  3. Hi, I have just bought a 1999 R1 which has an Alarm/imobiliser fitted but I don't know what it is! The problem is I only have 1 fob for it and obviously if I loose it or it stops working I'm knackered!! The fob is just a plain black square fob with a white(ish) button and red LED. There is no name or numbers on it inside or out! The black box is exactly that.... a plain metal black box again with no markings, name or numbers on it! It is tie wrapped to the side of the subframe under the seat unit. It looks like a decent job with proper plugs and sockets going into the loom. I say Alarm/Imob but to be honest I've never heard it make a noise or go off?? So it may just b…

Need some experienced advice concerning my clutch lever on my XJ600S. Its a '98 model and in really good condition with FSH etc, but since I bought it (last week) I've noticed that the clutch lever is a bit shakey and needs to be tightened. Whilst a bit of movement isn't a problem, mine seems to be able to move around an inch up and down at the furthest point from the pivot. I'm surprised because the bike had a service before I collected it from the garage I bought it from. Is this normal for an older bike? Can I tighten it myself or do I need to go back to the garage for some adjustment? It still works fine and the gear change is nice and smooth. Perhaps I'm …

  11. Started by Matt G,

Hi folks, I was able to take some photos, so, now I'd appreciate any help in identifying what I have here (year and model). The bike seems to have been sorely abused and it's difficult to tell what is missing, if anything (other than the cylinder head, carburetor and air box). I'm still searching for a carb. It's a red Yamaha GT80 (that's what the decals on the gas and oil tanks says). The "Spec Plate" on the rear fender shows the date of manufactrer as "5/1978." The frame and engine nos. match "367-5023**." There are no lights (headlight, taillight, or turn signals) on the bike and it doesn't appear as if any were mounted originally. So, is it a 1978 GT8…

Got hold of a lovely TDR 250, great bodywork really looked after, ( as far as washing and polishing goes). Brake fluid like 3 day old coffee, OVER 2L of transmission oil in the box (1L req, i thought it would never stop as i only had a small bowl) that was black, throttle cable, clutch cable, oil pump, chain, lever positions, gear change anti rattle shim missing, squeaky brakes, ancient plugs badly gapped. Spent all Sunday sorting that little lot, just waiting on the tyres now they are in Wed/TH they are aincient (sidewalls are starting to crack). It goes a LOT better for the work tho. When will people realise these things don't maintain themselves AND…

Read this in the Motor cycle news and was left with a lump in my leather pants throat, thought it should be shared, the tome that is-not the lump in my,,,,,well,,,you get it. (ahem) One could be forgiven for dubbing ‘refueling’ as the most uninvolving element to motorcycling (I won’t say boring, physics proves this impossible when bikes are involved). Sure, you have to stand and watch the counter with a steady hand, and remember to bring the money to pay with. But in comparison to say, normal riding, it isn’t as demanding. Those who ride will know what I’m talking about. The Zen like state of oneness one acquires when riding is, astounding. Anyway! the p…

  18. my 2003 XVS1100 struggles to swing over hot or cold and sometimes the motor even 'stalls' the starter-motor. battery reads 13.3VDC standing and 14.2VDC at idle. Is it true that these bikes 'strip' or break their starters as a model problem? welcome any suggestions and advice... thx Miguel

Three men, a Scouser, a Manc and a Rasta all in the maternity ward waiting for their partners to give birth. The midwife comes out and tells them congratulations, they're all father's of beautiful healthy boys, however unfortunately they've run out of the name tags, and the babies have been mixed up, so if they could each go in and identify their sons from any family resemblance etc. The Manc wants to go first, so in he goes and comes out with a black baby The Rasta looks a bit confused : "Excuse me", he says, "But don't you think he's likely to be mine ?" "Probably", replies the Manc, "But one of them in there's a Scouser, and I'm takin' no chances !!!!!"
