  2. new bike?, that sounds nice
  3. Re;- Not easier to ride just easier to go fast on. Its why i love the tdr. Its light, handles exquisitely and makes anything bigger seem numb and flat. As well as being able to ride it at 9 10ths of my ability for a massive buzz without actually being that illegal. my only big bike was a Suzuki GT750 'kettle' it was top heavy, back brake was poor, heavy to manoeuvre and had an upright riding position so you would tend to get blown off the back as the rider was like a sail in the wind...but it did sit on the road well, felt stable and grounded once bowling along.. this is a picture of my friend riding it (I bought the bike off him late0 on taking advice, does anybody remember the CAT code? One of those highway ditties, it stands for 'Concentrate, anticipate, Tolerate' quite a good watchword phrase for life in general as well as the road
  4. a shed is more than four walls, a floor and a roof - it's a sepatate world without the unpleasantness of reality, reality is over-rated my friend has, 'i'm in my own little world, but its ok, they know me here' written on a roof beam in his shed, a quote from a book i think.
  5. hehe - agree always liked them, especially the more affordable early models, ie the 1200cc but fuel consumption and weight are off putting although considering their size they are not especially heavy, lighter than the XJ900 for example.
  6. It's just that i read a report of the thread on the output shaft that the drive sprocket is fixed to not having a great deal of thread on it, if the forward cog comes loose and mashes the thread it can mean another shaft. yamaha did come up with a larger nut but the shaft design didn't change with the carb models apparently, i found this a bit off putting. Doesn't sound like you guys had that issue thankfully..
  7. good vids twincle - liked the sound of the bike on the first
  8. slice : - http://youtu.be/jwC4wRkS2sE Dt: thanks
  9. thanx dt - i haven't got that facility to change username myself unfortunately also thanks noise - of course your bike will be up and running so you mustn't change your username
  10. this brings back my nightmare with bennetts - switching seemed to mean cancelling and starting afresh with the old policy being virtually worthless, ie hardly any residual value despite substantial time to run, i've now got a dual policy but if i buy or sell i shall do it around renewal time to avoid the hassle and cost of mid term changes.
  11. tad self indulgent this... when i joined i couldn't think of anything except bender and that seemed wrong so i used my proper name, however some ideas have popped up, what do you think, perhaps applying any knowledge from my feeble posts:- this is the short list two sheds bollinger capt mainwaring arthur lowe wreckless eric divster binman surface agent or just leave it as:- iandouglas not that i have the necessary membership rights to change my username, i'd have to get help from an administrator the first two or leaving it as it is are my preferences at present
  12. doesn't the uk fit into texas two and a half times - must be nice with less congested roads i tried to trace my family back once, there was a branch from the states a few generations back, chicago i think, the other side was from rural suffolk, my mrs's family seem to hale from a mix of lreland and wales so i guess we're aliens here in oxfordshire
  13. re: Bennetts have always been the most expensive. They claimed they were saving me £100 by increasing my renewal fee by £380!!! i got some kind of introductory discount with bennetts to start off with, can't recall whether it was through a bike club or magazine, and i'm caught with them another year, don't ask, complications with my policy and ease with which to reclaim my no-claims they deferred, too complicated to explain even if i could remember all the detail of various switches but thereafer i'll move on and try lee (bikesure) for a guote as suggested above.
  14. cheers matey, a little comfort stop as it were, ahem,,,flies and such on the visor you know
  15. thank you, much appreciated
  16. it's more for racing maybe touring style bikes I'd say
  17. thanks guys, yes I had set a limit, that part was Ok ta, two mins seems a bit early if you don't mind me saying as it may leave the gate open to be gazumped, 8 secs sounds kind of right, i left it to 4 and lost out.Maybe I should do both? don't know..
  18. you serious? it's a little trick the police/IAM/rospa use, at first it feels wrong, unnatural and not intuitive, pushing against the turn, difficult to explain, cranks the bike over, sharpens the turn - takes a bit of getting used to, I wondered what the logic was at first.
  19. can anybody help please? just missed a pair of second hand boots because i was too slow to make/confirm a last seconds bid - how late do you leave it/or is it better to shove a bid in and risk somebody beating you in the last seconds? I'm new to this stuff but I've seen something else and don't want to mess up second time round..
  20. delibrately engaging in countersteering makes the bike lean/turn more than it would otherwise, at least that's what i find, so i generally save making that kind of effort for when a bend turns out to be sharper than i anticipated.
