Hi Guys , new to the board but from what I've seen so far I'm sure it will come in very handy over the next few months. Anyway, wondering if you guys might be able to help me, well the xs650 guys anyway. Can anyone tell me if the xs650 special/ custom shared the same frame/chassis with the roadster type bikes or indeed can anyone tell me what differences there were between the custom models and the roadster type bikes ? for example was it the same chassis just longer forks and bigger wheels. Please excuse my ignorance but I hope you might be able to help. many thanks gerard

Trying to find out how many XS650 twins (1970-83) were manufactured. I've heard the number is approximately 500,000 but haven't been able to confirm that figure through a reliable source. Has anybody seen any production figures from a reliable source? Or, better yet, does anybody know how to get them from Yamaha?

Help needed here. I am going for a "spirit of the seventies" type cafe racer mod to my xs 750. I have a twin disc front wheel off (I think) an xs400 with a 15mm spindle. The original xs750 spindle is 17mm. I am struggling to find bearings that will fit the 18" wheel (42mm OD) with the 17mm ID that i need for the original spindle. has anyone done this mod beofre and can throw a bit of light on this thanks

My neighbor has an XS750, the tacho stopped working two days ago and he asked me to have a look, when I got there this morning I took the cable off and found out it was totally seized (Like not from rust, from fraying and tangling itself up it seems), put on the cable he bought as a replacement and it still didn't work, on closer inspection we found the drive gear wasn't turning. I took the valve cover off and to our horror we found out that the drive gear has totally eaten itself, the bevel drive on the camshaft is basically gone. Now the real problem. All the shavings seems to have been swept into the depths of the engine. Do you think it's game over? I'm guessing…

I'm nearly finished rebuilding my XS850 set in a 750 frame. I didn't touch the clutch outside of removing the cable, as it worked perfectly with full travel and play when I bought the bike and I had made no change to the mechanical pin adjustment. Problem is, cable routed and re-attached, I can't get the clutch to disengage. I did pull the motor, left it wet and upright during the frame off resto (3 months), and did have it lying on it's left side on a garage rug for roughly an hour as I slipped the frame back over and mounted it back up. The cable has full travel. I have played with both the motor and lever linkage adjustments as well as the mechanical adjustment (b…

Hey Guys this is my 1st post. I'm restoring a XS850 Midnight Special. I was reading through some posts and see that people seem to think that the XS models can be problematic, can anyone tell me what goes wrong? I got my bike last week after it had be dry stored for 12months without being run, started on 1st kick!!! Was well chuffed! I've given it a clean and shes runs nice and smooth and am now looking for bits to restore her to her former glory. I'm on the look for a new fuel tank if you know of any going? Any hints/tips would be appriciated. Is this model at all rare? Cheers Mike

Hi, Can anyone give me any idea why when I start the bike up after two minutes the generator outer cover starts to get very hot. I have exposed the generator assembly and as you can see from the pictures there are marks as if it was grinding with something. Or maybe it's as simple as the torque not being tight enought allowing movement when spinning? Hope this makes sense. Picture of the bike nearly completed...

hello people i need some help iv been looking to upgrade my CDI and iv come to an dead stop but iv looked at the ttr 125 stage 3 digitally tunable CDI and they have the same engine, spark lead and coil and same connecter the wiring on the diagram displays a simmilar lay out but different colours im more trial and error but when im spending £150 + i need a second opinion Also if i remove the last cable (black-white) on the current CDI by unpluging it from the other end (save damaging any thing) it seems to take the resriction off the top revs does this seem to work for any one else
