Noooo OG, I never for one minute thought it was a 'piss off people' impact, or I would have suggested riding at 15mph, just like the lorry drivers do, when they protest at fuel tax hikes, I meant more as a 'fookin wow' impact at normal riding speeds. as a fair few A roads go through towns and cities.
  2. How long you been married? with every bike purchase, over say 40 quid, should also be a box of ferrero rochet, for those that should be obeyed, if they turn the peace offering down mind, and give you a dose of deaf and dumb sandwiches, go into your den, and scoff the lot, but as loudly as you can, its a win win situation,
  3. Tell ya, get one of those plastic greenhouses from Argos, a stripped down DT goes into one nicely, Weimi I think it was got one the other day and the 4ft deep one is now half price at 27 quid, plus doubles up nicely as a spray booth. Just a 'taut

Personally I would have thought bikers would have made more of an impact on A roads compared to motorways, think about it 70-80 bikers on a mainly single A road compared to 100 ish on a 3 lane motorway, nes pas?

If ya think about it, bikers in Dorset and Cornwall, full licence and learners alike, don't have motorways, so they'll be riding together on the A30, and A38 all together no doubt, but for the rest of the country there are plenty of meet ups on A roads, as below A1 and A1M A1/A19 Seaton Burn Services northbound Washington Services northbound Durham services, northbound Scotch Corner Newark 'Friendly Farmer' services A1/A46/A17 junction A1 Truck Stop, Colsterworth NG33 5JN Brampton Hut A1M northbound A11 A11/A1065 Barton Mills, Mildenhall A12 8 Ball diner, Rivenhall, A12 northbound BP, Boreham Interchange A12 northbound Tesco, Copdock, A12 A127 Porky's Diner eastbound Stawberry fields/ Tesco, Southend A14 Thrapston Services Brampton Hut A1/A14 A14/A143 , St Saviours Interchange, Bury St Edmunds IP32 7JS j57 Golden Hind, Nacton rd, Ipswich A20 Crittal Corner Services eastbound, Sidcup A24 Sandhill Lane, Washington, W. 6. Thanks lads for the comments, it's been a real labour of love i'll tell ya, I'd originally thought I'd have it back on the road for the end of July, how wrong was I, I do hope though, that it's inspired people to have a go at doing a renovation project, it CAN be done on a shoestring budget, but just takes a little bit longer, that's all, luckily for me I had a bike to sell, so I could finance the project, so ploughed that into mine. Due to all the projects that are being undertaken in the forum, theres more than enough info on how to go about doing stuff, and just posting questions in threads will have lads more than willing to help, I also look forward to seeing how others get their bikes looking, the before and after pics are great to see, as these old bikes deserve more than to become rusting old field bikes. Still having idling issues with mine, but hopefully that should be sorted out this weekend, then I can get her back on the road, oh aye, and have still got to change the front wheel to an 18" so it will be a supermoto, as I need the bike to be more for road riding, than off road enduro, but that can be done at leisure, although I will put some pics up when I have done it. My next project is an old 82 xt 125j, now that is in a mess, but hopefully it'll end up just like it came out the factory , it's important that I try keeping it as standard as possible as its number 7 off the off the production line, and more than likely I'll need to be needing help with that too, with it being a 4 stroke, and haven't needed to work on one of them, in nigh on over 30 years. Cheers Nev
  7. Weimi, that is looking spot on mate, you've got it looking sweet, and a credit to all the hard work thats gone into it, proving that with a bit of knowledge, patience, determination, and a small money tree, it's possible to bring an old classic back to life, well done mate, oh and concerning the speedo, you're not fooling me, I know you want to bang that Vapour Digital speedo on
  8. Cheers OG, you've been a big help along the way mate, now then, whaddya know about old school xt125's
  9. Well I finally got it all finished, bar some little bits and bobs, (idling needs sorting, touching up with paint here and there), but rode it up the driveway, into the garage. From here in March. To here now. URL=http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/402/img0252al.jpg/]

    sad day today :(

I was lucky enough to be around when the Gold Wing first came out, it wer'nt all fairing and king and queen seat, as they are today, as nice as they are. but give me one of these anyday, a mate of mine bought one brand new in 79, banged a sidecar on it and rode for about 6 months on 'L' plates, till he passed his test,( you could in those days,) his was exactly the same as the one in the pic, but black and gold, now apparently its in bits in boxes somewhere near Thetford.
  12. Hi, and welcome Andy, you bagged yourself a right bargain with that SR250, look forward to seeing the project.
  13. Geo, are you getting any electrics? horn, indicator? brakes? if not check fuse, or seeing as how you've had the petrol tank off, check the female terminal on the coil that sits under the tank hasn't been accidently pulled off, Nev p.s check sidestand is up too, or bike won't start
  14. Dave, you're a star mate, I do have a Haynes, but it's a bugger to see any clear photos, illustrations are o.k, but as it's an online manual, all details have been lost in the photocopying, even now looking at that 13.7 pic, I can't make it out at all. but to be honest, not fitting it inside the guide, the hose does come pretty close to the shock spring, so aye, common sense prevailing here, I'll go with the inside the wire guide, cheers mate.

Now to add insult to injury, I've just read that Brussels are also trying to get through legislation, where insulin using type 1 diabetics will be made to give up their driving licences, of both car and bike, thank fook it doesn't include type 2 non insulin users, YET!!!! Somebody please make this stop, it's all getting too silly.

A real lovely job ya done there Drewps, btw those projector headlights you have there, do you reckon they can be fitted onto the bottom yokes on my DT,under my main headlight? and if so, where from? how much and whats the wattage? as they look just what I'm after for the dark country roads we have round these parts. Cheers Nev
  17. Put my new HEL brake hoses on yesterday, now I realise that when fitting the brake hose on to the rear master cylinder, you must loop it over, and back on to itself, bit like a scorpion tail, so to speak, instead of running straight to the caliper, but I've noticed a stiff wire guide sat underneath the battery holder plastic, at the rear, in the shape of a square about 1 1/2", is this a guide for the brake hose? I only ask as it's a pig to bleed at the best of times, and if I go ahead and fit it wrong then have to re-bleed I'll not be too chuffed, has anybody any idea about this? as I can't see owt in the manual regarding the fitting. Cheers ta Nev
  18. Dave, you've done an absolutely top job with that engine mate, I won't ask how you got it like that, it's easy enough to see, hard bloody graft is how, I think your main problem is going to be keeping it like that, may I suggest you invest in some ACF-50 spray (ebay) it will put a protective barrier against oxidisation spots in the aluminium, really good stuff, good for other parts too, such as rubber parts and switch gear paintwork, glad the wiring diagram was of some help too,
  19. This is on a relevent bike, even starts it by hand,
  20. My lad and his mates the same with their kickstart mechanisms on their scooters, the endless times they've buggered the up the kickstart cogs and stripped the teeth from the half moons, for being to harsh with them. Methinks they need to watch one of those old, black and white Pathe film productions, on "correct methods of engaging the kickstart mechanism" as shown by Mr Jeremy Barrington- Smythe.DFC.DSM,KFC

As the title says more EU bureaucracy gone mad, this may affect almost every single biker in here. Some links for 25th demo http://www.mag-uk.or...gnsdetail/a6883 http://www.ridersarevoters.org/ http://www.motorcycl...topic-id=419262 http://www.halfway-h...iewtopic&t=1654 http://www.adventure...-september.html http://www.arrse.co....our-rights.html http://www.scooterin...ber-2011-at-1pm http://forum.oldskoo...um=1314079627/5 Read the article taken from a forum Pay attention to the fact that all they want you to do is go for ride on Sept 25 Sorry about the length of the topic but it gives the reasons why! Attention to number 7and 4 THIS AFFECTS ALL OF US, PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO ITEMS 6 AND 7 Further to the meeting I've just had with the chairman of the committee of EU Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) I now have a better idea of what we are looking at as the Anti Tampering Regulation moves through the EU legislative process. Amendments are on the table now and being discussed, like giving an opt out for special 'one-off' builders, (but only the British and the Finns want that) and also making ABS compulsory on mopeds too (Germans want that- or rather the German ABS industry wants that). When IMCO finally vote on this (4/5 or 6th Oct) it then goes to Parliament. As this is a 'Framework Regulation' once passed it does not have to be transposed into Law in Individual Member States, as it will happen automatically. So, as far as the 25th September Motorway Mayhem day goes, the 10 very real European issues that we still need to draw attention to are: 1- The Anti tampering Regulation: Specifically Article 18 which wants to stop all modifications to complete power train, from airbox to controlling the rear tyre profile. 2- Compulsory ABS. If we can't stop this, we must get a switch so that we have an option in difficult conditions where ABS doesn't function well. 3- Automatic headlights on- passing the blame for poor observation on to us. 4- OBD. On Board Diagnostics so that easy roadside checks can be made of our emissions and so that constant readouts of engine performance can be obtained. Expensive, complicated and with the threat, rather like a tacho, of identifying past riding style... 5- RMI. Repair and Maintenance Information. Rather than keeping it hidden and available for huge expense, there is a chance that manufacturers will be forced to provide ECU codes etc for a fee. What that fee is remains to be seen. 6- The very worrying article 52: "If systems, components or seperate technical units on a list in a delegated act to this regulation, have a dual use, for vehicles intended exclusively for racing on roads and for vehicles intended for use on public roads, they may not be sold or offered for sale to consumers" So if your K&N filter can fit a CBR race bike and a CBR road bike, the best way to police that, is to make it illegal to sell the filter in Europe . The Delegated Acts are the most scarey thing, as they are the lists and details drawn up by the unelected and we won't get to see what they are including until after the Regulation has been passed! 7- In solidarity with the French we will be drawing attention to their recent gov proposal to ban all bikes over 7 years old from an urban area and to make the wearing of day-glo/ reflective clothing compulsory. 8- Full sleeve day-glo clothing for riders and passengers has been proposed in the Irish Parliament too. 9- All these issues lead to the same thing, that we must take the blame for the incompetence of other road users. And while the emergency stop has been removed as a compulsory element of the car driving test, we are jumping through hoops with ill judged UK interpretation of EU licencing directives. 10- Another EU licencing Directive is on its way (3DLD) to step the bike licencing system still further and the DfT and DSA still haven't sorted even the consultation process, even though it is meant to be in law by now and enacted January 2013. Plans for the day (25th Sept) are that all over the country riders meet at midday in M-way services (or suitable similar if there's no motorway to hand) and at exactly 13.00 groups of riders set off to ride perfectly legally at a sedate Sunday 45/50mph on the country's motorway network. Perhaps over bridges, near the confluence of other motorways etc. The MAG and other websites will carry details of all the meeting places. It's the simultaneous element that carries the weight, as even 50 bikes together will cause disruption, but happening everywhere across the country will be powerful and will have the traffic alerts discussing it. They'll be primed. Riders will disperse as rapidly as they appeared, but after riding for a few junctions at below the speed the trucks use, our impact should be felt. No need for marshalls , no one can go the wrong way. No hot engines, no speeches, ride as far as you wish One media contact number The threat that we can do it again on a different day of the week will be established. Our MEPs will be preparing to rubber stamp another regulation put before them. This time they may stop to read it. Now I appreciate that this may be way too many words for your available space, but anything will be appreciated. If you could let the odd '25th September' appear subliminally throughout the magazine... -- Kind regards Paddy Tyson Campaigns Co-ordinator MAG ( UK ) - Motorcycle Action Group
  22. Tell ya what Weimi, you've done a cracking job mate, you've certainly done more with the bike than you first thought able, Your bikes a shining example of the more you put into something, the more you get back out of it, a well deserved pat on the back, mate, just wish you'd sort out those diddy pics, so we can all see it proper loik.
