Err Its the neutral switch thats the issue...clearly the stand switch works!!

Yeah I can see your problem gar.. Looks like the pipes pass under the motor so they would have to be removed to lift the engine onto a high enough stand (with help of course) ? Yeah I know...That just adds work Taking forks off isnt just everyday common activity...why?

I dont believe that the side stand should kill the engine when in neutral! I would look into the neutral light cct

you only need gentle pressure to go from 2 to N, like I said before , personally I think the new oil and a clutch that may benefit from adjusting are the problem

Point is though, It's easier to select neutral from 2nd with the bike in motion

I needs a bit of a ride before you can state that smoking is an issue, you've only just built it after all! I assume that you checked and re-fitted any seals on the valves when you fitted them

It should get better with a bit of use Grouch, check you havent put too much in though. Perhaps you will get netral better while you are coming to a stop but not yet stopped it's always easier like that IMO theres never any value at all in going to 1st before stopping either on 2 wheels or 4. It's also possible because you use your bike a lot that you have by now a little clutch plate wear and so adjusting the clutch at the clutch may help
