  1. Thanks dirtydt yeah she's looking good, not been out yet I've spent a lot of time getting her sorted so I had to take the mrs out she's been stuck in all weekend. I'm hoping the weather holds and I can get out a few evenings this week but it maybe from wednesday, I've also put a 26mm carb on so I'm tinkering with jetting at the moment. yeah eddie I took the plunge in the end after a bad experience ascending a bloody steep hill (wynatts pass) in Derbyshire in June, got some horrendous pinking and watched the temperature gauge indication fairly rocket in short order! and I'm pretty sure the jetting was right at that time so maybe the offset squish was the culprit after all?
  2. It's done IT175 head, heas a better combustion area Cant wait to get out!
  3. Time to start asking on ebay ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Locksmith-Schlage-Lock-Lever-Installation-Removal-Tool-For-Leverset-Castle-Nuts-/330993308582?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d10bd13a6#ht_284wt_958 for size reference http://www.ebay.com/itm/Schlage-AL-D-series-lever-Castle-Nut-installation-removal-tool-40-017-/300954021094?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item461241ece6#ht_311wt_917
  4. 'Lean' means not enough gas in the fuel/air mixture. If an engine runs lean it overheats and if it's very lean it gets so hot...it's burns a hole through the piston crown and you lose all compression. The size of the main jet is stamped into it, for your bike they are in increments of 5, for example only...If you find you main jet is #120 the next sizes bigger are #125 and #130. Air leaks can cause lean running as well as a MJ too small, splits/cracks in the inlet manifold...loose screws...broken gaskets...leaking crank seal (left side) are all possibilities of potential air leaks, it's no use jetting bigger than the makers original spec to compensate for leanness caused by an air leak!
  5. check the flywheel nut is tight? it may be a bit loose and sheared the woodruff key?
  6. my 175 will do 70 if I cane it but it's more comfortable at 65...I wont do it for long stretches though it seems a bit risky and I dont trust modern ethanol fuels!...I have one more tooth on the front sprocket to raise the gearing slightly
  7. This talk of a charge rate 2.3A ? it's gonna vary and without a regulator to hold the peak voltage somewhere what I'm trying to say here is the charge rate will be a ratio of the voltage, so cap the Volts and you'll cap the Amps ?
  8. Hmmm, I said to connect it to the AC side because it's an AC regulator, it wont work on DC
  9. yes if you can find them a 175 convert is easy
  10. morning Tom, first check the exhaust header, you may find a sleeve in there that you can take the dremel cutting disc to. Yes the 175 barrel and head will fit straight on. Also some of the early bikes had a 22mm carb but it would go better with the 24mm version fitted
  11. The barrels at the borers, pick up friday saturday it's off to the aqua blasters and then to work for a respray I'm waiting for a set of rings to end on ebay, got a new piston and pin and small end if it all goes exceptionally well she'll be back together next week when the rings arrive ...hopefully
  12. mick adjust the cable adjuster so that when the throttle is closed the marker 'pip' on the pulley aligns with the peg stopper in the plunger shaft
  13. I hope you can get it all sorted and turn up for the big event that would be great,
  14. nice one dirtydt, they were a bit keen this year eh? wow you got that skimming done in record time will she be putting an appearance in at squires?
  15. Greetings SF yep we love the old DT bikes here
  16. yes i've got it now, like I said..try it without the filter foam fitted
  17. great news mate, get some coppaslip on those exhaust bolts eh
  18. no you hold it still with the clutch tool you may have to bend back a locking tab washer before you can get your socket on But 'Hey Alex' why do you need to disassemble the clutch centre? cant you get at the broken screw with some mole grips and simply unscrew it? Glad to see you benefitted from this thread toutsuite
  19. It was only idling at the time, I was just waiting to pull out of a junction luckily, thanks for the good wishes dt
