FZR 1000 Sliders
Try these. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-FZR1000-FZR-1...1QQcmdZViewItem If not, you might find Thunder ace or Yzf750 ones might fit. You need to check the mounting points and may need to cut a bit of fairing though. Good luck......

Cat "D" write off
Does any one know what the implications of insuring a bike that is recorded as a category "D" write off. The bike has been repaired and no inspection / police visit has been necessary. How does one value it, and what happens if its stolen / written off again, how do they sort the claims value?

Fazer 1000 or fazer 600
Sounds like the more realistic route, Fazer 600 will be more than enough for a while and not as much of a handfull to thow around being a lot lighter and a bit more nimble. If you have bought one at this time of year and keep her in good condition, just make sure you sell on when its nice and sunny during a long summer and you wont loose that much money, there will always be another "you" with a pocket full of cash and a nice shiny photocard to take her off your hands! enjoy. good luck.

FZR Exup RU thou 1991 ( UK Chassis Numbers )
Send a fax to : YAMAHA MOTOR (UK)LTD SOPWITH DRIVE BROOKLANDS WEYBRIDGE SURREY KT13 0UZ FAX: 01932 358024. I had one of these, and a later fox eye one before being tempted by the dark side, (`93 Fireblade......still got it) Check the headlamp dip (to the left) and that clocks are MPH if that is all ok, then don`t worry too much. Check the log book to see Date first registered and date registered in the uk, if different, then it was imported 2nd hand. if the same it is either a gen. uk bike or was imported new. I believe all europe models have the same chassis number prefixes, it is the model code under the seat on the subframe that designates a uk bike. Values and issues relating to a bike of this age are not really affected by being an "import" or "genuine" uk bike. As it is already 16 years old, the most important things are how it runs and how it looks. You are unlikely to get anything like a full story unless you are buying it from the original and only owner. Make sure it has a genuine set of headers and collector, with the Exup valve working. 20 valve motors do not respond well to ham fisted after market tinkering in the exhaust department. `91 exups are great mile munchers, and were the hot poop of their day, till things like the MkI `blade turned up. This is the bike that evolved into the Thunder Ace which was of course totally eclipsed by the R1 in 1998. A well serviced and set up RU will still be devistating in a straight line, there is as we all know, no substitute for cubes when it comes to power delivery, but You will find it not as nimble as your old GSXR. the suspension, although good in its day, will undoubtedly be in need of some tlc, and or complete overhaul / replacement depending on how you like your bike to handle. If it looks tidy, runs smoothly and is rattle free, has decent tyres and chain etc, and passes your own personal quality control checks........buy it, ride it, enjoy it, they are an awfull lot of bike for the money they change hands at these days.

Rattle on tick over
More likely to be cam chain tensioner. they go quieter once the revs rise as faster chain speed throws a bigger arc and takes up the slack. Get some one who`s good to have a listen before too many more miles, if whatever it is lets go it could be very costly once its gone totally tits up. And you do not want it to let go at 13000 revs!

Crash Bang Wallop!
Two weeks on from the rude awakening and EQUITY RED STAR, who were the unlucky insurance co. covering both myself fully comp AND the driver of afformentioned Hyundai, have agreed to a no fault claim, so MY ncb and excess are intact and ALL costs are being laid against the car drivers policy......... So, once the engineer has agreed to write the R1 off (frame damage) I should be able to report the acquisition of my brand new steed................Hmmm choices Wach this space!

jumped outta gear twice now?
Had a similar problem on 06 R1, only did it a couple of times at cadwell quick shifting under hard acceleration. I found the shift rod adjuster was a bit loose, adjusted it up and loctited the rod threads and its never done it again. Try checking the shift lever and linkages, also try setting the lever slightly lower, so that you can get a bit more leverage on it when toeing it quickly.

BIG BIKES FOR LITTLE EXPERIENCE
Passed my test at 17, when all you had to do was not fall off for 20 minuites. Had one "OFF" on the way to a race meet at Snetterton in 1975 (fellow rider clipped the front wheel of my commando on a roundabout) my next one was last April when a chav in a blacked out peugeot diddnt give way on a roudabout. 1 non fault accident every 32 years I could live with, but the bas74&ds got me again this february. Just goes to show, yopu can have all the experience in the world, from all round the world, but you cannot get awawy with it for ever.

Help with CBT and Standard Motorcycle A2 Licence
If you did not tick the box on your licence application form for motorcycle provisional entitlement you will not have it. now you have a full car licence, there is no automatic motor cycle entitlement, you have to do full cbt, theory and practical, but you can do none of these without provisional motorcycle entitlement. check you paper counterpart, but i suspect it will not show it. there is a section immediately below your name and address that shows PROVISIONAL ENTITLEMENT. if it does not show category A you aint got it. The pictures on the back of your pink photocard are (car) = group "B" cars, my also have "BE" car and trailer. and the picture of a van is for commercial vehicles up to 3.5Tonne MGW. (transits / sprinters etc) = group C1 if in doubt go to http:// www.dvla.gov and navigate to provisional entitlement in the drivers licencing section. Best bet is to find a local M/C training firm, go in and see them with all your licence bits. they will know exactly where you stand. If they cannot provide you with a definative answer on the spot, you are looking for a new training firm! (next bit below for anyone in similar position who is a bit older) If you re over 21, when you apply for provisional motorbike entitlement, ask for trucks and busses at the same time, it wont cost you any more, but if you want to drive any bigger than 3.5T mgw in the future you will already have it. (you have to be over 21 for 3.5T+ these days) also if over 21, consider direct access, it may be a more drawn out route, but once done you will have full etitlement straight away. What ever yoou are planning DO IT NOW! before the eurosuits feck it all up!. all changes again 1st October this year. Get on with it young man, or you will being passed by the pipe and slipper old gits like me for the rest of your life! good luck. D.

exhausts
Check out any of the well known brands web sites. make sure you go for a removeable baffle road legal pipe, so you dont have mot / plod problems and take it steady in a high gear going through built up areas. You don`t want to attract the attention of the fun police mildly tuned end cans for your model tend not to upset the fueling too much, take note of the manufacturers information and head any advice they give. you should be fine with the baffle in anyway, and will still sound better than a standard can, and weigh a lot less too. once you have done your web reserch, consider buying the same can used on the web, I have just sourced a pair of yoshies and link pipes with the de-cat ypiece included for a 2006 R1,for under £300, and now they are fitted cannot be distinguished fron my mates 6 month / 2000 miles new set that cost him the thick end of £800! good luck.
