Simple checks: Trapped petrol pipes [pinching when the tank is refitted?]. Blocked fuel tank breathers. Coils knackered -check impedances and check for arcing to the frame. Does the bike have fresh fuel - stale fuel can do give these symptoms with bigger four cylinder engines. For me it's likely one or both of the first two, particularly as the bike has a non-standard tank position. HTH

Both of my XJ6s got 45-55mpg. With 70mpg @ 70mph on the motorway [did dover to bristol on one tank].

My advice is to visit the yzf125r forums where a few have done similar mods for no-gains (in some cases a reduction in performance). I certainly wouldn't want to lighten the flywheel on a 4T 125cc bike, the flywheel is sized carefully to mix pick-up and smoothness. Good luck with it if ou do all this stuff.

Take a book or a magazine in case you get rained in all day in your tent. This has happened to me a few times. A small, cheap MP3 player loaded with music or downloaded radio shows and a book can really keep boredom at bay and let you really relax. I also use a 3-man tent - they cost little more than 2-man, but give you more room to get your bike kit on and off if it is damp. I also have Worth every penny.

if you haven't already got a flyscreen, get one worth every penny on the XJ6N. i'd personally go for the genuine yamaha item (ebay might have some), as it works well.

Welcome to the forum. Yes the FZ6R (north america) and the XJ6 are the same (barring minor differences). Yamahas ongoing recycling of the XJ monicker (since '79) and FZ designation (since '85) does cause some confusion but you get to figure the details out as you go. If a part is advertised to fit an FZ6R 2009 onwards it will fit. That exhaust does look like it fits - if possible join the FZ6R forum (google it) as the americans over there are all into 2Br exhausts. Also see my sig.....

Do you even need new shoes (no jokes)? If if it feels weak, whip the shoes out, if there is still plenty of meat on them remove any glaze with some wet'n'dry paper.

Bikesure are often amongst the cheapest brokers, so with a discount could be very cheap indeed.

Decent list (personally ouldn't have BCRs, but hey each to their own] Why not use radio downloader (google it) and just listen to Pick of the Pops and Sounds of the 60s? both shows were good today. At least that way you get an element of the unexpected. Look alright to me, just don't buy those cheap chinese discs on ebay - they are utter rubbish (no need to guess how I know ) A tip with disc locks - always park facing a wall etc, so that you have to wheel the bike backwards: no chance of riding off with the disc-lock left on.

To check if a chain at the end it's adjustment can safely be shortened, pull the link which is touching the rear sprocket halfway around the run (imagine a line extending from the swingarm, and the link that this line intersects). If that link can visibly be pulled away from the sprocket, then provided the chain has the correct amount of slack it is knackered (rollers are worn-out). How much slack does your bike run? Are sure you are not running it too tight and this accelerating the wear-rate? What are you lubing with? I've seen chains as tight as bow strings and people lubing with WD40 in my time!!

Yam really balls-up the timing-chain tensioner on that version..... When you say fuel-maps, do you mean PC maps? if yes, and you have had probs, best to remove your PC and get it out of the loop (and maybe eliminate it), some of map files on the dynojet site are reported to be duff. Also due to the big-bangs 'lumpy compression' characteristic, you may find the cpR1 starts better with a little bit of throttle, the reason is that it bleeds a little air in and reduces the additional load [vacuum-demand] on the starter. not sure if the above helps - good luck.
