Steering Lock
Knowing that Virago's have a pretty low center of gravity..... I highly doubt the stability will be compromised by using the steering lock or NOT

R6 2002 2nd gear fix HELP
Never heard of this prob with an R6 as of yet Older FJ1100's had this prob with 2nd gear.......but you never really heard about it as most riders would spend the majority of thier time in the top 2 gears. I wonder if there's been any recalls on this scenario? From the symptoms you described, it definitely sounds like the 2nd gear cluster is your culprit Sometimes it just ends up being a pair of bent shift forks.......but since your probs all seem to gravitate around the 2nd gear cog.....more than likely that's where the problem lies. It will require motor removal to repair........& it sure wouldn't hurt to have a good service manual as well. Best of Luck with it

I'm new need help
1st of all.... to the forum Gipp If you can get your hands on a complete spare transmission, you'd be miles ahead. Switching out that 1st gear cog would more than likely be a whole lot easier that swapping the whole gearbox.

Interesting one that is Andy I'd tell the Old Timer to sign up......Being a former DT owner, I'd do my best to steer the chap in the right direction. I've also heard of others getting pointed here from the Yamaha Classic site before......maybe through a link?

What do I lube?
Take the throttle cable off @ the grip & hold it in a close to vertical position as possible.....then use silicone spray down in between the cable & the housing (small opening ) in attempt to get as much silicone as possible down the cable housing. It'll make a huge difference on how it feels.
