  1. i found that even with winter gloves and thurmal gloves my hands froze to the point where cold water burned! and that was just going to work (20min drive) id recomend kepping them in a safe place for when you decide to use them.
  2. ok the generator is under the left hand engine casing, all the connectors for the bike are in the headlamp so take that off , and check every plug (undoo it then look for any green powder, clean and put back together)
  3. a reg/rect is a set of diodes that controlls the voltage comming from the stator, esentially they are all the same! the reg/rect has 5 wiers (3 of one colour and 2 diferant colours) so by rights you could fit one from another bike, you would need to chop the conector on the xvs (taking a note of what wires go where and re-wire the new connector too it. iv done it to my bike which has a honda cbr 125 engine but uses the xvs dragstar reg/rect! id recomend getting hold of the right part and only start chopping things as a last resort!
  4. yeah defo sounds like the reg/rect has gone! would cause an unstable power flow in the bike which possibly could cause a misfire. and was defo the reason why ur last battery went. its located behind the battery ......i think.... its either in the battery box or in the bit between the battery box and engine, either way i know its connected to the frame with a bolt
  5. then you could go turbo, get a kent cam on there, ect ect and crack it up to 200+ bhp........there was a nice blue 300+bhp mini a while ago that used the A series engine but is was tuned to the dogs and had a secret custom cam and mahoooosive turbo
  6. its not a bolt on jobbie needs a special kit and some block work ....oh and its a bmw k`100 cylender head, think its 16 valve which gives the engine loads of power gain!
  7. oooo i like proper mini's! im guessin its a 1275cc with sports pack and twin h2 / webber carbs?? nice easy cars to work on ...........try and find a bmw k1000 cylender head to slap on it and have loads of fun!

well to be honest iv got the idea of doing my test then getting started on my next project lol thinking of building a chopper/bobber with a 600cc gsxr engine (something like my little 125 xvs bobber just bigger) or a trike .....been looking at doing something a little special . but im happy at being restricted at 33bhp for 2 years if it saves me a few bob (might just get the 150cc kit for the bobber) but ivgot a flat tire at the mo so cant go down to the local training centre and ask some questions..... when i took my cbt last time the lad who was teaching me (and i only say lad cause he was younger than me) said i was ready to do my test but iv not had the funds till recently so im seriously considering it .

hi all im seriously thinking about getting rid of my L plates but need some advice on what would be best for me. i dunno what to go for.... direct acces? normal test? a week packege? ........ iv been riding for 7 years on cbt's and im 24, got 6 years no claims and dont realy want to get a bike bigger than 600cc at the mo. iv got no "bad habits" as they say, and i wouldnt mind doing it as cheep as possible......so im thinking 1 or 2 lesons to get used to the bike then go for it. but i dont want to be wasting my money. what would you recomend? cheers..

there all from the local hardware store (wilkos as its known in the uk). but there is a little trick you could try, when you have cleaned all the rust/gunk off the spokes, either give them a coat of clear spray paint, or petroleum jelly, this should stop the moisture and salt getting to the metal.

iv painted mine....and they have lasted quite well. i used hamerite special metal primer (with a brush) then sanded each one down a touch (just to smooth them out) then exhaust paint in black with a brush. then clear coat (cheepo rattle can) then finaly some back to black bumper wax/polish to finish them off so far they have lasted 8 months and are doing well took about a week to do, but i dont have any rust to remove or chrome to polish

its located behind the battery ....you need to take both covers off and take the battery out to get to it it should be a quick job ul see when you get there

hi and welcome to the forum have you put a hello in the noob section? if not then id recommend you do are you keeping the bike for a while? cause there is no point customizing it just to sell it on a couple of years later. (it costs to modify it, then you wont be able to sell it for a good price) as for tips/ideas ..... ........get rid of the seat for something smaller! chop the rear fender mount off and put a close fit fender on there. dont get rid of your bars just tilt them forward till they point to the sky. that will give you a good start iv made one myself ....and its probably mine you have seen (look for xvs bober 125 in the search bar to find my posts) here is a couple of pics for you to get inspiration from and dont forget the point of a bobber is to be bare minimal so less is more!

think you might be mistaken my friend the oil drain plug is situated under the bike and the hole leads to the oil sump. if your sat on the bike it would be forward right, (but on the bottom of the engine) cant think of the top of my head which bolt your referring too could you give me more details like which side of the engine (as your sat on the bike) or even which cover to take off? there are quite a few bolts that have oil wells or that "poke" into the sump but are not actually a oil drain plug.....
  24. like this .......iv done the colour to the monster energy design.
  25. oh ....lol ok then try and go as slow as you can (under 5 mph) using clutch and throttle control (without putting your feet down!) comes in handy in traffic and shows good control on your cbt, then try turning as slow as you can (more tricky then it sounds) then get it up to 2nd or 3rd then slow down to a crawl then repeat the whole lot till u can do it all without putting your feet down. try an emergency stop .......mark a point in the dirt (thats where you will do the emergency stop) ......you need to be able to get to 30/35mph b4 u hit the mark. then apply both the brakes (but not the clutch) till you stop but try and pull the clutch in at the last minute so the bike dont stall.... your trying to hit at least 30mph and slam on the brakes without locking up the wheels and if you dont pull your clutch in till the very last minute, your back wheel wont lock up! then all i can say is just piss about with it and get your confidence up, oh dont forget your life savers lol
