  1. Ok I have got my new toys and tried to upload photos but will not allow me to post them, Say's "you are not allowed to use that image extension on this forum" could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please. Ok as you can see I have managed to do it, don't ask me how! as I just kept clicking on stuff till it appeared. This technology stuff will be the death of me. It appears that they are "SLINGSHOT 16 VALVE" versions whatever that means, mean looking little buggers whatever they are.
  2. According to the Maintenance specs on your bike it is 0.5mm wear ie 4mm-new and at 3.5mm they need changing, as you say it is a small amount but it's across 2 discs so actually 1.00mm. not much else you can do I'm afraid other then fit replacement ones, will something else fit from another bike that might be a cheaper option? Should not say that really but 2 disc at about £50 each is a lot to shell out. Best I can offer you others might have a better idea. Got this info from www.fzrarchives.com/fzr600 it's a PDF file.
  3. First KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! then soap and water, you could try and dodge them I suppose but you would look like some one with St vitas dance or the drummer off of the Muppets.
  4. Good point DT I was actually going to do this anyway because even though I have a receipt it would be a kindness to the last owner, he can have them back as long as he pays me what I paid, not trying to rob anybody here just seems that after 2 years of no interest and being told they were being sold to recoup owed money he has had every chance to keep them. Just have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.
  5. Hi Jeff, It's usual to do an INTRO "new members section" BEFORE you ask a question , just polite to introduce yourself before asking strangers for information, we are NOT grumpy about it but like to get to know you before some will answer your question. It's not an uncommon mistake for new people to make so if you would be so kind as to do an INTRO we would be much obliged. As to your actual question, it sounds like you starter motor brushes are shot, easy to do once you have the motor out, also check that the ARMATURE is not worn (copper rotating bit that the brushes rest on) if it is worn then you can either replace the whole motor or take it to your local engineering works and they should be able to recut the faces for you, will not be the cheapest fix, other wise get a second hand motor from Ebay or such and put new brushes in it before you install it. Hope that helps? PS Welcome to the YOC, always nice to have new folks join in and help others out.
  6. HELLO!!! is anyone there? What's happening Grouch we are all waiting for the day when you have this thing fixed and running again. Been ages since you last said anything about how it's going, have you taken a hammer to it in frustration?

    It's ALIVE

Pleased to hear that it is running, just the usual OLD BIKE problems to sort out which means sorting out other peoples horrible fixes or bodges, just keep plugging away once it's running it's all down hill.
  8. Any MOOOOOOVEMENT yet?
  9. My guess is the same as Blackhat, over filled or blowing back through breather.
  10. Got to talk to SWMBO but me and a mate would be interested, he can keep Bippo company as he has a Thunderbird They can ride at the back!!! (sorry Bips)
  11. It's one of those "looks good at a distance bikes" but when you get close things aren't what they seem, shame really as it is a nice bike but as Drewpy says just bits that wear out anyway so not a major rebuild, seems like the last owner did a repair NOT replace on the parts so leaving the next poor sod who owns it YOU! the fun of turning it around. Should be an easy fix though and you get to know your bike really well which believe it or not is a GOOD thing. Just plod through the nasty bits and you will have a fine bike, keep you eye on the prize!!!
  12. Welcome to the YOC, NOW THAT'S AN INTRO!!!!
  13. I think that should be "WE want to stay longer next year" tommy. Looks like you got yourself a convoy.
  14. Hi Tommy, It seems that after 28 DAYS the workshop has final say on the disposal of the machines, once the original owner has been informed that they need to be removed, the last contact with him was over a month ago and he said he would turn up and pay what was owed but never came in or phoned to say he wanted them, the owner of the workshop can then dispose of them any way he wishes to get back what was owed for work done (apparently it's on the workshop invoice in small print). So as all the i's have been dotted and the t's crossed it's legal to dispose of them at what ever the market value might be. He wanted £50 each for them and to be honest I nearly snatched his hand off when he said that. Going to be delivered tomorrow some time so expect some photos when I get my hands on them. PS it's NOT a silly question mate I had the same thought but was assured that it's all cosher! Plus I got an INVOICE to say they were mine.
  15. Thanks Cynic, I have thoughts of moding them sort of street racer type thing, all the parts are there and just need to get the beggers running, one has been crumpled at the front but the guy at the shop has agreed to straighten the forks gratis as I am taking them both, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop as I am NEVER this lucky!!! PS I will not ask Grouch to help as he say's that he is going to fix his own bike and by the time he actually has it fixed I will be to old to ride! PPS My wife said "Oh good you will have something to do this winter" So if you know what happened to my real wife let me know as this one seems to be a ringer (that's RINGER OK!)
  16. That's a nice looking seat Drewps but is it as uncomfortable as it looks? Bit like sitting on a plank or do you have a FAT ARSE?

    Happy birthday Merv have fun.
  18. Ok I just got back from the MOT shop after my second attempt at getting the Maxim road legal, it PASSED thank God so now it is off with it's new owner, that left me with a bit of a gap in the garage which was just calling out for another winter 2013 project, got talking to the owner of the shop and he said he had a Suzuki 400 bandit in the back that had been abandoned by it's owner 2 years ago, been sat there waiting for him to come back and pay what it owes for work done, long story short I now have 2 of them for £110 inc delivery , seems that the original owner had bought a second one for spare parts that the shop could use to get the original one running. Not in the best of condition and don't run but fer f**k's sake I could not turn the deal down. So my only problem now is I know sod all about Suzuki's. If you know anyone who knows anything about these things please let me know as I have a feeling that I might need some guidance as to what goes where, cos the original one has had the loom hacked off and generally been fiddled with by the usual spanner monkey who knows sod all about how the bike works or anything electrical or mechanical. Quite pleased with myself actually as even the bit's (if I break them) will be worth more than I paid for them.
  19. As Welshy said "inner peace" GOOD LUCK, you will do fine don't worry.
  20. And me!! I have this on my bucket list.
  21. No Prob it's just how it works on here all welcome just nice if they say Hi first. Hope someone will have a fix for your problem, ride safe.
  22. Noise DON'T encourage him!!!
  23. FJR 1300 Has to be for me, not a million dollar bike but it's what I want and the wife (bless her) won't let me have one say's I have to get rid of the other one first, NOT HAPPENING!!!
  24. You should be able to get a picture up but I THINK you need to use photo bucket or some thing like that, if you wait around for a while someone will come along and tell you how it works. If not then ask in the BAR section and you will get an answer from one of the moderators.
