Tommy next time instead of waisting a pack of zip ties use tie down straps, changing a tire the first time is hard for anyone but everyone should learn and own some tire irons. A trick to doing tubed tires is to start 180 from the valve and finnish at the valve, this way you can push the tube into the tire and not pinch it, never push the tire irons all the way down to the rim center so you dont pinch the tube. The first few times anyone I have ever tought how to do it struggled but after a few times it get easier.I have a tire machine at my disposal but it dosent do me any good when I am 200 miles from home.
  2. Could be that the pads are contaminated with oil or glazed, had a custormer who though because the brakes squeeled in the morning would be a good idea to spray them with wd 40 . Try changing the pads out with new or give them a rub down with some sand paper. a single disc should still put the power down to lift the rear wheel.Even the tiny little front brake on my wr will lift the back wheel. But you didn't say if the lever comes to the bar or much to go on, could be you just dont know how to ride yet?
  3. Also as you have never ridden the bike how do you know it was right before, a good engine builder would set it for you but best to check it.With the collection of bikes you have a timming light will come in handy and learning how to use it is not hard.
  4. Ok you don't seem to know much so. 1when you say it lost it compression what do you mean? all of a sudden or what? and what indicates "It clearly needs new rings" 2 rings come in sizes to match the bore, though new rings have more strength to seal. ( I won't bother with telling you about end gaping the rings yet) 3 you ned to have it measured to detrmin if it needs boreing. Posting a few good pictuers would help.

Haha or drink them I guess would still drive me nuts when in the middle of a project and needed a spark plug .Every bike I have ever owned since resitor plugs came to be I replaced them with Non resitor plugs,I dont care if richy rich in his bemmer radio goes buzz when I drive by
  6. If it starts again after cooling down you need to check the pick-up coil and ignition coil when hot right when it dies and if it passes then it might verry well be the CDI it is very rare that they go that way and up till reciently I though I was the only person who ever had that happen but Tommy has informed me that he too had it happen .So this will be the 3rd time if it is the problem I have seen/heard this happen. so pack some tools and a DVOM and go for a ride aroud home area and wait till it does it and check it right away,a can of compressed air can cool the cdi down quickly and if it starts then you found the problem. My rz would just up and die ,,waite a hour and bang it would run again, some times for days, other times it wouldn't start then after kicking it over 50x or more it would and run as if nothing was wrong. Report back with what you find.
  7. 1976 cb 360 t honda I think they forgot to put brakes on it from the factoy, horibal in the wet. It was my first road bike and I wanted the suzuki gt 250 2t ram air,but dad and the sales man talked me out of it because it was a 2t " you no thoes things blow up" bla bla.was happy to see it go. 2nd place a nsr 400 v3 honda look great and that was the only good part about the bike. FN thing was slow cramped riding position so embarresing to get blown away by my old rz 350 (yes my own bike I sold to buy that POS)

That would drive me nuts having to order and waite to do anything, any day but sunday I can have parts I need in hours or minutes unless it has to come direct from yamaha then its 3 days. A small thing like spark plugs 15 minutes and I would have new ones in my hand. I don't get it with the number of bikes on the road your side I would think there would be bike shops all over the place. What's the average waite?
  9. When your at NCK salvage try and get the right plug for the regulator and get rid of the individual connections. Most likely the regulator went first and full fielded the stator causeing the wires to get hot and melted the plug, have you had bulbs blow recently? is the battery low on fluid? if you can afford it grab a RR while your there you will need one sooner or later and if you drive all the way 2x it's going to cost almost that in gas as to buy one now. And if you get home and find you need it then your down for more time. I take it you allready checked to see if the one from the fz would fit? Keep the old one and have it rewound or do it yourself.

Well unless a guy like newmamirconsa'snitsler who might live in his own camp just soaked it in oil every wheh has no effect on the casing of the wires and the copper core within then nNo ER um YEs no yes...,,and well you know it rains so,,,er ,,um forget it. You got it this far now stop and think,,, small things!! You might have over looked.................................................! 95 % of the 400 time's you have looked at something you thought "well it is good /or should work " Is when it bights you in the ass, Knowing your bike and knowing you did it, is, all that gets you home sometimes
  11. That happens so many times ,people fail to notice that it will only fit 1 way and fully seat. Yamaha even put arrows and dots on some
  12. Not vac operated, the large rubber at the back with 4 holes in it will rotate, when you move the handel when they get old and block the fuel supply, so you need a new one. 3 dollar part

It's always the small shit that you over look glad you finnaly got it at least running. Could you even get it to slowy rev up if you only gave it a wee bit of throttle? I think I would be more tempted to try first, removing air filter and try it,then blocking air inlet. just to be sure it's not fuel related as you have the smaller carbs on it,and getting some non resistor plugs.

HAHA spend 3 weeks in a sauna before you go,then you will be used to the heat. We get some real hot and humid weeks here in SWO but nothing can prepair you for the desert. Cammel back for water full of ice, sleep all day and ride at night or go spring or fall, Fun trip but skip chiggao in the spring or fall they call it the windy city for a very good reason and when it starts raining it comes down in buckets and dosent stop, going through there in september was one of the scarriest ride of my life. A snow storm on ice would have been better. 6 lanes and I had verry little idea of what lane I was in for 3 hrs.And verry happy when I hit the border in Detroit Fully vented armor for the desert and full gear for the north. a better trip if you don't want to see the grand cannyon is down the east coast and Hit the dragons tail and through the mountans of Tennisse or the west coast Vancouver to LA. much better roads for biking the desert is straight as far as you can see for days
  15. Sounds more like the kick start shaft locating boss broke to me,so pull the clutch cover and see if the gear moves out when the kicker is depressed, The shaft is held and the spring is not broken. I have been running valvoline car oil in my bikes for 20+ years bandit and wr since first oil change,, never had a problem with clutch slip! And both bikes have the original clutch plates from 2001. So unless they put something in the oil on your side that they dont here that's not the problem. hardleys run plain old atf in the primary on all bikes but sporties and v rods.Though 20-50 is wrong should be 10-40 but if anything it's a thicker oil so should have more grip cold. If the main fuse keeps blowing then trace the wire to the ignition switch it's rubbed through to ground( earth) or after painting the bike you failed to clean the grounds up so they can actualy ground back to the battery through the frame. Normaly findin a fuse blowing problem is not that hard, just a matter of making sure all grounds are good and no wires pinched or rubed open to ground. so start with grounds and anything that is ignition feed.Like the wires to the starter seloniod

Ok drew you made me have to break out my old text book from school ,and so say the book you need 5+ volts from the trigger coil, possibly you dont have the gap correct But as Cynic said any coil shoud be able to make spark when the pos+ is removed, remove the spark plug and have the ht leed close to ground 3mm or so..

Feck me what a suborn unt, gereraly speaking most puter's work on a 5v reference signal for cam or crank sensors and looks for a small varrience in the voltage. As the pick up only has a very short time to gererate any voltage,it just a pulse magnetic generator, what is the voltage to the pick ups. And to recap everything including the wireing to the pick ups has been run seperatly right? And with that the yello/blue wire has been grounded and not grounded even thought the wireing diagram shows it grounded through the clutch saftey. New pick ups installed? Coils and TCI have been confirmed to work on another bike? Because I am out of ideas.
  18. Sorry cant help but you could try cross referencing part numbers
  19. +1 I am with airhead if the mixture screw is having no effect then the passage is blocked, get yourself a gallon of TYME carb cleaner strip and soak the carb over night. When you are looking at the carb from the air filter side make sure you can blow air through the small holes
  20. Just a side note to all of this most seal suppliers also sell bearings at a fraction of what bike suppliers sell them for, when i did the tranny bearings in the wr I got higher speed rated bearings. The bearing manufactuers also use the same codeing system for sizes so 6032 wheel bearing from any bearing company will be a direct fit and a simple request for a higher speed rating normaly they can fix you up.
  21. Check the flow of gas from the tank. .004 " for the intake and .006 for the exhaust valve
  22. Another funny one, went away camping for a weekend and on the sunday when I went to leave my bike wouldn't barely run then it stuck open throttle. I opend the air box to find mice had moved in and along with them they brought some yarn and not just a little bit! took me a hour to get it out of the carbs/ air box I can see the punch line "ollie what just happend I was napping nicely" but I think I would go more for the pinky and the brain approch to the toon, none the less you are keeping me in stiches. Your bike dosen't look bad at all, rode a few of them and very comfey riding position should do you well for the trip with the top box. Here we have showers at the truck stops anything like that avaible your side or will it be B&B/ camping trip?
  23. UJM bolt sizes are 4mm 6mm-8mm-10mm12mm 14mm 17 19 21 with a 1.25 pitch normaly,, if you can fit a wrench on the threaded area of the bolt then thats the size. And what ever size wrench fits the hex end the bolt is 2 smaller normaly, some bolt manufactures aftermarket make the hex head bigger by 1 mm.So where your original bolt had say a 12mm head the aftermarket will be 13 avoid useing any bolts like that as they are not as strong.
  24. Why do they not asmilate, and only pray to thier own government/law of sharia If you have ever read the book they must by sharia law kill all who do not follow to be good followers.? Take the time and read the book and you might be very suprised to find that... by thier own laws they must kill you if you are not of thier religion. Never read any other book of faith that says that, though I havent read them all I am sure...... yet. While I am sure most dont follow that rule still leaves me questioning thoes who might and how do I know witch one's to trust? I am of no religion been to church of many but dont follow any, I have a mind of my own no need for anyone telling me what to do.
  25. I regress 1000000 feet of bubble wrap sent share between all who need it. It appears to me that some of you like the government telling you what is right for you, Soon you wont be able to buy parts and fix your own bike because your not a licenced mechanic. And you shouldn't because you don't have the training! Noise dont worry if you don't have insurance to cover you if the swing arm/back wheel/brakes ect fails or falls off of that 900 I am sure the family will forgive you same if the eng seizes up and the owner get run over. He has a full licence and should know better after all he passed his test and takes such good care of his ride. I will never have that problem because I am a licenced mechanic, I will never have the problem of riding any bike I want , if my government dosent change the rules before my son can get his full licence neither will he. Dont bother with gear your hp laws will save you . Next will be well,,, 20 hp will do 70 mph and are more enviromently friendlier,,so all bikes over that are band ,,enjoy that law. And any 2t built before 2013 fucking pouliting POS's should be baned ......let the government RULE your life HI HITLER!
