  1. I think he means crankshaft. How much is second user motor? also will a bigger lump if in, If so a good opportunity? As for shells and grinding havnt had it done for years so cant help.
  2. You can easily make one out of wood or steel they just work by leverage.
  3. As I said " I never take the word of any shop/stealer on how bad some parts are unless they used to sell the product" this my point of view. So step back take breather as its just a forum.
  4. Why don't you buy a new helmet and have painted with a retro finished.
  5. +1 Yeah I was thinking the same. I never take the word of any shop/stealer on how bad some parts are unless they used to sell the product as its just sales tactics to buy what they have.
  6. I use a static wheel balancer and have done for almost 40 years and wouldn't be without it as you cannot trust tyre fitters to do it correctly the amount of times I here "These modern tyres don't need balancing any more" crap the tyre maybe better made than 10 years ago but they are not perfect and when balancing you are doing the whole wheel not just the tyre and the wheel its self are not balanced. Beadbreakers are cheap however I use my feet to get them off the rim.
  7. I havnt noticed any mention of Betor until me so can I ask where your getting your info from?
  8. Since it hasn't been mentioned, check your stanchions if they have pits in them new seals will not make any difference. The thick black stuff dont no unless some used crude oil.
  9. Do they OK! I suppose if never need to use the customer service is good thing in two ways then. As for shock there is probably loads that will fit length wise but its getting the spring load correct is the key.
  10. This means they will tailor the shock spring to your weight / load requirements ie. if you are 7 stone a light rate spring will be needed. I personally wouldn't buy shocks that use 60's tech, the damping doesn't take long to blow, a few FJR riders fitted them due to price and they all blew tand are not upto the job. imo. Try Betor these have been around for years and are cheap and cheerful and I havnt heard any bad reports todate.
  11. It wouldn't be rubber mounted as the beam would scatter and totally useless. Motorcycle bulbs are manufactured to a higher standard to withstand the vibration thats why bike bulbs cost more than normal car bulbs, you can fit a car bulb into a bike but unless you have very good suspension and smooth motor it wont last as long.
  12. There not very successful on bikes as the vibration kills them, I was going to fit some on my FJR as 7 of my friends had them however, everyone's bulbs blew and they were all different makes I didnt bother. I 120w high beam anyway so probably wouldn't see any difference.
  13. The carbs worth more only to someone that wants a standard bike as for price don't really know they were married to the special 2R9 barrels which had slightly different porting. When it comes to after market cans they tend to come with the header welded on I'm not sure but I think a set of 400 will fit a 250 but will hang 5-6mm lower but I wouldnt think 250's will fit a 400 as too tight. There is a chap on ACRD that makes spannies that attach to original headers and keep the centrestand again I cant think of his name!! The front end is a common upgrade as a lot of RD parts are interchangeable yours is probably the best combination. I have a set of 34mm forks slightly pitted with axle but not sure if I have the yokes if you want to standardise your bike. Those calipers C/D are better than the pivot style one fitted to the E/F models. I think your bike is ex race and he sold if with a 250 lump as 400 motors are hard to come across. I would do what Merv said make it into a 250, I personally would start to fix all the normal bits like clean/paint/plastic coat the chassis while finding all the 400 bits to convert. My 400C I've had since Sept 2012 and all I have done is sorted it a bit just to get it MOTed as I have to go through the Nova system which came in April this year then I realised I could have Novaed it without an MOT Doh! anyway all I have been doing is looking for parts to tidy it up. Note: Nova doesnt apply to you! Now dont take this wrong DT but I would be looking for a doner bike or use yours a the doner as the cost is going to be mad high even if your going make a 400 Cafe or Special.
  14. Doesnt look to bad close up just a lot of cleaning. You'll quite few bits to get it to standard. Those carbs are rare dont get suckered out of them they will work with any 400 motor with a bit of jetting, unless a D pair and money is flowing. Note 400 headers are longer than 250 as the 400 barrels are taller so watch that too and later one's are wider at the can end. Your wheels are off a later E/F RD which are lighter and better. Which also means your forks should be 35mm where D forks I think were 34mm. The 2 into 1 will rob you of power but its unusual though.
  15. You'll find the underslung front peg bracket on eBay or try Moist or RDJames on the ACRD site you'll need the the 2 mounting brackets and suspension rubbers as well as there quite pricey new. Funny you mentioning rearsets I'm making some at the moment for my 400C mainly because I'm bored. The race shift would be interesting as you say in the wet. Have you anymore photos of the bike?
  16. They will be put away for another 10 years soon.
  17. 4 or 5 grand owch it doesn't cost that much even if its complete restoration unless you are paying someone else to do it. I don't have a lot of 400C bits. I have 1 pair of NOS foot rest rubbers I'll PM you as I don't want to be inundated with PM's There is also a chap selling off his RD/LC stuff as he is moving I know he has a A/C frame and LC pipes also a TZ seat unit, few chassis & electrical bits. Basically I know quite a few people who are not on the ACRD site with stuff.
  18. A lot of Yamaha's have a gearbox whine especially the shaft drive models.
  19. DT if I can help with parts I will, I'm more of a 350 man but have a few extra 400C bits.
  20. We all like saving classic's but if you can save 2 for price of 1 thats got to be the only way..
  21. Only a fool will throw money at a bike that you would never get back. There's a good British 400C with matching number for sale with MOT for £2100 on the ACRD site and I know of another one that going for £1500 that's a road runner. DT would have to spend a lot of cash to put it back to a decent 400D.
