UPS dropped off my parts today & I got right to work reassembling.... No more fuel worries with a new petcock assembly .....& the motor breathes much better now with new manifolds & a clean carb..... My oldest boy told me the finished product resembles one of these ..... See for yourself..... Outside of the black paint showing the imperfections of the fuel tank a bit more The next item on the agenda is a pair of Black fork gators to keep 'em from getting too mucky & wearing out the seals So now the old Beast looks like a true Urban Assault Vehicle....& not some Orange/Yellow Bavarian BoatAnchor like Pete's Beemer Also...does anyone know where I can get a hold of a coupla Rocket Launchers for cheap? That oughta make those Bluddy Cagers get the Hell outta the way!

To further promote the Internet RideOut theme that was previously posted by AndyRose I'll kick things off with mine that...... ....Went well with some lad's from AdvRider. I led the way to this previous fav destination of mine... As you can see, I was representing the Vintage DualSport genre' for the day ... After climbing a bit in elevation above the resevoir, We then took a break here..... I was well impressed with the KTM.......Bluddy Fast Beast it was! Starting to look a bit on the mucky side (Fair Warning Pete )..... Probably from going through a few of these ..... Finally @ home tucked in after a nice bath .... Couldn't have asked for better weather for this time of year Almost forgot!....What good is a ride report towards Mt. Hood without a pic of it? .....

More speed might be achieved through a sprocket change Iain. PM Mozzy....he's the local DT wizard.

to the forum DouGaL I used to ride an '83 750 Maxim for about a 4+yr. stint.... But I can't figure out how your exhaust pipes are getting filled up with gas? Could it be that your fuel petcock is leaking into the carbs when the bike is not in use?...... In other words....being a vacuum driven fuel valve, does it feed fuel when the bike is shut off? I recall having leakage probs with mine before some CrackHead stole it! Your fuel petcock might need to be repleced if this is the scenario......they can be taken apart & cleaned but always seem to cause probs with a bike of this age......much easier to replace it for just piece of mind. Have a look here..... MotoGrid They supply factory parts for a far better price than most dealers....I've had great luck with 'em.

On this side of the pond....that age thing would be the 1st indicator for targeted insurance pricing When you get to be an Old Fart like myself....the insurance bill comes & gets paid without even batting an eye.....I pay only $120 a year ....but that's also on a 24yr/old bike

Not entirely sure with the 750 .....but if it's anything like some of the other XS & XJ''s from that era, It's one of the 1st thing's to go into the frame during a complete reassembly. Gotta have the carbs out.....& possibly the rear wheel off for easier accessability. Learned that one the hard way with my 550 Seca after 13 years of use & 3 frame-up rebuilds

The YamaHead now has a bluddy H*nda in his collection! Just got through sorting this out for my little lad today..... Gotta stash it @ my folk's house on Monday as my lad's coming home from a 2 week vacation to Hawaii & California on Tuesday. This'll be his 9th Birthday pressie in May. This poor bike was rode hard & put away wet ......absolutely filthy!.....tore it down to the frame, cleaned everything.....then installed New Brakes, cables, chain & sprockets (still waiting for the primary). It's even got a aftermarket cam in it & had the flywheel lightened a bit.... I picked it up for only $400 & put another $100 in parts into it ..... Still cheaper than I spent on the PW50 that got stolen right outta my driveway last summer

My brother's done the very same thing to his Hybrid Bultaco.....Frontera frame.....Pursang motor Mainly did it as the headstock was shagged.....so he welded on a new one & then stamped the VIN numbers to match.

My wife & I saw a similar exhibition like this once......with a Father & Son duo riding XR100's. If the riders get close enough to each other during this routine, the globe starts to shake like a washing machine outta balance during the spin cycle! Globe of Death

A little pointer: Maybe spray down those rubber "bungs" with Armour-All before reassembly.... Makes the rubber last longer & that tank will slide on quite nicely.

Check your connections...especially @ the sending unit located somewhere on the sump. Maybe then trace the wiring clear back up to the light on the dash. Other than that...not really sure what it might be.
