Make sure your mate wraps the new loom in tape that has no adhesive Liam, he may already know this but it's best checked at this stage.
It gives the loom flexibility
could you have put the floats in upside down?
There is usually a bent piece of the brass metal that rests on one of the float pivot pillars when the level is low or empty, this stops the float from dropping too far and allowing the float needle to rock and jam in it's guide bush.
yeah Paul if its not fuel starvation it could be caused by the pod filter I suppose. What degree of throttle opening are we at? try lifting the needle one notch if it isnt the screens.
I dunno mate, They are a PITA these sealed beam things, I read on another forum about removung the bulb and rough but effective, attaching a new lamp held by silicone sealant? Its not something we suffer from over here I think.
Hmm I think only paying members have access to gallery, click on the subscription tab to see.

The stator is a general structure where all the coils are mounted, lighting, ignition charge (source) and pulser coils are all mounted there. your problem would be any one of two (obviously not lighting) they are usually tested by measuring the resistance between the relevant wire and ground (chassis) and comparing against spec. trouble is I dont know what the spec is. However you could compare against the readings from your mates stator to narrow it down
Gday Chrim, we never got those here in UK, you will get your answers on the Aussie forum, they have a sub forum of their own there.
