help
Sounds like PILOT jet problems. and or carb balancing (or if it did it in very cold weather might even be carb icing) If your bike has had any modifications (filters, cans dynojet etc) ham fisted carburettor stripping and rebuilding can seriously upset the balance of your setup. as can blocked jets, badly set needle heights or incorrectly set float heights. What is it like at tickover, (lumpy , coughing, stalling ? smokey?) and what REVS does it start to run ok at ? (as opposed to road speed, which depends on what GEAR you are in) If you are not a proficient mechanic, getting it right will be next to impossible. Suggest you get it looked at by someone good with carbs, who should be able to get you running smoothly. You might want to check the HT leads as well, if the caps or connections are loose you could be getting misfires at low revs that cure themselves as you go faster when the sparks generated are a bit fatter (but it is usually the other way round, getting worse as you go faster). Get the bike in for a full service and you will probably be ok

UK registrations
What you have to remember with the GB system (not UK as Northern Ireland does it`s own thing) is that a staandard year letter plate is issued according to the date of FIRST registration as a new vehicle. So you can get older year machines 1st registered later than they were actually made or imported. You can transfer a number indicating an OLDER age to your vehicle, but CANNOT transfer a number to a vehicle that would make it appear to be younger than it actually is. (based on it`s original date of first registration.) TO Mervin...........The reg list you posted is good, but remember that when the "six month" issue scheme was introduced on 1st March 1999.(T) the subsequent date changes Were changed from August to September Making "V" 1st Sept 99 to 28 Feb `00 and so on until the Year NUMBER style started on 1st September 2001 "51".

which tires
Bearing in mind tyres are the most subjective part of any bike, one mans meat / another mans poison etc. Its all down to experience and what "feels" right. If you do more touring / commuting than scratching, then BT021`s are probably more suited to your needs. On a 600 you could run a whole year on a set. Thundercats are very sensitive to correct tyre pressures, especially the front, so check your pressures at least once a week, or more frequently at this time of year as the outside temperature going up and down daily can seriously affect the readings. I personally prefer Dunlops and "Qualifiers" are good on 600`s offering reasonable durability with Quck warm up. I`ve used them all year round on a CBR600 including a trip to the Nurburgring, and got about 4000 out of the back one. currently running a pair on my R1 and they are fine on the road but overheat on the track. Yer pays yer money and makes yer choice!

V55/5 is the form needed to register a vehicle for th first time, or re register post accident, or personally import a used vehicle. Hey, wheres England?
Hmmmm............... It would appear , on closer inspection, that the only place the George cross and Estonia are ACTUALLY linked, is on THIS forum As the actual Estonian flag is somewhat different, being like the format of the Dutch and German flags, but in Blue, Black and White! Still, dosn`t stop us being twinned, does it

registering a rebuilt bike
So long as the frame is the original DVLA can trace the first reg date and index number. You only need the frame(original or new)and two of the following........Engine, Forks, Gearbox, or Wheels. So long as are unmodified you will be ok for age related plate.

registering a rebuilt bike
Are you in "Rainbow" or the uk? IF uk....... Have you got the original registration number? If you have do a M.C.N. vehicle enquiry and see what it comes back as. Once you Know how (if ) the bike is recorded, you will know how to proceed. Cat C and D are the only vehicles you can re register. If you do not have the original log book you will need to apply for a new one (www.DVLA.gov). if you can show the machine is substantially the same as on its original registration, you should get an age related plate, (not a Q ) http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Buyin...icle/DG_4022486 How to register a rebuilt, radically altered vehicle and kit car : Directgov - Motoring This should give you all the info you need, and/or go to your local police station and ask for someone from TRAFFIC. They are usually realy helpfull. Good luck...D.

Hey, wheres England?
Hi OGOAB, just use the George cross from estonia, it is the same Take your point though, recently filled a form in for new employer and could have ticked any one of a dozen or so boxes for ethnicity. four shades of black, five kinds of asian, various other skin tones of indeterminate origin and under "white" I only had the choice of EUROPEAN, SCOTTISH, WELSH, or OTHER I wrote ENGLISH right across the page, and they got the right hump and said I would have to fill another form in.................... I didn`t get the job, Iam pleased to say!

V Piece mystery.
Ebay item 280197153018 Looks like a MkI `97 -`98 4XV R1 fairing V piece. This will go no-where near an R6 of any model year. Best thing is to advertise on the forum here and bang it back on ebay to try and mitigate your original costs. This is a common problem with sellers on ebay, who are not as tuned into a specific market, or when numberplate year letters are used to identify a bikes age, rather than the actual model year etc. CAVEAT EMPTOR....as they say.

Guests
Never even noticed who`s online or Guests etc, I just relate to the users actually posting, all the rest can get on with doing thier own thing...not doing me any harm. On British slang........... Never mind Peabody,"me old CHINA PLATE", If you ever get stuck with rhyming slang, you can get on the "DOG AND BONE" to check it out. What you have to remember is that most R.S. is reduced to just one of the words, so that your MATE, is your CHINA (see above) And that the telePHONE is the "DOG" You have to be careful though, as some slang in common use has a masking effect on the real nature of what is being said. eg, "he`s lost his BOTTLE, or has no BOTTLE, is actually refering to ones ability to endure something without making a mess in their pants (shorts to you, undergarments) It comes from BOTTLE AND GLASS, which rhymes with arse etc which is also why ones rear end is known as an ARRIS, which is short for ARISTOTLE --BOTTLE......... And then some slang has no rhyme or reason, other than its just in common use. most terms can be traced back to something meaningful, although most people you ask will not know or care where the terms they use originate. Oh, just a warning, If you ever come over the pond, remember NOT to call anyone a BERK, especially in London. You just might Offend the wrong person, and end up with a slap

Road Fund Licence RANT
Geoff, I understand where you are comming from, but my missus, altho a lover of being on a bike, is the only person I know who has ever FAILED her CBT. Absolutely NO sense of balance Plus she has an injured neck which restricts her left arm movement, so needs an auto car. Also takes patients out in the car, so needs a boot for wheelchairs etc. She fell off the push bike I bought her and will not try again. I still think the Govt. has F*£ked up on car tax, the older cars with bigger engines need hitting a bit otherwise where is the incentive to upgrade?

FIGURE THIS. We are told by HMG and all the Greenies that the internal combustion engine (only invented 120 years ago or so) is going to kill the whole planet and we will all drown unless we use it less or at least use smaller more efficient ones. I have succummed to pressure from `er indoors to replace her ice cap melting Y2000 Vauxhall Omega 2500 V6 Auto (you don`t see many of those in the green peace car park) with something slightly more in keeping with her needs: ie 6 mile run to work each way and a bit of shopping at the weekend. So I ditched the Omega and replaced it with a Y2003 1.6 Astra, thinking I was going to be showered with praise and receive a tickertape parade when I went to tax it.......... WRONG It is DEARER to tax a newer more fuel efficient 1.6 than a ageing 2.5 V6 £185 for the 16 to a gallon tarmack rippling 2 tonne plannet killer £210 for the lighter smaller 1.6 tree hugger

Rattle on tick over
Right what you do now is buy some new oil (try a slightly thicker grade) and a filter, take the bike out at the weekend and get it really hot. A tankfull at full chat should do it Get back home, change the oil and filter, (mind you don`t burn your hands) then run it up, if it was anything a bit sticky that will probably cure it, if makes no difference, at least you`e got you oil sorted for the summer I`ll get me coat

Back in the saddle
At first I thought you would be ok to just jump on and go..........It`s just like riding a bike, you never forget But the the fact you`ve doubted yourself enough to post the question in the first place, would lead me to think it is a good idea to do some sort of refresher course http://www.bikesafe.co.uk/ follow the link for your area, not only do you get free help and advise, you get to meet the local traffic police, tou might just need a friendly face next time you get stopped
