I had the coil re wound at west country windings and it cost £90

ok guys the solution! tested the coils in the stator an the ignition coil had burnt out! sent it away to be repaired which was alot cheaper than buying a new one:) returned good as new an sparked once fitted:) rebuilt having secured all wires an put tank on a tried to start her an nothin:( check for spark nothin:( after sometime I located the cause as being a nick in one of the ignition wires inside the barrel which was intermittently shorting out the system. Now back up an running like a dream! cheers for the help guys

I checked the kill switch for continuity and its appears to function correctly how would I check to see if its grounded? im now having problems with the ignition conection so have unplugged an bypassed as per the Haynes but im not sure its correct as there seems a few variations! I hopefully have someone whos into electrics that can maybe have a luck so fingers crossed!

any other ideas would be great as im at a total loss! or detailed instructions on the stuff ive done just to b sure! your views on this count first bike im struggling here! really appreciate the input:)

hi I have tested the ignition coil checking the primary an secondary an both give the correct values one if these means connecting to the end of the lead so I presume its good?

Hi airhead ok I will try one but it wont change anything. If I take the power input off the coil and put it to earth I should see a spark but I dont? I have gone through all the switches twice an they all seem fine. source coils dont give me the readings specified but they are generating a voltage when I attempt to start it. all wires appear to test ok up to the cdi box etc relays removed an tested an all appear to be functioning.

ok update I hate to admit it but the bike has beat me! tested the source coils again as per the other section in the manual for the 2004 model and it doesnt give me the reading shown but im not 100% sure its that so am gonna have to take her to the local bike garage who are going to charge me £50 an hr to look at it an they have already warned me it could be days! if anyone can shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated?

I got the correct reading for the pulser coil on the 200 ohms setting so when I tested the source coil I started at that got nothing an moved it up and the meter just read 1. When connected with the third wire in the plug I got a reading of 503 which is the reading specified for the TZR in the Haynes manual and my source coils match the picture in the Haynes for the TZR not my DT. I am confused anymore detail in how to correctly identify faults would be really helpful?

The manual says to have meter on ohms x 100 scale is that the 2k setting?

ok here an update. All ground conections checked an appear fine. Haynes manual has arrived and I am working through the fault finding process. I have got as far as testing the pulser coil which gives me a resistance read of 284 ohms which appears correct with the spec, however the generator source coil is not giving me the reading specified infact it stays at one on the wires specified? The manual says that I should strip an check for broken wires however the ends of the wires are sealed into the coils so no access. Can anyone shed any light on how to test any further so I can be sure as I said before im not good with electrics! advice on where to source a new one prices etc would be appreciated.

Ok here's where I'm at. New battery fitted an still no spark I can't even get the input to the coil to spark if I put it to earth! Have linked the ignition switch out an still nothing. I appear to have something going to earth as when I turn the bike over and connect my meter from he frame back to the negative I get a couple of volts passing is this correct an if not what could be the cause. Still waiting on my haynes manual. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi the lead doesn't spark when I put it to earth. Also ive been told that the power to the coil if removed an put to earth should spark and it doesnt. I have found that there seems to be a broken wire to the ignition as when I move the wires the lights go off! How do I link out the ignition switch?

Hi sorry I'm really new to this. With the ignition on kill switch off the bike turns over but no spark.

Hi the kill switch appears to be working correctly allows the bike to fire in one position an not in the other?

Tried one from local garage but no joy. Have been advised if I put the power / input to coil near to earth it should really spark an I get nothing? Battery seems good 12.6v horn, lights an indicators all function as does the kill switch I'm really lost with it first bike an I'm not good on electrics:(

Hi I own a dt 125 re 2004 took it out for a ride running fine filled up and then it wont start! have taken spark plug out an its not sparking. Check plug on another bike an its fine. Could really do with some advice on where to start please.
