No, I dont mean taking it out for a few pints and a meal. Ive been riding various bikes for a few months and only recently found out that tyres are dated. On the side wall should be four digit number (three digit on pre year 2000 tyres). This number denotes the week and year it was made. For example '0510' would mean that that particular tyre was made in week 5 of 2010. RoSPA say stored tyres shouldn't be used if they are over 6 years old from date they were made. This info may be of use the next time your buying tyres. If you do have a choice pick the younger tyre. HTH Joshua 2

Okay! So as we know I now have a lovely new frame with V5 and my bits are all on the lovely 1999 frame... However I had some worries about the engine as I spoke with on of the previous owners of the bike 2 weeks ago and he said "yeah it's a dt lc engine" as you can imagine I was not amused... Until I phoned Yamaha today!!! 1989 DTR 125 engine (might I add it's been maxed on engine mods barr exhaust). It has a total capacity of 175-180 (not 100% on which, I'm assuming 175 as it's more common). A friend has offered that after getting a new exhaust system on there that he'll put it on the dyno and we can play around with it a little more buwahahaha!!! A…

Hi All, Don't know if you have seen this before but if your trying to identify your engine or frame then this seems the place to look, just type in your numbers or make and model and it tells you approx year of manufacture and the engine size, not a fully comprehensive list but pretty close and it can give you an idea about what your bike started out as. http://merrittmotorcyclesalvage.com/yamahaidentification.htm just follow the link and it's quite straight forward to get all the info your need. Ride safe.

So I've had this bike for two years now, I'm doing a ton of maintenance so it will hopefully be problem free this summer. Mos of this stuff I've never done before so this quite a learning experience for me. Anyways my current problem is that I'm trying to check and adjust the contact points for the ignition but mine looks nothing like it does in the shop manual I have. Does that black piece of plastic need to be removed or is this an electric ignition? Heres a picture, thanks in advance. http://img546.imageshack.us/i/engine1.jpg/

Hi all. I'm planning on doing my full motorbike test this year, got my theory test in a few weeks. I can't make my mind up wether to do a restricted license or a direct access and was hoping for some advice. A massive part of me wants something a bit quicker than my ybr 125(not silly fast, but with the ability to overtake on A roads for example and do some more 'spirited' b road rides in the sun), but the sensible part thinks, 'stick to it for a another year or 2 and then move on once the restriction ends' (and make the most of the 120+ mpg average). I'm not daft enough to think that I won't end up in hospital at some point because of bikes but I know after passing my ca…

I have a 97 Tour Deluxe. The previous owner changed the exh sys to an open pipe sys. My problem is that he did not rejet. Question. What size jets do I try first? Also at slow speed the bike wants to pull right is this normal? Thanks Cap N Moe.

Hey folks, The divvy has got an M357t on it but not wired in, no fob, but I do have all the original documents and even fitting centre details, which is in London. Does anyone know of an authorized dealer or fitter / repairer in Scotland, preferably in the Edinburgh area? I've had a google about and can't find any definitive info. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I was hoping someone would be able to share a little knowledge and point me in the right direction. I have recently acquired a 1982 DT 125 Lc mk1. It is the first and only bike that has come into my possession thus far. It has been stored in a barn for the past ten years and unfortunately the fuel tank has some pretty aggressive pitting in it ( put away with fuel in tank I think). The rest of the bike is in good shape. My predicament is my knowledge or lack there of regarding yamahas. I'm wondering if there is a place where I can see all the compatible tanks for this bike. Does this exist? I've exhausted my google and eBay searches and was n…

Hey there, I just got a YBR125 09 and when I am looking for parts on websites I cant find parts for newer than 08. Can anyone tell me why this is and if the parts for an 08 are the same as the 09 model. I am looking for a chain, is it a good idea to get a "heavy duty" one? Cheers

At the start of April my beloved FZR was stolen from off my drive-way. I was absolutely gutted and the police came back with the usual, nothing. But now I've been out and purchased a new bike, technically its used but to me its new. I am now the proud owner of an R reg Thundercat. Anyone got any tips for the bike? Also, anyone know any cheaper security items, preferably alarmed d-locks, chains etc? I know that I should put more value into the security but now I've bought the bike I'm skint and I need something now.

hi there, I'm looking for a fuel cap for my XVS 650 (1997 model) I'm finding it very hard to find one. i was driving along yesterday and it flew off as i was driving, the spring broke of the release mechanism, hopped along the road and into the ditch by the time i pulled up and ran back i couldn't find it, gone forever... That's what you get for not fixing the damn thing in the first place. I looked up wemoto.com and mandp.co.uk and they don't have them in stock. It's a rare enough item i would imagine. So hence why i am here now. Any advice of where to look? I know in the states that V-star is the equivalent of the drag star, but my model is 1997 and it only came…

ok , i need a recommendation for a chain/padlock. I need it to do 2 things, 1st is primary security of a bike and second is read below. Need the chain and lock to lock a security gate on a shared driveway in my road. Im having a extension built and the t**t down the road has locked the gates with another chain and lock to stop my skip being taken away and another one being delivered. A car is left in the access road so again no access can be gained from this shared access so what better way than to f**k him at his own game than put my own lock on it untill i can see the land registry and determin the legality and course of action i can take. Before any one says i…
