You could try and reroute the cable but you have to make sure its free from snagging on both locks, best bet is a longer cable though. -

just had the same problem on my xs400 4 ltrs out, only holds 2.5,mine was the petrol tap vac, did an oil & filter change today will do another tomorrow just to be on the safe side. good luck with yours NSD

yes I fixed the pet tap and did an oil change then went for a short run, seems OK! I need to drop the oil again before I take her out, only had enough oil for 1 change if I can pick some up tomorrow I'll be out again. YaaHooo!
