  1. I've had the XJ750 Fj1200 and now the FJR1300 and they all clunk, so do Hondas & Suzukis unless your really clever with timing the gear change, best thing I can say is to try to gauge the gear change to the engine speed, maybe even blip the throttle when changing up or down to prevent the selector from banging against the gear shift. as for it being stiff to change gears it should not be stiff but firm.

    No Doubt about it

Gods gunsight, you have been warned
  3. The 400 and 750 Maxim are built on the same frame, so anything that fits the 750 should fit the 400. As above and INTRO in new members section helps. PS the XJ and Maxim are 2 different bikes, some parts will fit (engine and running gear) will fit but frame types are different so don't buy XJ parts for your bikes frame. XJ750 Maxim
  4. If it works out of the socket then probably yes it's the neutral light socket that's at fault, can you change it ? Or you could just rewire it externally, one wire up the side and one soldered to the bottom.
  5. A job well done Paul, you must be well chuffed. Now all we need is the video of it taking off.
  6. Wemoto have them http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/xv_250_s_virago/94/exhaust/ Bit expensive but at least you know they are in the UK.
  7. Beautiful Bippo, well done you, made me laugh as well you must have looked a sight with that head net on but better than the alternative. Are you sure you were in Scotland? as the sun is shining and there's not a pub in sight.
  8. 1-4T means it's for a four stroke engine, Castrol is a good oil. look up oilman on here, he works for OPIE oils and usually does a good deal on price and delivery. Just make sure you ALWAYS buy motorcycle oil never buy or use car oil as the additives in it will f**k you clutch plates up.
  9. Well done Paul, another step towards your dream machine.
  10. Hi Glen, 10/40 semi synthetic. Don't buy the cheapest stuff good oil really does make a difference. You don't have to buy Yamalube either any good named oil will fit the bill.
  11. Noise were still talking polishing here are we?
  12. We've all been there dear girl, as long as you don't have to get carried away from the crash then you just feel a twit!
  13. This any good? Otherwise just Google "yamaha dt 125 electrical wiring diagram"
  14. Oh well done you, always get a thrill when an old bike pops and farts back into life.
  15. Might be a the valve stem seals are a bit tired Dutch? how about the head gasket? is the oil just dripping down or is it tracking down from the cam cover gasket? As we know they are brilliant to work on, easy to get at and simple to fix ( not like the friggin FJR) , start from the top and see if you can spot the source of the oil. As Tasky says you should use more oil in the Scottoiler than the engine.
  16. Hi Shank, bit of a short way of telling someone what your problem is mate, I would say that it's near impossible to diagnose your problem from your question, it's like saying I have this piece of string and it's this long !! You need to describe what you have done to the bike and EXACTLY where the oil is coming from, photos/videos help here, Try again with more details so at least we can visualise what is happening.

    punctres

Swarfega, no salt and it's bio-degradable, won't rot your tyres and safe to use on the chrome.
  18. Yeah that's a "I always know where I am it's the place I'm looking for that's lost" moment.
  19. Sweet bike Jay, well done on passing your test to, just remember that now when you twist the throttle the world goes into blur mode.
  20. Can't see why you would want one but if you can build it and it makes you happy!
  21. A lot of bikes run a 110/130 setup, it's only if you go stupid size jumps that it cocks up the steering tho any change from stock will affect the ride cos it's built with the standard sizes in mind not the ones your thinking of, if you over cook it then drop back a size, cost you a set of wheels and tyres but if they are new(ish) then you can usually get some or all your money back. 100vs110 Or this perhaps?
  22. Just be careful Katie, a little bit at a time, don't go mad, if you think that's enough STOP don't be tempted to "oh a bit more won't hurt" cos it will.
  23. To the YOC, love the intro, as above get the op, laser surgery is supposed to be better than it used to be and only a few hundred quid to get it done, we all have a mid-life crisis mine was do I take the 1300 out or the 750?
