  1. no choke to start = very likely to be emulsion tubes, which is very typical of these bikes. The carbs fitted to them are a pain in the arse. Be prepared for a lot of work if you do it yourself. Be prepared to pay lots to someone else if you pay them with limited results. Best to tackle it yourself, be methodical and become very knowledgeable about Mikuni Down-draught Constant Velocity carburettors.
  2. Now showing on BBC1, on the better side of the border!
  3. blimey that bump was a bit quick. On the flat-spot issue, i'd say it's quite likely to be worn emulsion tubes. Does it start without choke? google exup1000 for more model specific stuff. GL
  4. Helicoil: find a local bike mech or auto-engineer. Helicoil means no tear-down.
  5. Running XJ6 no. 2 in, booorrirrriiiiiigggg

  6. Happy Birthday Blackhat250 / John Have a gone one pal
  7. ii think like many middle-sized 4 cylinder bikes, they do a tendency to be a bit buzzy. Check the footpeg mounts are correctly tightened-up. You could get the carbs balancing checked, might have some effect. I just think it is a trait of this model. I never found it to be too much of an issue, the buzz-band being quite narrow so i just tend to ride around it. If it really frustrates you may have to consider a different bike. check the linky in my signature too....
  8. Glad your DIY effort is working out. I had the Yam flyscreen on my xj6n, it was very, very good at deflecting the wind over me (8 hour days on the autobahn/autostrada/m-way at 85mph bears testament to that). The quality of it however was not that good though. I'm generally not into manufacturer accessories, but it was worth every penny.
  9. i had a quick look on the ermax / motoevolution site [the makers of this cover [i think]] its listed as graphite, why not give Ermax a call they would know for certain or would probably email you colour-sample pictures to match up.
  10. Bloody hell, i live in a rough part of bristol [which, touch-wood has seen much less bike thefts in the last 3/4 years] and i am surprised you are experiencing problems in Kingskerswell, it always looks quite quiet to me.
  11. hmm, interesting one. The unfaired version i had previously had 'silver' seat side-panels, whereas the 'S' version i now have has colour-matched panels. Can you post up a photo, might help. btw thanks for the link that is a ruddy good price. also check out the linky in my sig Thunor.
  12. NEV, no problem, after i posted it i wondered if it might be mis-interpreted. The guy was just so funny, he had no idea of how to handle himself professionally or socially. It was nothing to do with his illness, just his idiosyncrasies. She did manage to show him how to handle himself in the end, he was motivated by his daughter getting employment and got himself a job.
  13. Definitely not having a go at diabetes, far from it. If you were interviewed and asked what your weaknesses were, you'd trot out the 'never leave work on time', 'do to much' etc, whatever it takes to get the job. At no point would a medical ailment be something either given in the answer or expected by the interviewer. It was just he didn't know what to say and for some obscure reason felt that was appropriate to say. To be fair he had no idea what to say or how to act at interview until she had pointed him in the right direction and bore no relation to any illness he had. I found it funny for the reason that it was a totally outlandish answer that was not what i (or she was expecting), if it caused offence well i apologise, i don't find diabetes funny.
  14. I live in South Bristol, can't stand City though, Gas through-and-through.
  15. I'm still top-of-the-league people, come on i'm getting bored up here!
  16. Watching this now on C4. The Fairy Jobmother was doing a mock interview with a middle-aged, long-term unemployed fellow: Fairy jobmother: What is your biggest weakness? [the bit in an interview where you respond to the interviewer by saying that your weakness is going to work to early, taking work home, enjoying meetings; the usual bull] Middle-aged fellow: My biggest weakness, hmm, my sugar diabetes. I laughed myself silly, sugar diabetes, wtf?
  17. +1, sadly you have baought a screen which integrates into a fairing rather than a flyscreen. Package it back up and send it back. Both your Yam dealer and Givi do a nice flyscreen for the unfaired XJ6N. GL
  18. If the design is finalised with squires in mind, can some one email it to me. That way i can design the 2011 Squire's Key Ring to match.
  19. Have a good one Vez, see you at Squire's.
  20. Floyd, make sure you go to the newbies section and do a full intro...we like the noobs to do this. As for your problem, i'd sy 90% that is a TPS fault. Loads of Yamahas do this is to show either the TPS [throttle position sensor] is either out of calibration or is faulty. Don't worry that is anything to stop you using it - it's just one less signal for the ECU to read and make adjustments too. This would also link to the hiccup you are experiencing, though that could be something else. HTH
  21. I agree with Dirty, you really need 'agreed value' on this. Here's an example, one of my mates is storing someone elses streetfighter a Yamasuki GSXR/Bandit/R1 hybrid. The value of it to the 'guy on the street' is £2000k tops. It's a good in places and utter rubbish in others. The guy who built it though had a one off shock mount made, which mates the R1 swingarm to the GSXR1100 frame, which is multi-adjustable and shiny (maybe cost £600-700). The whole bike looks like it has cost a lot (the guy who built it reckons £15000, i think maybe £8-£9k). If he has standard bike insurance, even if he declares the mods he would get 'guy on the street' book value £2Kish. If he has agreed value, which will require haggling when the policy is started [maybe proof of reciepts, def. photos], he will get the Streetfighter value, between 7K-15K [or whatever).
  22. Yellow tape on the North American version of the bike [if that's any use to you?]
  23. The R6 downpipes that fit are from the 03-05 model. They require a limited amount of denting to clear the bikes sump [not visible once fitted]. Lots of stuff has been done to the exhausts of these machines now. There are a few options: -Mod the stadard system; everything from what you have done, to chopping the cat/silencer off and welding up. -Replacing with R6 headers and generic can, something i did on my first XJ6 and will look to do again on the one i have just bought. -'end can'; £150-£270 will buy a small can that bolts on to the exit of existing system and sits [typically] near the peg bracket. -Full systems; from £500 ebay.it for a termignoni to £1200+ for carbon TBR etc. The last is easily the best option, but very, very expensive. Of course 1 and 4 really require the fuelling to be checked and modified and for the O2 sensor to be neutered. HTH
