The black / white goes to kill switch on R/h side, its the ignition/ coil ground. this kills the spark, you need a diagram to see if any thing has been chopped,

The 400 is a good step up, reliable , low mantainance, i think you"l find old 250"s are not as fast as most 125"s nowaday"s

The brass stub will come out,,, gentle twist with plyers ,,, its getting the hole size correct is a biggee, has to be tight fit,,,,

Yip " its either off a Moto xer, [ pre-mix] or a fake aftermarket carb, as they are blank, have you the old carb,? if so remove the brass stub,[ oil inlet] size a drill to suit [ not bigger ] and drill it thru to airway,,,

As sash says, and small ajustable spanner,[ incase mirrors slacken etc] the most used thing below the seat is visor wipe & spray,, -

Welcome nirrot" yeh its a task of patience, you have to ask yourself, how far do i go,,, is it ridable / show standard or what, coz ther a lot of money to be thrown at a project,,, and if its profit your after, the XS250 wasnt desirable in the1970"s , so can"t see that changing now,, great experience tho, the reward is getting it up and running ,,and riding down the sunny lanes ,

Only thing i have experienced " is spare set of gloves, if first set get soaked, its most uncomfortable , and put phone in a jiffy bagg, i"v found that out the hard way,, oh and plenty of stops, if the rear end gets sore, it never seems too recover , that day,,
