  3. I'm just about to start my 3rd brew. The first one (a Pilsner) was a bit flat, but I don't think I primed it enough before bottling it. The second brew - an Australian Pale Ale - has got plenty of life in it. Hopefully I've got it sussed now! I'll find out when the next brew is ready! FYI, I bought a starter kit, and invested in some 1 litre bottles. I find 2 litre bottles a bit too much, especially as my brews come out between 9 and 11 % abv!
  4. I recently had a Virago 750 that ran intermittently on one cylinder. I replaced the plugs with NGK Iridium plugs, and never had a problem after that. Give it a try - it's worth a go for the sake of the cost of a couple of plugs.
  5. Hiya Mark. Welcome from another TDM owner!!
  6. Well, she's finally up and running. Alarm/immobiliser removed, exhaust and new battery fitted. New fuel in, and started almost straight away, having not run for over a year! I need to get some rubber under the silencer exhaust brackets, and do final alignments on the pipes, but she's ready to roll. I definitely need to get smaller indicators now though, so they miss the silencers!! I know the setup won't be to everyone's liking, but I like it, as it's different!!
  7. I think that's an interesting question. Looking back at bikes that are now considered classics, one of the main things that stands out is performance. For example, the Brough Superior SS100 (incidentally, that's one bike that would be in my garage, if money was no object!!) was the fact that each bike was guaranteed to exceed 100mph, (not bad for 1924!) and in fact, set a world record of 130.6mph. These bikes now fetch £200k plus! With that in mind, I would guess maybe a mint Blackbird or Busa would be good to keep in a velvet lined box for the next 50+ years! Either that or a Harley, as in 50 years' time there won't be many left - they will all have rattled themselves to pieces or rusted away!!
  8. I took custom to the extreme with my 535: Motor, forks and wheels are about all that's left as standard!!

    The new beast

    TDM850 - work in progress
  10. To be honest, I came across the effect by accident when painting a previous bike. Basically, I just wiped the existing paintwork down with a dry cloth, then sprayed straight over it with GraviGuard stone chip paint. As it dries, it separates and cracks. I then just sprayed over it with primer and then matt black top coat.
  11. Well that's the beast sprayed in her new livery. I went with something a little different - leather effect! I haven't seen any other bikes sprayed like this - it's definitely a one off original!! A couple of close ups of the paint effect: The photos don't do it full justice - I reckon it looks better in the flesh.
  12. Well, it's been a while since I've been on here. But I have acquired a new project bike, picked up at a very VERY reasonable price! It was a runner, but hasn't been started for a while. Needs an exhaust system, as there isn't one on it at all! New battery also required, and a screen. Might even treat it to some fresh fuel!!! Then I'll see if it starts and runs. Not sure quite what I'll do to it. Maybe just a fresh coat of paint in my fave colour! But I'm always open to suggestions as to what I can or should do with it!
  13. Well, I have just aquired (for the 3rd time!) a 1979 XS750SE. I first bought it in 1995 in original form, but hated the original mini ape type bars, so they were the first to go. It has been through a fair few images, but now looks like this: Well, it did when I last saw it! The plan is to make it into a cafe racer style ratter! It's most of the way there, and I really don't have the time or inclination to polish everything up to make a good cafe racer! But I will see how the mood takes me as I begin the project!
  14. It was the Scotland/Wales rugby International weekend in Edinburgh and as the crowds made their way down Princes Street towards Murrayfield, a Rottweiler suddenly lunged towards an eight year old Scottish lass, with its jaws wide open ready to attack. The crowd nearby gasped in horror but, quick as a flash, a man in red jumped out of the crowd, grabbed the dog by the throat and throttled it. As the dead dog lay there, and the crowd cheered in admiration, a journalist from the Glasgow Herald who had witnessed the heroic deed, went up to the man and said, "That was brilliant, I can see the headline now - 'Welsh Rugby Fan Saves Young Girl From Certain Death'." The man replied, "No you've got it wrong. I'm not here for the rugby!" "Don't worry" said the journalist, "I can see the headline now - 'Welshman Saves Girl From Jaws Of Rottweiler'." The man replied, "No you're wrong again. I'm not Welsh; I'm from London." The journalist said, "Don't worry; I can see the headline now - 'English Bastard Strangles Family Pet'....................."
