Would Ignition Coils for a Yamaha XS500 work on a XS360 ?. I've can't find any reliable info on substitute replacement.. It's tough finding new coils. Old Bike Barn have new ones but the secondary is only 7K vs. 9.5K original. Seems like less spark to me..

Good advice on the manuals,, I'm on it !! . I have a Yamaha XS360 with 2D supplement shop manual on the way. I just received the Clymer 1976-78 manual. A Haynes manual on CD. Also have a Parts manual on the way. If I don't learn something from all this, I'll go sit in the corner !!. Thanks again drewpy, your a good man to have around. I don't know about that handle you use, don't sound drewpy to me.

The power seems to be OK, good pick up thru the gears. No smoke. I think your right about doing it myself. I've worked on my own cars so I may as well get educated on the bike. At least a person knows what has been done or attempted untill it is right. Thanks for the reply drewpy !!!!

1977 Yamaha XS360D2. I've had the carbs cleaned and adjusted, new plugs and points, valves adjusted and timing set. On the first start of the day it takes a minimum of a dozen kicks to fire it up. I've tried Choke , No choke, even Prime. Doesn't seem to make any difference. After the first start , it starts and runs fine the rest of the day ???.Now I wonder if the local bike service guy knows what he is doing or actually did the work I paid for. I may have have to go talk to him with a tire iron..!.. Any suggestions sure will help..

Ha !!. Not that I know of, but who knows since 1977. I'm still discovering small repairs on this whiz bang I bought in June. It is a nice bike tho, just needs some tlc. Carbs are cleaned, timing set, replaced kick start spring. Runs like a Jack Rabbit!!

When the bike is on the center stand, should both wheels still be on the ground or can you tip the bike so front or rear wheels are off the ground ?.. I suspect my center stand is slightly squashed..

I need some touch up paint for my 1977 Yamaha XS3602D. I've searched the internet with no luck. Does anyone know how I can find the color code ?. It appears to be a medium Maroon color maybe metalic.

Thanks for the reply skyline. I'm brand new at this motorcycle thing. I bought a nice 1977 Yamaha XS360 with kick start only. It will arrive the 18th hopefully. I'm a bit apprehensive about some things I'll have to get used to, compared to my 125cc scoot . I wasn't aware you could still start them if the battery was dead. Rely on the magneto then, huh. OK thanks again..

Other than convenience of electric start, what are the pros and cons of the kick start ?. Is it as efficient for quick starts if all systems are proper ?. Less parts ?. More cussing ?. etc. Thanks..

Thanks for the reply drewpy, This is the XS3602D so I suppose it is standard frame. I still haven't found out what the 2D signifies. Probably an inter year change or some sort. My manual is on its way so maybe I'll find out when it arrives. This is my first motorcycle. I have a 125cc scoot that I use around town..
