Tend to agree with Shed Hermit here...... Bad Pick-Up coils have a notorious habit of going flat after they've been "brought up to temp". Had the same symptoms with my XT....replaced the pick-up coil & have had NO probs since.

Definitely sounds like the chain could be your culprit.

I'd be willing to bet that those UFO plastics WILL fit your WR..... I've got the same plastics on my XT550......they fit well & seem pretty durable. & a tip to keeping 'em lookin' new......use this after each washing.....

NO DOUBT!.......Only way to fly! I HATE withdrawls from Riding!.......I turn into a cantankerous Ogre if I'm off my bike for more than 2 weeks Sure glad I've got TWO bikes ready for duty @ any given time now.
-
NO fairings.......FAT tires.......& a set of Renthals....just for starters.

Wheeew!.... For a minute there I was thinkin' you had Elvira up for sale!

Nice addition to the 2-wheel collection there Goff ....... Even IF it is a bluddy H*nda ......

Can you imagine how much that POS would creak going into corners?

Some financial matters came together this last week...& I must say that I've got a great wife 'cuz she gave me enough cash to add this to my 2-Wheel collection..... I'd been watching this on CraigsList for the past 3 months.....& actually test rode it 2 weeks ago...hit it off right away with the seller....who's an avid Pedal Mechanic (bicycles). So I rang him up on Saturday & got him to take $1800 plus my trusty old Gitane..... It's an '88 XT600 with less than 9k on the clock....so plenty of life left in her... For me, it's a perfect starting platform for a SuperMoto project.... best part is the most expensive parts (wheels & tires) are already done.... Hell, the seat, wheels & tires are worth the $1800 alone. Took it out today for a romp down the twisties....& then down to the river... I'm pretty stoked that my 14th Yamaha is a White & Red one again!.....had 2 others in the past (550 Seca & RD400) & this one Rails better than both of them put together! It's a bit heavier than my 550 but brakes & steers alot better. The 1 downfall is only a 2 gal. tank, but like alot of other things, that'll be sorted in time.

You'd be surprised what kind of noises you'll hear from the valvetrain IF the oil needs changing. Cheap reassurance if anything.
-
Damn straight!.......use 'em for traction I say.

Works EVERYTIME Drew

Get back on the 'Goose & work off this spare tire around my middle .... Outside of that..... I'm with OG on this one..... RIDE ALOT MORE!!

DumbSh*t punk-ass kid! I bet his old man was just a bit upset over that. Well, @ least it didn't happen to a Yamaha.
-
Depending on WHERE the hole is.......a standard puncture repair kit should do the job nicely. I recently did this to my XT with great results. Word of advice......buy yourself a pair of these......well worth the money.

Easy to clean with very minimal fly-off
-
As a suggestion....you could post an inquiry HERE Loads of XT500 knowledge to be found.

The older I get, the more I realize that it's NOT how fast you can go......but How you go fast.
