Hi yamaha newbe Both the two prev replies say take someone experienced along to inspect the bike, i will repeat the same and add that the older they are the better, (no offence but your parents will put more faith in someone older rather than just one of your mates who know a bit). I dont blame you for wanting the bike it looks absolutely fantastic, hope it looks that good in the flesh, as it were. Ask about where it was serviced and if there are service stamps in the service book. Your parents might be worried about you wanting a bike so dont be too hard on them, try to reassure them that you will be careful and dont be a nutter when out of their sight. I'm a parent too and i was worried when my daughter started riding, but the more experience she gets the less i will worry, experience is the key to survival. Best of luck to you

No i think youve misunderstood me I know the bike has no starter motor But usually, the ignition system (Spark) is fed by the battery. If this is the case you should be able to do what i said last. However sometimes the ignition sys is powered by the alternator, if this is the case you could not test for spark as i said, because the engine has to be turning...

Sounds like its fairly safe to me, but to try to prevent unnecessary damage to said shed, I would have a sign made up to let the little thieving f**ker know how well locked and alarmed your bike is Also get a 500W halogen light shining there if thats possible

If youre checking for a spark, Turn the engine over to make sure that the points open and close properly Now turn the engine until such a point where the points are closed Remove the spark plug and connect it to the HT lead, leave it resting on cylinder head, it needs to be grounded Turn on ignition Now flick open the points using something to lift them, you dont need to turn the engine over!! Each time the points open, you should see a spark at the plug. All this assumes that the ignition on your bike works from the battery

Hope youre right, because bad points or clogged jet arent too serious. Can you turn the engine over with the kickstart and in doing so can you feel compression?

  24. Since youve only just got it, might be worth having a look at the fuel filter, as far as i know it unscrews off the bottom of fuel tap.
