Just purchased my first motorbike (17 years old, UK, Scotland, Highland) , it's a Yamaha YBR 125CC, I'm desperately needing motorbike gear asap. I can't seem to find much relevant information on how much i should be spending. I can find boots for £500 and for £30, Jackets for £5000 and £50. Pretty much what i need opinions and facts on is: What price range would you be looking at if you are riding a bike all year round and as much protection as possible. It's inevitable I'll have an accident within the next 2 years on some kind of scale, I'm not scared of blood, grazing and bashing. As long as my gear can keep my bones from my breaking and my brain from smashing!! …

Hi Everyone, I’m organising a group buy for silicone kits to replace the 9 coolant hoses on the FZS600 98 - 03. Our beloved Fazers are getting on a bit now and the coolant hoses are often forgotten about when upgrading or replacing parts. No company currently makes a kit for our bikes and no one will unless we can get this first order sorted. I now have a price for the kits and the company, sfs performance who are a great uk based company, are just waiting for me to confirm there are at least ten orders before they begin the production process. There is more info here, the main update is on page 5: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6189.100.html If you are interest…

Well it seems to be the fashion around here to introduce yourself so here goes....... I'm TQ, I'm 21. I used to ride bikes a few years ago (Gilera DNA 50 and Honda NSR 125 between the ages of 16 and 17) but haven't for the last few years. I've wanted to get back on a bike ever since I sold the last one so recently I finally got round to it and booked some lessons. I did my CBT yesterday, got my Module 1 booked for the 15th and all going well will have my full license about a week after that. Picking up a 1997 XJ600N tomorrow which I'm going to have to just sit and look at for a couple of weeks before I pass my test but then I don't think you'll be able to keep me of…

HI, I'm not too technically minded so hopefully I can find someone here who would be able to offer some advice. My main headlamp doesn't work (dipped or head). Although the blue head-beam indicator is permanently on and the bulb appears fine (having checked the little element), only the secondary bulb seems to be work. I got it to work briefly by tightening it but after a few 'tightenings', it appears, now, to have died. If I can save myself the $$ Ill try and fix it myself, so would be very grateful for any suggestions.... I thought it might have been a fuse (as a car) but I doubt my little YBR has a fuse for the head beam..... Thanks a million

Hi all - can anyone give me an idea of a realistic alternative radiator for my Thunderace please? I'm fed up with aching wrists from the clip-on bars and heavy clutch so have opted to possibly junk the fairing and fit more upright bars. The reason to junk the fairing is the mirror supports are going to clatter on the higher, upright bars. This has led to the discovery of an awful lot of rat's nest wiring on show along with a radiator that's designed to be hidden behind a great big fairing which if removed reveals it in all it's glory with bit's and bobs poking out all over the place. Or should I just remove the standard mirrors (and supports), trim t…

Alzheimer's test The following was developed as a mental age assessment by the School of Psychiatry at Harvard University. Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a mistake. The average person over 40 years of age cannot do it! 1. This is this cat. 2. This is is cat. 3. This is how cat. 4. This is to cat. 5. This is keep cat. 6. This is an cat. 7. This is old cat. 8. This is fart cat. 9. This is busy cat. 10. This is for cat. 11. This is forty cat. 12. This is seconds cat. Now go back and read the third word in each line from the top down and I betcha' you cannot resist passing it on.

Hi all The other day I got caught on my R6 doing 93mph in a 60, had the letter through that said it cannot be resolved with a fixed penalty ie. A court summons, anybody any idea what I'll get? Also only had my license about a year but a car license for about 6 years, does the 6 points in 2 years thing count. Any help would be great Also for the people that say I deserve what I get, I know I do!! Thanks

Sorry but I'm really pis**d off, with Yamaha's, I bought this Thundercat (1999 model) in what appeared to be in very good all round condition, 13,300 miles from an N. Ireland dealer, it's the only 2nd Yamaha I've owned in 50+ years of biking, went out on the second ride and the nearside oil seal blew, and it has never happend with the Honda's or Kawasaki's I've had. I stripped it down and the garage fitted new original Yamaha oil seals both sides, great, went out again for a run and on the second time, it blew again. So not best pleased especially as the mechanic said it could be the fork bushes this time, and those could have been done first time.. methinks al…

I'm selling my SR250 to a friend, but we want to fix or at least understand a certain issue first. Problem: When going at near-maximum speed, motor starts couching and eventually goes out. The top-speed has gone from 120 to 80 during the last 4 months. First fix (not counting changing the oil): Today I was opening the case of the air filter for the first time, and I was expecting a black, nasty foam that needs mineral spirits to clean it or replacement. When I opened the case, I was very surprised to see, that there's no foam!? (see attached picture) Just a simple round net, that looks like it's there for holding a foam filter was there. Maybe it's becaus…

Ok, i was wondering how much harder the full test is than CBT. I dont mean to sound stupid, i realise that it is harder, but i think i probs ride to standard (mirrors checked every 10-15 secs, two pushes of the indicators to make sure they cancel everytime, throwing lifesavers around like they are candy at a parade, plus riding straight and safe and within speed limits) do i stand a chance? I'm itching to get riding a big bike (even if limimted to 33bhp), and my step-dad's got a Thundercat hes willing to GIVE me if i pass. Cheers guys Alex
