20 degree up north,
I wanna do a mini tour of Scotland this summer if work permits, just a long weekend maybe, been wanting to do a full on biking holiday up there for years but something else always seems to come up and there's only so much the Mrs will put up with. Maybe next year, I would love to do that off road stuff again at motoscotland that was a brilliant couple of days and maybe arrange a rideout with Jimmy & blakkie and get further up north as I've only got as far as fort William in the past. I always get a bit envious when I see Jimmy & John's pics but don't think could handle the weather up there all year round.

400 rear brake
Hi misfit as above or cmsl I do have a spare but its used and postage wouldn't be cheap to USA if you can't find one for the maxim 400 try search for secca 400 or xs400 Dohc. Fowlers have them in stock only a few quid/ dollars

Thanks for trying anyway Alex and it gave us something new to moan about for a while anyway, I'm sure we all appreciate all the work that goes on behind the scenes really. The site seam's to be picking up again with lot's of new and old member's making an effort and with summer just round the corner looks like it'll be another good year on YOC

Frame numbers after powder coat
I'd just keep the photo under the seat and on my phone, if plod doesn't like it they have ways of reading it if they really wanted to. I'm sure any reasonable MOT guy would except your explanation you could always ask them first and see what they suggest. good luck

sort of bitter sweet
Spent most of yesterday evening dismantling my carbs you wouldn't believe what a job it is just to remove and get them back on the bike. After the usual removal of the tank & seat I need to take the battery the ICU & reg off, take off all the fixing bolts from the airbox then this is the good bit cos I used to struggle for over an hour to get the carbs in out until I realised I can get an extra inch space if I remove 2 bolts from the rear mudguard. So why am I telling you all this boring stuff! because as I reassembled it, I pushed one of the air box bolts in and hear the nut drop inside so l opened it up as it three screws I didn't need to touch to remove the fixing bolts and there it was a f#ckin rag, first of all I'm scratching my head thinking how the f#ck did I leave that in there, then I realized it had been sucked in from under the seat through the air intake. If only I had checked it first, I wouldn't have had to take the f#ckin carbs off! But then if the nut hadn't fell inside, around now I would be thinking I'll have to get them carbs off again, I've missed something
