new here but old biker
Hi again Stevie Bike's good, reliable and easy to work on, although I get the garage to do anything inside the engine (haven't got a workshop here). French motorbikes don't need MOT's so I have found one or two things which wouldn't pass in England. Like the bike though and I've come back to two wheels after a number of years without. BeePee

the afterlife
There is always the one about the rabbit who loved toasted sandwiches. In fact one day he had a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich, followed by a ham one and then jam and peanut butter one. That night he just keeled over and died. Of what you ask? Why mixinmatoasties of course! (Rabbit disease mixamatosis reached epidemic proportions in the 60's and was particularly bad in East Anglia) BeePee

first off
It doesn't take much! Going back to 1981. Apart from slamming into the front wing of a car (he pulled out infront of me) in my relative youth my pride was most hurt when, a bit like you, I was conscious of it beng down to zero but the roads were dry and this little village road lead me over two small river bridges. I suddenly found I was following my XS750 on my backside (sore). The very cold air had frozen on the road surface of one of the bridges because the low temperature had penetrated through from underneath. I picked me and my bike up, bent the odd lever back into use and thought to worry about the paint and fairings in the daylight tomorrow when, yes you could have written the script, the salting lorry passed through!!!!!! Just a couple of minutes later and perhaps........ BeePee

Stunt Riding
So you think that's good heh? I get wheelspin just riding my bike to the shed in the garden. Is it all down to my talent or do you think the wet grass plays a teeny little part? Good show though. Bee Pee

Hi bikersteve. Not sure about the novice tag you've given yourself. Plenty of bikes I see. Age might be the problem. Me, I'm not that young to go through so many, even in seven years! Good riding! BeePee

i have a new form of transport
I can't believe a 'simple' little four wheeler can generate such emotion. I could understand an electric organ (Yamaha) but why must I find non related subjects here on YOC? Go somewhere else please an leave us to two wheels! BeePee

What first 'proper' bike???
Hi Bulldog. Glad to see I'm not the only Biking Brit over here. Beaune's a long way for a ride out, more a summer holiday from Brittany! Only thing over here is you have to give 2 months notice to quit your insurance company so you can't just change with a 'phone call like you can in England. I was impressed though with ncd counting for both car and bike. I'm with different companies too. BeePee
-
What first 'proper' bike???
I agree with Tomo and chrisw. My main point is that you can only ride or drive one vehicle at a time and if you benefit from a ncd over a long period for bike or car then it makes no difference. If you then have a claim it affects both car and bike policies. I think that's what you have in England as you should declare any recent claims to existing companies and certainly when starting new cover. (Honest people, anyway) BeePee

What first 'proper' bike???
The fact that you personally declare some thing is not sufficient over here. If you've held motor insurance you have to ask your last company for an authorised statement of your previous bonus, or otherwise, and only the right form of words from them will do to carry your bonus on to another company. Surely only one of many good moves for 'Identification', at least against fraud? It exists here and no-one complains........ Not a political statement, just common sense, I think. BeePee

What first 'proper' bike???
I've been out of GB for more than a decade, at least for every day purposes sake, and was surprised to see Tomo saying 'Full no claims on the car'. When I left Old Blighty I could only get maximum 10% ncd for a bike. Here (France) is different as your car insurance discount is the same for a bike. Hence my 0.51 coefficient for the car (all but 50% off the full premium rate) applies for my four or two wheels. Have Insurance companies become more 'car user' friendly to bikeres over there? BeePee

Say Hello
Hi Mervin. I've a Redon area telephone directory. I'd look up your mate for you only you have to know which commune (town or village) the person lives in as it's not a straight alphabetical directory! BeePee

Say Hello
Hi again you guys! Thanks for the welcome. I live in Brittany, near Redon. Came over in 1994 without my last set of two wheels, Suzy GT 550. Biking history: Lambretta scooters(!?) Suzy T200, T350, GT550, YAMAHA GS 750, Honda 125 (!?) Suzy GS 400, GT 550 and another GT550 very special model. Then, Family and France, and here we are now, the XJ600N. BeePee
