the sprin…

I dropped my bike last friday pulling out of a car park. Just hit some frost on the raod and with cold tyres too it just went from under me. Fortunatley the low speed means the damage is minimal. It was the right hand side and i'v already ordered the new levers, bars, etc, which hasn't come to much and fortunatley i have the standard exhaust in the garage. Anyway it has lightly scuffed the fairing in about 3 places and i'm looking for a descent bodyshop to take the bike too to have it re-sprayed/touched up. I had crash bungs and the damage is so light i believe i could even touch it up myself but i don't mind spending the money to have the bike back to a great stan…
