    My first

Well done mate, another budding biker in the making. I know from experience, carrying one of your kids on the back certainly sharpens your awareness
  4. Fuck Off We already had a wummin do that and it fucked our Country
  5. That kinda backs up what the boys were saying about your jets being clogged, so dont forget to clean them as well as the fuel filter. Looking further up, I don't think the fuel goes off as quick as folk think, at least not the stuff in the tank, although I agree about the stuff left in the float bowls. My reasoning is this. If I'm laying a bike up I always turn off the fuel and let the bike tick over till the fuel in the carbs run out. Anytime I go to start the bikes they always start after a few kicks and this is the old fuel still left in the tank. I hadn't started my Bonnie from October through until March this year and that started and ran well after only a few turns
  6. I'll jump in here with my tuppence worth. 1981, 17 years of age I walked into wheeled machines in Glasgow and bought an xs250. I liked it for no other reason than I admired a bloke down the road from me who ran an xs1100. Anyway 17yrs old I set off outside this shop in the middle of an unfamiliar city, with no training whatsoever (my only bike experience was cutting about the fields on an xl125 and a ts100) and within a month I had had 3 near misses and 2 slow speed fall offs, all my fault. A few weeks later I hit a car and ended up in hospital and with 3 endorsements (remember them) on my licence. I learned pretty quick after that and have only had one accident since then, his fault this time. The 125, 12bhp law change came in the next summer and I had passed my test by then. Later on compulsory training came in and oh how I laughed. Shoot forward a few years and my oldest boy wanted a bike. I made sure he got every bit of training available and in his 4 years on a bike...50cc, 125 and now 535 he is a safe assured rider who could probably teach me a thing or two (like switching off indicators ) So the greater hp did not save me and the lack of training nearly killed me, whereas his route to bikes led to a safe and steady progression that have almost stopped me and her indoors from worrying our selves to death every time he goes out on his bike. As a biker, a parent and an all round good egg, I see no problems with a steady progression through power
  7. Yip The Hondamatic My mate owned a 400 Dream which I thought looked ok, but couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. I briefly owned a 4/4 which came immediately after my disastrous xs250, so I thought it was great, except in the wet cos it kept shorting out. Once I junked the metal clad plug caps it ran great wet or dry

    FFS

Fitted new front tyre and tube a month or so ago. Yesterday, the best day of our year up here so far, and flat tyre. Looked at it last night pumped it up and left it. This morning, another cracker, and flat as fek again. In from work tonight, changed the valve and this time I 'painted' some soapy liquid around the valve and stem. BIG bluddy bubbles coming from the base of the valve stem..........so need to get the thing off and pick up another new tube
  9. Safe riding mate, and have fun
  10. Maybe not. My sons virago got restricted and the mechanic just printed off the rolling road / dyno readings and signed it off on a piece of headed notepaper. The Insurance accepted it with no issues, in fact they stated that they didn't need the paperwork, as if something happened and the bike wasn't restricted as claimed, it would have nullified the policy
  11. Welcome to the nuthouse, mate. I rode an xs1100 from 1991 to 1999. Great bike bike (rubber frame excepted) and took me everywhere I wanted to go.
  12. Just seen this. Welcome to the forum vanessa. Advice...keep an all round vision, look far ahead, try to read hazards and listen to the advice your instructor gives you.....Safe bike riding
  13. As above mate, can't help with parts, but it's a very nice looking bike you have, hope it gets sorted toute suite. Great views as well
  14. Welcome mate, I 've got a wee 535 virago in the shed, oh and a few Slade records as well, so welcome again
  15. Well thats good news then Tommo. Is there no elekronikery peeples among your customers, mate. Someone with the correct equipment and knowledge would be able to test it
  16. The only issue is if the inside of the unit is encapsulated in resin, although I'm led to believe it can be dissolved away I think elektronikery folks are not too keen to work on that type
  17. Welcome to the forum, and with that motto, you'll fit right in
  18. Tell any interested party £100 and you'll throw in your Yamaha Owners Club Introductory Post (unused)
  19. Great Idea, and we could maybe organise a TShirt with the route printed on it
  20. I had a bike like that but it was an auld Triumph and they were designed to leak oil . But none of my modern (Brit or Jap) bikes leaked in the hot weather. I agree its a fob off

    bad vibes

It most definitely would be, tho the 9 years on this thread is pretty good as well eh
  22. I also have that set, and lasso and a few others I think. We should contact Halfords and try to negotiate a YOC discount
  23. I'm imagining if they were so full of 'crud and surface rust' then a good chrome finish was not important, if not then why not just clean them all up, get any pin holes welded up and paint with UHT paint
  24. Looks excellent mate. Mind plenty of pictures and a wee write up when you return
  25. Good point, well made
