  1. maybe one of the coils is knackered- gives these kinds of symptoms.
  2. like many yamahas, it probably needs you to use 'special damper tool' to undo the bolt that holds the caboodle together. I haven't done it for years, but you can hold it to undo the allen key underneath the fork using a piece of dowel (9mm or 12mm maybe) instead. It needs to be long enought hat you can tap it into place with a hammer. google around for a workshop manual, they are out there on the cyberweb
  3. happy birthday chaps, 'head & 'hat!

    Dawn Porter

i have to say i found the program she did on Lezzie Love, very educational and poignant. .....or just rather fruity!!!
  5. jim, i just watched them.... no surprises really, i live on one of the toughest estates in Bristol and other than the accents, it could be here. Far too much dole, if these people had to work to survive they would either be very different or would not exist. i love how either everything is either someone else's fault or they are ill (depression, brought about by a life with no purpose)- cancer victim aside. I see they have all got nicely decorated homes with the latest TV - you and i are paying for that. The worst bit though is the slapper who is pregnant, sits and explains it so nonchalantly (as she doesn't have to pay for the kid, we do) whilst puffing on a fag...the poor unborn sprog will have an addictive personality even before it learns of it's dubious parentage and the joys of a buckfast-irn bru cocktail!

    yzf 750 brakes

i think they will require some light filing. I fitted gold-spots to my fzr1000 (which has similar/the same forks) and had to do some filing for them to go on. When you do this check the contact patch of the pad on the disk carefully, as you may need to allow a clearance for the bobbins on the disk. good luck
  7. there are a number of companies that specialise in this, but they will not be cheap (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nationwide-transport-MOTORBIKES-MOTORCYCLES-SCOOTERS-/290430821058?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_localservices_courier_delivery_GL&hash=item439f06a2c2#ht_4321wt_947)! do you know anyone with a car with a towbar and trailer (big enough for a bike, maybe partly disassembled)? its gonna be maybe £160-200 in petrol/diesel for a typical car, return, towing. Near you may be a man-with-a-van, again probably won't be cheap. Another possibilty might be to phone a local mixed-haulier and see if they do any runs to cornwall, and might be able to find space for you bike.
  8. i'm now riding a XJ6n after years of (mainly) riding an FZR1000 and a few people i have spoken to assume i am a novice or basicly clueless. There is a culture amongst some riders and non-riders that not riding a superbike/hyperbike indicates some kind of inferiority. It's a bit like the concept that people who drive shiny new cars must be wealthy, but behind the masquerade they might be in a pile of debt or just leasing it. It's a funny old world!
  9. please re-read my post above, i am prepared to come to your place of business and look at what you are offering - how is that negative?
  10. ok, fair enough - however, you post the address for your business up here and i will personally visit (anywhere in the UK) and report back to this forum with details of the companies you have been contracted by, as well as the potential for profit for those who work with you.
  11. the 500LC and the 500 gamma are the nearest any bike has ever been to a GP bike and probably ever will be. a bike i would truly love to own.

    givi luggage

um, it doesn't look like it, compare: http://www.givi.co.uk/My-motorcycle/?ma=YAMAHA&mo=YZF-1000-Thunder-Ace-96--00 and http://www.givi.co.uk/My-motorcycle/?ma=YAMAHA&mo=FZ1-1000-06--09 look at the pannier pdfs, they look quite different. The type of givi/kappa box they fit is also different.

    TRX 850

for general engine related stuff, i strongly suggest you join the carpe-tdm forum (google it) as they know lots about that particular engine.
  15. btw fz6r is the american/canadian name for the xj6 equivalent.
  16. a lot of what is available is a bit naff i think. Did you know that the engine is the same as the 03-05 R6? lots of guys in the USA have got R6 exhausts to go (and things like race carbon fibre engine covers!) on to the XJ6. funnily enough i got micron R6 header pipes (the serpent type) for £50 new at George Whites on the weekend and a micron gp race-can (for a GSXR1000 05) for £50. Good thing is i think i can make it work - though i do need to get a lambda boss tig-welded on. So look at 03-05 R6 exhausts too, there is loads on the fz6r forum - google it. mervyn
  17. Good stuff Jim. Well at work (i'm a teacher) i put loads of Crosses of St. George up around the part of the school i work in (as i always do) and it was 100% well received. Occasionally people say that it has facist connatations (idiot lefty, pc types)and my response is they have deeply offended me - it's great watching them backtrack or try to excuse themselves. I once had someone did try to educate me and tell me St.G. was turkish, which of course i already knew, i then proceeded to tell them that most Saints were appropriated by those who most valued their actions and shocked them by telling them St. Patrick was British (probably English, from Cumberland), and laughed when they didn't believe me. God Bless England and all her friends and Allies.
  18. there a couple of guys on exup1000.co.uk, who might sell you an ecu. To me it sounds like worn needle jets (this family of bike suffer from them wearing out). What happens is the needle rattles in the bore of the jet, and as the jet is brass wears it into an oval, this results in over-fueling, giving the symptoms you are indicating. The other thing it could be, happened to me with my FZR1000 was a coil breaking down, it would test good, run ok at certain revs but fail at middle revs, under load (that was a pig to diagnose). Trouble is it sounds like your mechanic has looked at all this stuff, so who knows?

    GOFF

yes, have a good one, Goff!
  20. if the bike has electronic ignition, then yes you should be able to (some even run 'off' of the HT lead (via induction)). Wjhat you need be sure is that the product you are buying is suitable for single cylinder motorcycles and for use with 2 strokes. Most either take a signal from the wire connected to the rev counter or they connect to the ground of the coil and detect the ripple of the coil firing.
  21. you might find you need to phone allens and speak to them, i doubt they list everything just parts they sell regularly.
  22. http://www.fowlers.co.uk/parts/?kw=motorcycles%20spares&fl=462556&ci=4214650020&network=s&gclid=CN_ywdO4_qACFROElAod0SOxuQ be aware motorcycle plastics are not cheap, and any paint etc will be extra. There may be someone near you who does motorcycle body repairs relatively cheaply (able to repair damage etc). If there are just scratches it might be better to leave it!
