  1. Hi I had the same prob, I took off the carb, leaving the Y carb boot on the bike, but when it came to putting the carb, back on, it was impossible so I took the carb Y boot off the bike and put it on the carb, (make sure you tighten the retaining clip before re-attaching it, you won't be able to get to itwhen it's on the bike) then put the carb, back on the bike and reattach the Y boot on the cylinders, a bit of a fiddle but managed it. (don't forget to reattach the choke and throttle cables before attaching the carb,) If you do it this way push the carb up into the air intake boot then wiggle into place, and put the bolts back in, be very careful not to break or dislodge the 2 rubber O rings that are set into the Y boot metal face's that attache to the cylinders, if you have some high temp, gasket sealer you may want to put some on the face of the metal parts of the Y boot which attache to the cylinders. Let us know if it worked for you,.
  2. I think i will do that to be syre, might save a lot of time. Cheers
  3. Hi I have what looks like a French reg, doc, not sure as it is in french, but has info, like frame no, year of manufature etc, on it, which is the year 2000, this year ties up with the vin no, as this works out to the year 2000 (0000) also have a green card from Yamaha which has the reg of the bike and yearts 2000 - 2001 with the chaps name on it who bought it new in 2000. Thanks for any help offered getting this reg, here on a UK plate
  4. Hi Would you know what would be diff, when importing a EU bike from France that was first reg, in France in the year 2000. Thanks

My two pennies worth. If the leaking pipe is from the overflow to the tank then you have put too much fuel in the tank, If the leak is from the carb overflow pipe it would sound like you have a prob with the carb not shutting off the fuel when carb bowl is full. it could be the floats or fuel float needle, the floats rise and fall when fuel enters the carb bowl, if they have a hole or crack they will fill with fuel and not operate the fuel needle, the neddle lets fuel in and also stops the fuel entering the carb, bowl, when fuel is used from the bowl the floats lower and let the needle drop and let more fuel in till it reaches the correct level, then the floats rise and they push up the needle which shuts off the fuel again etc etc You need to make sure where the pipe that is leaking fuel connects to, then take it from there.

Hi Diaphram is new and sits fine, as is all the inside of carb, jets, slide, needle etc, the previous owner put a diff, carb, on it, as I have the old carb, in bits in a bag, but think they put a replacement carb, not new but changed the inside of it with new parts. Have ordered a new carb, and if that don't work I have no idea what it could be. My mate a mechanic had a look at it yesterday and came to the same conclusion as me, in that it can only be something to do with the carb, but thanks for your suggestion.

if you mean the air filter it was a new one put on by the garage of the previous owner and still looks like new and it has oil on it. I think I will go with a new carb, can get a proff, rebuilt carb for £60 so think this will be the easiest and sure way to know. Thanks for your replies

Hi Thanks for your reply. If you read through what I have tried you will see that it is not that simple, the latest, having after done everything inc, stripping and cleaning the carb 5 times, checking filters, new fuel, is as I have said, after removing the aircleaner if I block the air cleaner intake hole with my hand whilst it is ticking over and then I rev the bike as I remove my hand it revs up to the max for 5 seconds then drops back to the normal tickover, did this about a dozen times but if I don't have my hand over it as I rev, it reverts to not being able to rev, just cuts out when you try and rev it. I can't think that it is anything else other than a blockage in the carb somewhere as by blocking the aircleaner intake it is making the mix richer and also causing the carb to poss, suck harder and forcing the mix through the parcial blockage, what do you think? Thanks

Hi All the hoses are ok and I cleaned the filters when i draind the tank. As I said after removing the aircleaner if you block the air cleaner intake hole with my hand whilst it is ticking over and then reving the bike as I remove my hand and it revs up to the max for 5 seconds then drops back to the normal tickover, did this about a dozen times but if I don't have my hand over it and then removing it as I rev it still reverts to not being able to rev, just cuts out when you try and rev it. UPDATE after removing the aircleaner I have just tried blocking the air cleaner intake hole with my hand whilst it is ticking over and then reving the bike as I remove my hand and it revs up to the max for 5 seconds then drops back to the normal tickover, did this about a dozen times but if I don't have my hand over it and then removing it as I rev it still reverts to not being able to rev, just cuts out when you try and rev it. Now this tells me, I may be wrong, it is either a leak at the carb intake or carb manifold or blocked carb, I had it ticking over and sprayed carb cleaner at the carb intake and carb manifold but no increase in rev, so would think thats not the prob, I think it must still be a blocked carb somewhere, can't tink of anything else, any ideas ? Thanks

Hi Thanks for the suggestion but there are no chips, cracks etc to body or inside, I have diagram of carb and have stripped it and cleaned it 4 times with no result. All jets are clear and airways blow freely. after removing the aircleaner I have just tried blocking the air cleaner intake hole with my hand whilst it is ticking over and then reving the bike as I remove my hand and it revs up to the max for 5 seconds then drops back to the normal tickover, did this about a dozen times but it still reverts to not being able to rev, just cuts out when you try and rev it. Hi Does not have these screens on it, it has a pump to the carb, seems to be plenty of fuel getting to the carb, but I will look at the flow tomorrow, but as the prev, owner had the pump repaced and the carb, I doubt it is that. The garage gave up trying to get it going in the end, after changing the carb, (but the carb does not look brand new outside but all new inside) also changed the fuel pump, air filter, engine boot to carb, boot from carb, to air filter, throttle cable, choke cable, all new fuel hoses. If it's not the carb, or the pump I'm stumped, can't see it wouldbe electrical as have a good spark, both cylinders fire, both get hot, and it starts fine, just won't rev, Thanks

Hi The manifold Y connection is new, also the boot to the airbox, have tried running it with theairbox off and the overflow from crb, disconected, but still the same, ticks over but won'r rev, think I m going to buy a new carb, don't know what else o try now.
