Hey all, When Spring shows its face I'm going on a road trip! I'm using this trip as a chance to build up my experience before working towards my full license. Also, I found last years 450 mile jaunt so much more fun than the car (despite the speed, constant rain, fog, cold and navigation of non-motorway roads!) I'm in the planning stages at the moment. I don't yet know when and how much time I'll be taking off work. What I do know is that I've narrowed it down to Cornwall. I'll be cleaning and servicing the bike before leaving, but I was wondering if you guys could let me know what sort of things I should carry in my armoury for bike maintenance? So far I'm think…

  2. I went to see it today and for a 10 year old bike, it was in pretty good shape. However, I have a few questions about road legality. It comes with front/rear lights, a horn and an odometer. Which is in the list of requirements to make a bike road legal. 1) The bike does not come with a speedometer. It's not required to pass an MOT but you must have one to be road legal. I read that cheap push-bike speedometers are acceptable, any truth in this? Also, any recommendations for cheap speedometers? 2) It has one of those small flexible number plates fitted. I think it might be a 6 x 4, not too sure. Would this still be illegal on the road for an enduro? I saw a vid…

Very excited... I have a few days off work and have been given 'permission' from the other half to go away on the bike for a few days before Crimbo, yay!! Just need to plan the detail now... Nothing like an impromptu trip away on the bike. Very excited, ha ha!

Just wondering what mileage other XJ6 owners get out of their bikes on a full tank - be it city, motorway or mixed riding? I've not had my bike long and had the experience of the digital dash and its low fuel warning the other day. It confused the hell out of me at the time - but have since read the manual so now I get it. Although I've not quite worked out how many miles I have left once the fuel warning starts to flash. Can anyone tell me roughly what they get once the warning starts to flash? Or what's the most miles they'd travel once it comes on? When did modern motorbikes become so sophisticated? What happened to the days of 'counting' the miles an…

I've been quiet (lurking and enjoying the YBR over winter) Now passed A licence and looking to move up to a bigger bike. Torn between a new MT07 abs and a slightly old Honda Hornet abs. I know I'm on a Yammy site but would welcome any thoughts that more experienced heads may have on the matter.

Thankfully all the summer bikers are coming out of the sheds for the summer, it's nice to see so many more bikes about. But last spring, and this one I'm noticing a trend, none of them nod, maybe my engine size doesn't please them, or they're just snobs. I don't understand, not a single one I've seen thus far will nod back. Kinda makes me laugh, whilst they sat inside all winter polishing and drinking tea I was out, and now they look down on me.

  7. I thought id better say hello properly, cos you be seeing me around on the notice boards. The names Matt, Im a 35 yr old bike fanatic, if its got 2 wheels and an engine im probably gonna like it! Been riding for 14 years, the ex wife made me sell my bikes to finace some rug rats so there was a 6 year gap. But as soon as the divorce was through (5 yrs ago) the bikes came back. I live on the Dutch/belgium border with my lovely cloggy woman who accepts that bikes are my first love! My daily ride is a Thunderace, my mistress is a GSXR 750RR, in the winter i ride a moped and i got a project or two (which might or might not be put back together!). I see that there is abit b…

For more years than I care to remember I always rode bikes in just jeans, leather jacket and trainers. I've had my share of offs although (touch wood) without any serious injury. All my mates dressed the same and we all fell off occassionally. I know that the older you get the longer it takes to get over the cuts, bruises and knocks. Since getting involved in motorcycle racing firstly as a marshall and for the last five years as a scrutineer I have come to appreciate the wearing of the correct gear. Having witnessed first hand crashes from 'lowly' club racers right up to GP Gods the days of jeans etc in my case are long gone. Except for travelling to work and back it…

Hi everyone, Just perusing a few posts here and there and couldnt help noticing that people posting from places in England are all flying the Union flag, and people from Wales or Scotland are patriotically flying their national flags. Had a look at changing mine to England only to find we dont exist but Wales and Scotland do! Any Ideas?

well folks, the time has come for me to think about buying a cage, within which to safely contain myself away from the bitter cold of winter, and prevent my genitals from shrinking and falling off due to frostbite. now, ive got my theory test booked for the 14th November (was the earliest saturday i could find ) and i will be fitting in practical theory tests around my RAF Training, So my thoughts have now turned to which bitchin' ride i should get. Ideally it needs to be an estate as i will be moving around a lot and need plenty of space (plus all the chavs have hot hatches and they are more expensive to insure), a decent sized engine as i will be doing lots of…

Hi all just got my first bike and was looking forward to a days riding. Only one probelem, got to dealers this morning only to find the tax disc hadn't arrive from their other place. They told me its will be OK to ride as if you get stopped the Police can see on their ANPR syetem that the bike's insured and taxed and tell them it's in the post to my house. Just got home to find its not here either, so question is can I ride without the disc on display? Thanks Colin

Oh well, got a high frequency vibe at around 7000rpm now and down around 10mph, definitely need more throttle for comparable amounts of go so looks like i'm rebuilding the TDR's top end over the winter...
