I am not sure if this subject has been covered on here before but I think it is worth a bit of discussion (or to be ignored if that’s what people want) so I will vent anyway. Seeing how the Government is always banging on about climate change and we need to exude fewer emissions I would have thought that they would want to encourage more people into biking. Any motorbike will have less impact on the environment than any car (excluding electric vehicles) so why put barriers in the way? Let’s look at the CBT. This was basically introduced as a cycling proficiency test to make sure that youngsters don’t buy a bike and get splashed as soon as they go out on the road…

have you seen the big guy at the barn selling his tyre gunk stuff,£25-£45 quid a pop. suppose you get a nail in your tyre ,the gunk fills the peirce and saves you pushing your hack ,good.BUT what if a screw goes in i would imagine it will pull out the rubber in the thread of the screw ,now will his spunky stuff fill that gap i dont think it would ,and out of nine punctures ive had ,seven were screws , one was a blow out ,and one, yes it was a nail.so is it worth it

Thanks so much for having this forum on the net. The time I've spent reading and looking at the bikes has been very rewarding. Hope your new year will be the best yet. Rick

As a little background, I used to be a regular on the forum and had a DT175mx. Ended up buying other bits and ended up with 2 DT175mx's both in bits. What I missed was riding a bit and the time to work on the bits so I sold the bits and brought a bike to ride around on. I missed some of the forum banter and am now looking to start a new project. Ideally I want a trails type bike that will suffer the occasional long ride and a few short rides. '70's or '80's and I would guess that a XT500 fits the bill (except maybe the cost). I am looking to spend about £500 on a rolling chassis or £1000 on something better and don't want the total spend, over about 12 months, to cost…

Put some new friction plates in the DTMX today and whilst doing it I discovered some backlash between the basket and drive gear. It could have been developing for ages for all I know. Thing is it's pecking my head now because I was going to the Blackpool triples club rally on it. I have a dog rough engine at work but it's not stripped and I wouldnt expect much judging from the overall condition of it, not sure I even have the time to strip and change it even if it is good. ...do I use it...fully loaded over belmont hill...decisions decisions. EDIT Come to think of it i'm pretty sure the rough spare engine is a later model and the clutch has a different part numbe…

Pheeeew, swapped onto the TDR now and oh f me i forgot how bloody hard it is to ride well. Yes the engine is very torquey and responsive for a 2 stroke but still, it is a 2 stroke running gopping great flatsides, not a recepie for smooth and steady progress. Compared to the DT....... Didn't take long for the mist to decend though, oh my god you can see why there are so few left, St Andrew himself would be cast out on one of these. What a motorcycle... Bring on the sunshine..............................

I took the front L-Plate of my bike because it looked proper wank. The guy who owned the bike before me did a really shit job of putting it on. Now my XT 125 looks a lot better without it off, so I have decided to keep it off. I just carry brand new L-Plates in the packet on me, so if the Police pull me I can just say I'm about to put them on. Also I feel like a knob with L-Plates on.

Hi me again I have purchesed a new engine for my XT125x only the generator looks different its defo a XT125x but not sure of the year my old engine has only one raised area on the part that spins round that is connected to the crank. The new one has lots of raised parts I think this is what makes the spark? Will it hurt just to change them round? Thanks Lukyboi

I have run my bike on Shell V-Power since getting it. I know people will say that it makes no difference, but it does, and the extra 8 pence more it costs than regular fuel is nothing, especially as it only costs £13 odd to fill her up. Anyway the other day I got caught out and had to use a Jet garage. Jet don't even have a quality equivalent to V-Power so I had to put their regular unleaded in. I noticed how different my bike was, it was sluggish and slower and the engine rattled like fuck. It wasn't good at all. I then put some Shell in it and it was okay after a while. It definitely makes a difference buying super unleaded.

Hey guys, First off, nice to meet you all. (as far as meeting on a forum goes...) I'm new here. Just got one of my first bikes.. a 1973 TX500 Got the carbs off, and cleaning. Primary cover is off for general inspection/cleaning. I'll have some picture for you guys soon enough. Anyway.. I've been scouring the internet for a service manual for this thing (there is a loud tapping going on in the engine, and I'm guessing it's either valves or the cam chain slapping around... anyone know how I can figure out which it is?). I've never tightened a cam chain, or done a valve job. Hell I've never taken off a primary casing. Having tons of fun, but I need …
