Great intro Dan, so lets see a pic of the 250 YBR and your opinions when you have it

Greetings willgree

She looks very nice Clive, is she new in the stable? Check the reed petals arent curving upward at the ends, they should be seated at the end and a small gap in the middle section. Have you checked the bulb filaments with a multimeter?
-
Could still be carb issues Clive, with a 2.5 slide cutaway it may well be very lean, theres more to it than just the 160 main jet, keep an eye on ebay you will find a carb before too long, when you do ask the seller if it is id 3U500, thats the one you want.
-
The 3J300 carb is for a 125 bike, the throttle slide cutaway is vastly different to the 175, it is 2.5 where the 175 is 1.5 for a later model. if it were me i'd be getting a 3U500 id carb

when changing down, pull in the clutch and just blip the throttle as you downshift...clunky gearchanges no more this drop from 2nd to 1st always intrigues me...i've been riding for almost 30 years and cant think of many occasions when I actually do this! 2nd gear is good enough for just about anything and 1st is only used from neutral from a standstill start, coming to rest is always 2nd to neutral then stop for me...dead smooth

looks like some fun pat, fetch it to squires and well have a blast round the campsite
-
well the toilet cleaner may have some effect by virtue of the detergent in it, however if anything that stuff may be mildly acidic to clear limescale from hard water areas caustic is a better thing to clear carbon build up...I would think a better solution (literally) would be a caustic based solution such as sink unblocker, get yourself round to aldi for a couple of bottles of 'Buster bathroom plughole unblocker' bung up the small end and fill it up with this stuff overnight, top up with hot water as necessary...follow this with the power washer and it should shift loads of crap.
-
blocked exhaust silencer? Try the vacuum cleaner test on it or clean up the small tube end and try blowing down it...should be no back pressure
-
have you looked at the chain slack and the wheel alignment indicators?
-
or if you happen to live on a hill start the bike rolling before putting it in gear
-
just WOW indeed, nice find Paul

yeah its normal kearsey, the oil is more viscous when its cold thats why it clunks
