    My Bobber project

Lol thats not much help as standard Jap could be any thing! the XVS 125 is 7/8 yet the XVS 650 is 1"! I would say that your 125 would be 7/8 but just to make sure id buy your self one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-46610-Dual-Reading-Digital-Vernier/dp/B001EZ5QUO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1327649743&sr=8-5 and get your bars mesured properly then go from there. It wont be too much drama if you buy 1" and not 7/8 as you can always buy a new set of risers that will fit to your bike and your new bars. (you may need new risers any way so that the new bars clear your tank )

Ok, no worries, have you made sure that they will fit your bike? ie that they are either 1" thick or 7/8 thick? Its not a drama if they aint drilled n grooved just that if there not then you cant hid wires in them lol.
  12. I do like that! well done Vic on a nice find! well a 2.5 hour drive there could turn into a 5 hour ride home lol

    My Bobber project

Not a drama Mate hopefully you will get them! they are a good style of bar as your not lent over too much and if you get a set of pull back risers you could even have a nice lazy sit up possion. Are the ones your bidding on drilled and grooved?

  15. Just to help you out in your bobber argument. A bobber is a custom motorcycle that usually has had the front fender removed, the rear fender "bobbed" or made smaller, and all superfluous parts removed to make it lighter. The bobber was the earliest simple and stripped down custom motorcycle hand-built by individuals with mechanical skills and often part of the early biker clubs scene before there were any such thing as choppers. It is a style of custom motorcycle which took shape in the 1940s and 50s, generally thought to have been started by returning WW II American servicemen working on ex-military motorcycles and inspired by lighter European motorcycles they had seen and ridden. The bikes reflected their owners and were often homemade but today there are many companies that create such vehicles. The style has also influenced motorcycle manufacturers such as Harley-Davidson. The style continues to be favored by some to this day. Hybrid styles have emerged such as as a "bobber chopper" and retro-bobber Bobbers are related to choppers in that they represent a minimalistic approach where the motorcycle is stripped of parts or accessories not needed but bobbers generally retain the characteristics of the stock frame. The principal difference between a bobber and chopper is that bobbers are typically built around unmodified frames. Chopper frames are often cut and welded into shape. Bobbers also often lack most of the chopper's aesthetic characteristics such as chromed parts and elongated forks. Thus, bobbers are fairly easy to create from stock motorcycles and are generally hand built. The term chopper started to be used from the late 1960s onwards, for motorcycles whose frames had been customized to have a greater angle at which the front suspension protruded with smaller fuel tanks and tall handlebars called ape hangers. For many owners, the difference between bobbers and choppers doesn't come down to what's on the motorcycle but what isn't on it and whether it has a short front end or a long front end, stretched suspension defining it as a chopper. Whereas customized motorcycles can be extremely expensive, bobber builders tend to adopt an economical approach involving old, second hand, recycled parts and hand machined items redolent of the period before the mass-market motorcycle accessory industry had developed. Bobbers are considered to be the first streetfighter style motorcycle.
  16. considering its an easy task to do i will give this out for free with out an intro from your self. 1 bolt at the rear of the seat, (10mm or 12mm) rotate anti clock wise a few times till bolt comes off. Lift rear of the seat up then slide back words off of the bike. prob the most easiest job to do on the bike bar putting petrol in it. Now please go to new members part of the site n introduce your self as there will not be any more free information given out.

Dont get dis-heartened on not passing your test mate! its all apart of the journey! keep going and keep calm your do it next time! I actually got the bars off of Amazon! lol they where £70 and are drilled and grooved for the cables to go through but that job will be next christmas time job, i just wanna get out and ride her now, but will sort all the little bits out first. Yer i know what your saying mate, i keep looking at it and thinking it needs doing, i may have a look at it this week if im given permission from the missus to tinker lol
  20. Hi Mark and welcome to the club! Id first start with changing front or rear sprokets either a few teeth less = more acceleration or add more teeth = more top end speed but less acceleration. I will def go for the "pass ya test" option and just us those L plates as ammo to get you motivated. Im not clued up on these R125's so take my comments with a bit of salt but i "think" these 125s arn't that good to be tuned as they are a new bike and they may have a few ristrictors to stop you mucking about with them......(again thats a "i think") If your still not happy with the speed but want a 125 that goes like stink, then its an Aprilia 125! those things do 100mph and dont hang around on the lights too long BUT the engines can blow quite quick. Just get ye test done mate and all will be gravy baby!
  21. Sissy bar lock? is this the little thing that you use to lock your helmet too? (you motorbike helmet not your prince elbert!) lol If so i have two of them.........(at least one! not sure if i took one off the 650 but def did on my 125)
