I don't know anything about your bike but was simply curious as to why your doing this. Would it not be easier and cheaper to buy a 200cc bike instead of uprating your present bike? Don't get me wrong I'm all in favour of peeps working on their bikes and making them better but if you just want to go faster would it not make sense to just buy something bigger? Sorry to deviate from your thread just curious.
  2. YOC for me Lassy, thanks. Thinking about it I might have put weight on since this started? Should we go back and start again?????????

Just rebuilt my Suzuki and that would not start either, 4 new plugs at £48 all dead when under pressure, sparked a treat out of the head but nothing when fitted.
  4. Don't think so, your best bet is to try a bike shop we don't know much about push bikes on here although some do ride them, it might be a concept bike? that your thinking about or even an electric bike that some of the manufacturers sometimes do for publicity. Someone else on here might be able to help but don't hold your breath waiting for a reply.
  5. Hi and welcome to the YOC, nice to hear your back on the road and the XVS is a nice little bike, as for the workshop manual you can get PDF files off of the net but we can't tell you where as they are copyrighted and that's not a place any of us want to go to (sorry about that) quite a few owners on here so if you have questions then ask and hope for the best.

Shaun, on here a while ago we had the same discussion about Reg plate design and the consensus was that if you play around with your plate the bobbies can yank your bike off the road, if you look up the sizes for a legal plate on the net and buy that then your golden but if you deviate from that then they can make your life miserable, most bobbies are unsure about bike regs but if you come across the one in a hundred that know about them your up shit creek. Your local motor factors is a good place to get plates made up and they know the rules and regs so that would be my advice as to where to go to get a new one made up. Hope some of that helps? Good luck mate.

Yep as Tasky says best thing I ever did joining the FJ club loads of info and loads of spares at really good prices, some that you won't find else where, at £17 it's money well spent. Wish you luck in finding a bike you like.
  8. I'm good with it lassy, thanks mate for taking the time and trouble to sort it out.
  9. Oh sorry Tasky thought that was the bike (silly me!!) paint what you can and wrap what you can't as I said before have you seen the "THINGS" on ebay that get daft money? When I sold my neighbours rusty wreck he got 2K ( I think?) for it and it was held together with cobwebs.

I'm with Tasky on this "target lock" he had loads of time to crank it over on that left hander and if that nasty man in his posh car had stayed at home he would have been fine.

Ha Ha Ha you little liar you !!!! Good luck when she finds out, she will say your dinners in the dog and your bed is made up next to your bike.
  12. Perhaps you could insist that the buyer only gets to see it from a distance, maybe invest in some binoculars, but to be honest it looks ok in the photo, your not one of these anal types are you? Who insist that every mark and scratch must be explained. Just put it up for sale and be honest about the odd bit of wear and then your covered. Or better yet take it out the day before they come round and do some grass tracking with it, I mean have you seen some of the things on EBAY that get sold?

Oh bad luck mate !! If your lucky might be something simple and easy to fix, but with water and oil coming out I have to say it sound like a strip down and time to get the big hammers out.
  14. Tasky, I always think that unless your going to keep it forever then standard is best, the next buyer might not like your paint scheme and that can knock the price back whereas if it's standard then they can always paint it the colour they want, my XJ is the colours I wanted and if and when I come to sell it I don't expect to get the full price unless the new buyer has the same tastes as me even though it has 28 coats of paint on it. As long as it's clean and serviced most folks will be happy that they have a new bike to ride. Just my thoughts on it and good luck selling it mate.

Yeah have to agree must be a dead short somewhere unless you have cooked the new battery with a car charger.

Well Nev I like your shopping list even I your wife doesn't, but to be honest your going to need to win the lottery to afford all of that or buy SWMBO a nice new EXPENSIVE frock !!!

I think they should make a noise like a tank then they will keep out of the bloody road or maybe an IPHONE ringtone so they stop to answer it or just maybe they should "LOOK WHERE YOU FUCKING GOING"
  19. Not going to bother as I don't know what it is, and could care less, and Tommy will win it anyway!!!
  20. Welcome to the YOC mate, always nice to meet new folks and your intro was fun to read, brought a tear to my eye, trouble is if I want my old bike back I'm going to have to visit a museum, this getting old lark is a pain.
  21. As above but beware of the bloody retaining clips that hold the separate parts of the inner panels together they can be a bit difficult to undo as they go into metal clips that are held on by bits of plastic and they are easy to snap off. If it's tight then try to do it up first before you undo it and work it off backwards and forwards, if it suddenly goes loose then you have broken it off, an easy fix once its off as the plastic is really thick and will glue and melt back together. I have most of my bikes fairing in the spare room plus 2 spare sets of gauges and there are 10 bulbs most across the top and 3 close to the bottom, someone on here the other day was changing their bulbs and they used LED replacements on their cluster and it looked really good, might be worth thinking about if your going to change 1 bulb then change them all, as said above.

Well done Nev, sounds lovely and you must be well chuffed. Don't care it's a Suzi it's a bike and your most welcome to be here mate.
  23. Shaun, what about one of those long bottle brushes that you get from your local home brew shop, they have long handles and stiff bristles, might be just what your looking for.
  24. Did my test in 1968 I was 16 and knew it all, yeah right !!, passed as the instructor didn't want to get wet and he watched me from the tea room as I went round the block, I bought the tea, then we had a bun and I rode home, it's a wonder I didn't die as the only training I had was riding round a mates field at the weekends when I was 14 till I was old enough to ride legally. I think it cost about £4 to take your test back then.
  25. Noise, as I said before if you come up the M5 then I can meet you as well. tho to be honest I have been looking at the A road routes rather than the M/way as my bike is 34 years old and I will not thrash it 200 miles up the m/way.
