  3. Newbie here so please be patient hahaha At a crossroads now as to which bike im gonna go with. I've whittled it down to two. YZ125 or YZ250F (New most likely and leaning towards the 250F) Skill level.. Noob. I've heard the "buy cheap and work your way up" many times. So please leave that bit out of any posts pleasee ? Whats the best "servicing" process do you guys and gals go through after every ride or so too? i do understand the level of up-keep on these competition bikes is extensive but im really looking for the absolute best process and best products to use. Dont worry about budget products. I'm really looking for the perfect process and who…

Hi Guys I'm after peoples opinions if you don't mind... I am having an issue at the moment with my XVS950. It starts up fine on a morning and when its been stood for a while and is cold. The problem comes when you ride it for an extended period (say half an hour), the bike wont start back up until its totally cooled off... It's happened twice recently and both times after a 30 minute ride...it gets 10 minute rides everyday twice a day and there is no issue...starts every time but ride it for 30 minutes and it struggles to start back up if you don't leave it for at least an hour... The people I've spoken to think its the starter motor....like its over…

  7. Dear Yamaha fans, long story short I have brought a Yamaha YZF-R 125 from Switzerland to the UK. The bike belonged to my son, I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about motorcycles. The bike clearly has to be made UK-compliant, for example the headlights have to be modified so that the dipped beam is in the correct position. However one huge item is a module which "converts" the european "dashboard" from kilometers travelled and KPH to miles travelled and MPH. The dealer says that a UK bike would already have such a module to permit conversion but European bikes do not have that module and hence I need to buy one as part of UK compliance. The stock code is "5D7H35001300". And a cost…

Help needed! The sight glass on my trusty Dragstar Custom needs replacing, but doesn't seem to be available without having to buy whole master cylinder. Second hand units are hard to come by and mostly seem to be available from the US as V-Star version. Can anyone tell me if this is a suitable replacement please? It's also been suggested that the oil sight glass could be used. This is available as a separate item to buy, again does anyone have any knowledge of whether this could be used? Thanks in advance Jude

Hi I've just joined. I've got a 1992 Diversion that I built up from a box of bits 5 years ago. I use it as a winter bike and it has now done 59000 miles. It has always had a clunky gearbox - the worst I've ever experienced - and the timing chain tensioner has no adjustment left so I've decided to change the engine for a lower mileage one. The engine in the bike has a number that starts with 4BR which is the Yamaha model number. The new engine I've got starts 4DU and seems identical in every way. What is Yamaha model 4DU and what are the differences between the two engines. Can any one help please? msdavidson

Morning guys just got hold of a 77 rs100 and trying to get it running. Is a non runner at the mo and needs various things doing. One issue at the mo is with the clutch pushrod. I can't get correct adjustment on it I've removed the pushrod and found no ball bearing so ive fitted that and now I can turn the adjuster so it just touches the end of the rod but it goes so far into the case I can't put the lock nut on ! Iam thinking the previous owner has fitted the incorrect length push rod in it? Anyone know the correct length for a 77 rs100? Anything else I might have missed? Cheers

  12. I bought an extended warranty for my Stryker 3 years ago. It expires this year. Last Spring when I uncovered my bike, I found the plastic surface of the clutch cover had become wrinkled. I called Yamaha to find out how to get the cover replaced under warranty and was told I had to go through my dealer. I contacted the dealer twice, first in February and then again in May. Nobody from Yamaha contacted me. I finally got in touch with a manager at Yamaha Canada and this was his reply: Good afternoon: I am not showing a file in the warranty system regarding your request for warranty coverage but I just consulted with the Warranty and Service staff. T…

Scratching my head trying to get the bike running but no spark from the coil, have checked all the wiring all seems good, currently getting around 5v to the coil from the cdi but i dont know if thats enough. Resistance readings at the coil and the source and pulser coils are lower than haynes manual says they should be. I dont want to just throw a cdi at it and hope although Ive got one on the way just incase.

Prepped my boys Virago in readiness for an MoT (booked for tomorrow,) He started a new job in April and has been on training so no time for bikes. His bike has sat in the shed since last year. Replaced front brake fluid and cleaned and adjusted rear drum brake. checked all lights work, checked spokes on wheels and fork seals. Didn't check steering head bearings as no centre stand and I was on my own but took it a wee run and they felt fine, so should be good to go tomorrow

I recently acquired a 1976 RS 100C with less than 5K miles. It doesn't need much attention, but I want to replace the tires. The bike came with a 2.5-18/front and 2.75-18/rear. The Owner's Manual says these were the proper tires, but my Haynes Workshop Manual says 2.75-18/front and 3.00-18/rear. Can anyone tell me which is correct and/or recommended. I'd like to stay as close to "original" as possible. Thanks, Bob

  18. Rich back on two wheels Trying to find the best, most recommended or the most SUITABLE 2 stroke engine oil. I've searched the for Yamahas recommended 2 stroke oil for my 1986 Yamaha RD350LC and come up with no definitive answer? at the moment I'm unsure which would be the best? possibly MOTUL 2T 100 mineral or maybe one of the Castrol brands, Activo 2T, Power 1 2T or Power 1 racing 2T OR maybe there is a better alternative altogether? I would love to hear from anyone in the know on this one. any responses are much appreciated. plus I'm in a bit of a predicament, as although I've seen the seat removed before and I have the key for the lock which turns b…

Don't know about anybody else but I have clocked up a few miles this winter. I have done my time being a full time motorcyclist and much as people may say otherwise, for me, fuck that!. My car is cheaper, quicker (yes if you include putting all your gear on, unlocking the garage, then the bike etc) and warm and dry. But I have been out using the bike. Bloody good it feels too. Its cold granted but the roads on the whole of late have been salt free and relatively clear of the usual winter slime. Even some sunshine. I know it cant last and Feb will blast us, or March for a late frosting who knows. But for now, yay.
