  1. Greetings Gillsboy, sorry i'm a bit late too..great intro sir
  2. Wont run unless on choke is a classic symptom of a blocked pilot jet, did you remove this jet and see that its clear?
  3. Aghh youre embarrassing me now so this may be harder to find than the last issue, I would stick with the carb, David you said you cleaned it and obviousy from the outcome not near well enough. The carb would be my first port of call again, a total strip including removal of the needle jet (emulsion tube) here is a dirty one from a DT175. If yours is this type take care when tapping it out of its seat. I use a pin punch of the correct size and re fitting it if I remember right it only goes in one way (locating peg?..cant remember for sure but watch out for one. The chamber that fits into has a small hole into the bottom of the carb bore (engine side) seen on this picture All jets and also the float valve need to be removed and I recommend at the very least inspecting them closely...I use a magnifying glass... Buy an aerosol carb cleaner and spray it everywhere and compressed air supply is also useful if you have the means. Only when your carb is cleaned 'as new' can you eliminate it from your power issue and move on from there. Can you not redline the bike in 2nd 3rd 4th? or close to it? Oh and about that compression test you did earlier using your neighbours finger...Not Really
  4. http://www.lincolnbig.co.uk/events/lincoln-bike-fest-2010 sod the greasy burgers you would be mad not to eat at http://www.the-laughing-buddha.co.uk/offer.htm Good food and all you can eat, my daughter is at university in Lincoln. If I can get my Bandit MOT'd this week and taxed...and given a good weather forecast I would like to come also
  5. might not need a new barrel but you'll have to take it off to see that. Perhaps the rings are gummed up in their grooves, if they are get some new rings of the correct size.
  6. Why cant the local dealer get one? are they discontinued or can't they be bothered. Manchester extreme will get you one if they are not discontinued, you will have to discuss with Owen if he could have it sent to you after you get a price. it wont be cheap I dont suppose. Didnt know you would consider a new one but hey...needs must eh?
  7. Tell me LR...in that last pic are you having a wee?
  8. Good one Paul. Thanks for the update
  9. I take it you two have met somewhere before Greetings Emma

sounds normal to me jebb, mine is like that...they just about toot the horn when fully charged. You could prove it is or is not a leakage by putting a multimeter in series to the battery. Switched to DC Amps or should I say, disconnect the fuse, touch the battery side with the + probe and the other side with the - probe and see if theres a significant current reading.
  11. Greetings Tim, love the SR500, never had one though...would love to ride one for the day How about a pic of the thumper?
  12. Greetings pino post in workshop
  13. Check there is a low resistance through the ignition coil primary to ground. Check the points are opening just before TDC
  14. Removed the carb bank and the bowls off the two offending cylinders, although the bowls were spotlessly clean the two pilots from these carbs were gunked with something. Now all is well and MOT is next job
  15. Greetings Joe she's a real beauty I am gobsmacked how cheaply you guys seem to pick up these old classics $200 for a runner in fair condition
  16. without wishing to get into any discussions about idiots, jetting bigger certainly wont do any harm so if you want to feel at ease with your new pipes...go for it.

Does it feel lumpy Steve? Its a 4 cylinder yes? Touch all the exhaust headers with a wet rag...do you get a hiss on all of them or is a cylinder not running correct? ...Paul
  18. Sounds like muck or water in the carb to me too, have you just filled the tank by any chance?
  19. Good one David, to clean a carb properly the very least you should have is an aerosol carb cleaner. Better still a compressed air line and an ultrasonic cleaning bath. Pay particular attention to the pilot jet and the choke circuit, really it should have started up fine on the choke and ran on that alone! Empty the bowl and drizzle gas into the choke tube and see if the fuel runs out of the little hole into the bowl. Also check the gasket is intact around the choke tube, if its broken the choke wont work. Hoping for good news soon.
  20. no its the float valve that does this, crap in the float valve or even wear can be the culprit even if the float height is correct
  21. you have told us the fuelling is good, the spark is good so now its a compression issue, thats it...end of the line unless of course fuelling and or spark isnt good Oh and check the filter..is it disintegrating? could some of it be jamming the reed valve?
  22. Dont despair David, you'll get there in the end, you need to check the compression, maybe the piston rings are 'frozen' or the crank seals passing
  23. Can you get hold of a compression test gauge, you need to see around 100 psi
