  1. Greetings James. is there some slack in the cable? did you use bike specific oil? how about an intro in new members forum?
  2. Thats a bit of a coincidence Steve eh?...sure it's not just air? you wouldn feel any pressure
  3. blackhat had it
  4. Morning Gordo, I reckon a new coil would work wonders too, also perhaps a new HT cap the ones with a little rubber seal at both ends (NGK)
  5. is the sring retainer at the top of the spring still attached securely to the valve? you say the top of the spring moves up but you dont say the valve is moving! The usual arrangement is a couple of collets holding that top spring retainer, they sit in a groove around the valve. If they have come out you wont be using the bike any time soon I dont think
  6. Great intro brooksie a pic of the XS cafe would have rounded it off nicely
  7. Hey Dave welcome to the fold, bought your bike early eh? you'll never sleep. Nice intro by the way and yes...good luck with the DA
  8. Greetings Cameron best kit for starters would be a workshop manual eh? is she in bad shape then?
  9. Greetings Tim Good choice have fun and take care ...Paul
  10. Greetings Dave Try wemoto for general stuff Try Fowlers of Bristol for new stuff like panels if they are not obsolete dont discount ebay though ...Paul
  11. and on the next TDC?
  12. Then it is still on the cam! so turn your engine...at some point there should be a gapp appears. I suggest you trawl the manual for correct positioning, that mark on the cam sprocket isnt there for nothing...it should be positioned somewhere or align with a static mark
  13. Dont foget...that's Dad's setting so long as his old ticker can stand it Have fun
  14. Haha
  15. Then adjust it, unscrew it until there is the right clearance, you will have to look in the manual what the line on the chain ring means it may have to be at the top in alinment with the centre of the clinder or something, any how it should be in the manual how to check and set clearances, this could be why you had no compression
  16. so is the exhaust valve stuck open all the time or have you seen it moving while you turned the motor?
  17. The PV motor will only align the 'U' and the hole after these events in this order 1: Engine has been running and stopped by turning key OFF 2: Key is turned back to ON now the motor will set the pulley to full open the PV. its ok to turn off the key now and adjust the cables for alignment
  18. The black plastic is the PV pulley. Positiion the PV so that the top is perfectly flush at the top, The 'U' shaped pulley should now align with the blind 4mm hole in the cyl head casting Do whatever is required to achieve this...ie unbolt the pulley and fit in this position if neccesary. Re fit cables with just a little slack.
  19. toknaboot
  20. But the valve will be open at TDC on the exhaust stroke, turn the engine to the next TDC. The valves are only both closed every other TDC (I think) Also it looks like the timing chain is slack...maybe it has jumped and the timing is out now well have to see.
  21. 'Toknaboot' chris
  22. Greetings jodam Thats some great adventures you did there, when... what on?
  23. If you do it by the elec start but your plug in the cap and make sure it is well earthed and out of the way of your hand. Its no fun getting a belt from 1000's of volts at the back of my mind is the possibility your cam chain has jumped the teeth on the cogs so you lost compression perhaps...just a thought!
  24. Greetings Ric yeah not familiar with the model
  25. yeah I said ages ago it seemed to spinning a bit too freely on the starter. so then take the plug out is it possible to get a seal with your thumb over the hole, operate the kickstart (key off) and the compression should blow past your attempt to seal it.
